The major allergens present in mouse skin, serum, and urine have been identified. Skin extracts, serum, and urine were chromatographed, and the activities of the fractions were monitored by histamine release from the leukocytes of individuals sensitive to mice. Fractionation of skin extracts revealed two major allergens. The large allergen has a molecular weight of approximately 67,000 daltons and by biochemical and immunochemical criteria appears to be identical to mouse albumin. The smaller molecular weight allergen is approximately 17,000 daltons. The same two allergens are also found in mouse serum and mouse urine. Histamine release by leukocytes of individuals allergic to mice demonstrated that some individuals react predominantly to the large allergen, some to the small allergen, and one group of patients reacts to both allergens. 相似文献

(LEW X BN)F1 cardiac allografts are rejected within 8 days in untreated LEW recipients. At the critical time point of 5 days after transplantation, the obviously rejecting grafts are enlarged and maximally infiltrated by host cells as shown by 111In-labeled lymphocyte tracer studies. However, when such hearts were retransplanted back to naive (LEW X BN)F1 secondary hosts, they survive indefinitely, showing that even late rejection is reversible in the absence of sustained host immunological drive. Attempts were then made to abrogate this advanced immune responsiveness using Cyclosporine (CsA). CsA therapy (15 mg/kg/day for 7 days) starting from day 5 produced indefinite graft survival, similar as if initiated at the time of operation. Addition of exogenous IL-2, which drives the proliferation of Tc, could not reverse this effect. Serial changes in phenotype of lymphocyte subpopulations infiltrating both acutely rejecting and indefinitely functioning cardiac allografts in unmodified and CsA treated hosts, respectively, were then studied. Ratio of Th:Tc/s cells in acutely rejecting grafts was 1.6 by day 3; it inverted abruptly to 0.7 by day 5-6, suggesting predominance of Tc/s during the later stages of allograft rejection. Similarly, treatment with CsA produced a transient depression of Th, with recovery of original Th:Tc/s ratio during the next 2-3 weeks. The optical properties of pig heart tissue were measured after in vivo ablation therapy had been performed during open-heart
surgery. In vitro samples of normal and ablated tissue were subjected to measurements with an optically integrating sphere
set-up in the region 470–900 nm. Three independent measurements were made: total transmittance, total reflectance and collimated
transmittance, which made it possible to extract the absorption and scattering coefficients and the scattering anisotropy
factor g, using an inverse Monte Carlo model. Between 470 and 700 nm, only the reduced scattering coefficient and absorption
could be evaluated. The absorption spectra were fitted to known tissue chromophore spectra, so that the concentrations of
haemoglobin and myoglobin could be estimated. The reduced scattering coefficient was compared with Mie computations to provide
Mie equivalent average radii. Most of the absorption was from myoglobin, whereas haemoglobin absorption was negligible. Metmyoglobin
was formed in the ablated tissue, which could yield a spectral signature to distinguish the ablated tissue with a simple optical
probe to monitor the ablation therapy. The reduced scattering coefficient increased by, on average, 50% in the ablated tissue,

Sixty-six bipolar I lithium clinic patients were studied for a history of psychotic symptoms at some time during the course of their illness. Agreement between different sources of information was calculated, and the patient population was divided into psychotic and non-psychotic subgroups. Probability of remaining well on lithium for the different subgroups was analyzed by the life table method. Psyllium is a hydrophilic agent found in many bulk laxative preparations. We report the occurrence of an anaphylactic reaction in a patient after ingestion of a psyllium-containing laxative. Skin tests and in vitro histamine-release reactions were used to evaluate 130 patients observed in an employee allergy clinic at a biomedical research facility. The allergens used included extracts from pollens (ragweed, grasses, trees, weeds), molds, mixed feathers, house dust, cat, dog, mouse, rat, rabbit, guinea pig, and hamster. Of all patients, 66% complained of allergic symptoms on laboratory animal exposure, although only 52% worked directly with animals. Among patients with symptoms, 91% were positive by skin test to at least one laboratory animal, and 46% had asthma. The median length of exposure to laboratory animals before onset of symptoms was 2.8 yr with 60% of the patients developing their symptoms within 3 yr. Among patients who had allergic symptoms before exposure to laboratory animals, 79% were skin test positive to laboratory animals when they were evaluated in this study. There was a close association found between the skin test and histamine-release results with the laboratory animal allergens: 91% of the 4+ skin reactors had leukocytes positive for histamine release versus 5% of the leukocyte donors with less than 1+ skin reactions. A close relationship in positive reactions to different laboratory animal allergens was also found. For example, individuals positive to mouse were positive also to rat (95%), rabbit (79%), guinea pig (83%), and hamster (88%). Patients who reacted to laboratory animals also reacted to some extent to house dust and cat and dog allergens, and about one half of the animal-allergic individuals reacted to pollens. Although nonpollen-allergic individuals can develop sensitivity to laboratory animals, the group at higher risk are allergic individuals, especially those sensitive to house dust, cats, or dogs. 相似文献
