Thirty mothers, attending either a paediatric clinic at a Government hospital or a private paediatrician's surgery, both in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, South East India, were questioned about their infant feeding practices. A sample of milk from their child's bottle was requested and subsequently analysed for the presence of dilution. Over-dilution, defined as less than 75% of the standard concentration, was found to be common (P<.05). No significant correlations were found between the incidence of over-dilution and either family income or educational status of the mothers due to the small sample size. The study suggests the need for practical education on the reconstitution of milk feeds.  相似文献

The immunohistochemical occurrence of the neurotrophin (NT) proteins nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-4 (NT-4), and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) is shown in the pre-term newborn, infant, and adult human post-mortem cerebellum. The NT-like immunoreactive structures were unevenly distributed and showed regional differences among cerebellar lobules and folia. NGF-, NT-4-, and NT-3-positive neuronal perikarya were observed in all specimens examined. At variance with the other neurotrophins, the BDNF antiserum labelled neuronal cell bodies only in newborn life and infancy, as well as extensive nerve fibre systems, whose density increased with age. The NT-antibodies, tested by Western blot on human cerebellum homogenates, revealed immunoreactive bands corresponding to proteins of heterogenous molecular weight. The results obtained provide a first demonstration of the tissue localization of the NTs in the human cerebellum from perinatal to adult age, thus suggesting their involvement in the development, differentiation and maintenance of the cerebellar connectivity. Codistribution of the four NTs or sets of them was observed in cortical and deep nuclei neurons. Multiple trophic roles for NTs, encompassing the classic target-derived and local mechanisms of support, are envisaged as significant in development, differentiation, and maintenance of the human cerebellar connectivity.  相似文献

Summary Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is a potent neurotrophic factor for dopaminergic neurons. Since dopaminergic neurons degenerate in Parkinson's disease, this factor is a potential therapeutical tool that may save dopaminergic neurons during the pathological process. Moreover, a reduced GDNF expression may be involved in the pathophysiology of the disease. In this study, we tested whether altered GDNF production may participate in the mechanism of cell death in this disease. GDNF gene expression was analyzed by in situ hybridization using riboprobes corresponding to a sequence of the exon 2 human GDNF gene. Experiments were performed on tissue sections of the mesencephalon and the striatum from 8 patients with Parkinson's disease and 6 control subjects matched for age at death and for post mortem delay. No labelling was observed in either group of patients. This absence of detectable expression could not be attributed to methodological problems as a positive staining was observed using the same probes for sections of astroglioma biopsies from human adults and for sections of a newborn infant brain obtained at post-mortem. These data suggest that GDNF is probably expressed at a very low level in the adult human brain and its involvement in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease remains to be demonstrated. GDNF may represent a powerful new therapeutic agent for Parkinson's disease, however.  相似文献

Summary Seventy-one first-born infants who had been nursed in prone position since birth, were referred for motor assessment at 3 months, 5 months and 9 months. All infants were administered the same checklist of motor items, based on the Amiel-Tison Infant Neurological Evaluation and on the Brunet-Lézine Developmental Psychomotor Scale. Abnormalities in muscular shortening and delay in motor skills were found. These findings are critical as regards environmental influences on postural development, continuities in motor development and issues of early primary prevention. Early identification and follow-up programmes, including frequent changes in posture, are suggested in order to avoid abnormalities of motor behaviour and subsequently in postural patterns.  相似文献

利用高频电感耦合等离子体原子发射光谱法(ICP-AES)测定Sprunge-Dawley大鼠新生期大脑皮层、海马、小脑、间脑和脑桥等部位的锌、铁、铜、锰、铬、锶、钼等7种微量元素的含量,并与成年动物做了比较。结果表明:(1)新生期大鼠全脑7种微量元素含量的多寡依次为:锌、铁、铬、锶、锰、铜、钼;成年期时钢跃居第四位,总含量低于新生期。(2)脑内不同部位微量元素的含量不同。新生大鼠海马和小脑内多数元素含量高于其他脑区,钼在间脑和海马中含量较高。成年鼠皮层、海马微量元素含量较高,皮层内铜、锶、钼含量最低。  相似文献

Attention mediates the acquisition and encoding of information about the world and is central to motor action. Heart rate deceleration and behavioral inhibition are sensitive indices of the attentional process, but it is unknown whether these indices are valid in the context of overt action. The current study investigated the relationship between visual attention, action, and heart rate during reaching in 7(1/2)-month-old infants. We found that infants showed prolonged looking and large heart rate decelerations on reaching and looking trials. We conclude that overt action itself does not prevent the autonomic and behavioral changes that are also seen in attention to simple visual displays and that attention is maintained throughout the act of reaching.  相似文献

目的为探讨双歧杆菌对早产儿食道pH值的影响,及其对早产儿易发生的消化道疾病的防治意义。方法我们采用便携式24hpH值自动记录仪,对61例早产儿进行了食道pH值的动态监测。结果口服双歧杆菌活菌制剂组的30例早产儿,食道pH值明显高于未服药的对照组,t=2.4093,P<0.05。总pH值<4的时间占总观察时间的百分比显著小于对照组。并且治疗组发生消化道疾患的人数也较对照组少。结论早产儿口服双歧杆菌活菌制剂可以减少胃食道反流等消化道疾病的发生。  相似文献

Background: The sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is still the main cause of postneonatal infant death. However, the causes and mechanisms of SIDS have never been completely elucidated. Catecholamines, via α2-adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) interactions, are known to influence brainstem autonomic and respiratory activity. Aims: To examine the catecholaminergic system abnormalities in SIDS victims, we investigated the alterations of α2-AR subtypes. Subjects and methods: We examined the developmental changes of α2-AR subtypes in the brainstem, especially in cardiorespiratory nuclei, in 21 SIDS victims and 17 age-matched controls by means of immunohistochemical methods. For statistical analysis, the χ2-test or Fisher’s exact probability test was performed. Results: There was a significant decrease in α2A-AR immunoreactivity in the solitary nucleus and ventrolateral medulla (VLM) in the medulla oblongata in SIDS victims compared with in control cases, but there were no significant differences of the α2B and α2C-AR immunoreactivity in the brainstem between SIDS victims and controls. Conclusion: α2A-AR immunoreactivity was selectively decreased in the solitary nucleus and VLM in the medulla oblongata in SIDS victims, so there was no possibility that it was secondary to chronic hypoxia or repeated ischemia. It may be related to some impairment of the cardiorespiratory neuronal system. Therefore, SIDS victims may be vulnerable to asphyxia, hypoxia, and/or hypercapnia, and fail to exhibit brainstem responses.  相似文献

Three monkeys with travel vision and 5 controls were observed with their mothers during the first 6 months of age and then for another 3 months after they had been placed in social isolation. In the home cage, the experimental animals did not differ from controls except that two held a hand before their eyes in a stereotyped fashion not previously reported for animals. In an unfamiliar environment the blind animals did not look at an observer, threatened less than normal, and were awkward in moving around. Animals who held hands before eyes tended to approach a flickering visual stimulus.  相似文献
