Bladder cancer is the second most common urological cancer in the UK, with over 10 000 cases diagnosed annually. With 80% of urothelial bladder cancers being non‐muscle invasive, it is important to understand the treatments available. This review aims to identify and review the literature regarding bacillus Calmette‐Guerin (BCG) treatment. An integrative‐based review was conducted to generate a broad overview of the existing knowledge for BCG treatment. An open search of online databases was conducted to identify articles published in English from the earliest date available to September 2013, using key terms related to BCG. A significant number of articles were identified. To narrow the results and identify the most relevant articles, the search terms were cross‐referenced. The resulting articles were then reviewed using the critical appraisal skills programme framework. The tools provided by CASP give a systematic, transparent and rigorous approach to the quality assessment of research studies. The research articles were then categorized under the following headings: side effects, including local, systemic and age; quality of life; and attrition. The major conclusion from this literature review is that BCG treatment, when given through an induction and maintenance regime, significantly reduces the risk of progression and recurrence. However, there are potential side effects which the patient and the nurse need to be aware. This review also highlighted that there is a lack of research from the UK and that there is a paucity of research showing why patients withdraw from BCG treatment 相似文献
The use of immunoglobulin (Ig) preparations (intravenous, IVIg, subcutaneous, SCIg) for replacement and immunomodulation therapy worldwide has tripled in the past 20 years and represents an ever‐increasing cost factor for healthcare organizations. The limited access to the starting material of this essential medicinal product is currently the driving force for human plasma collection. Increasing awareness and improved diagnosis of human primary immunodeficiencies and a broadening of immunomodulatory indications are responsible for this development, and on a longer run might lead to plasma supply shortages. Consensus recommendations for the optimal use of Ig in clinical practice, including priority rankings for the most urgent indications, are therefore urgently needed. During a recent meeting in Kreuth, Germany, expert nominees from 36 Council of Europe states, together with colleagues from observer countries and regulatory agencies came up with this consensus statement.
Objective:To observe the effect of co-culture cytokine-induced killer cells(CIK) and homologous dendritic cells(DC) on the proliferative activity and phenotype change of the DCCIK cell and the cell killing activity of leukemia HL-60.Methods:50 mL cord blood sample was obtained from infants delivered by full term healthy woman and the cord blood mononuclear cells were isolated by density gradient centrifugal ion.Non-adherent cells were collectedfor the induction culture of CIK.adherent cells were differentiated into mature DC;cultured mature DC was mixed with and CIK in the proportion of 1:5 for 12 d.killing activity of DC-CIK co-cultured cell on leukemia HL-60 was detected by MTT assay. Results:Compared with CIKs.the cocultured DC-CIKs presented a markedly higher proliferation and killing activity.Conclusions:Co-culture of DC-CIK cells led to a significant increase of the proliferation and cytotoxicity of CIK. 相似文献
