The patient was a 12-year-old white girl with a history of fatigue and dizziness, occasional nausea and vomiting, and anemia, who showed abdominal distention, especially in the epigastrium. An epigastric mass was palpable. Gastroscopy was done, and surgery followed. Pertinent laboratory findings are presented, and clinical discussion follows. The greyhound is a fatigue fracture model of a short distance running athlete. Greyhounds have a high incidence of central
(navicular) tarsal bone (CTB) fractures, which are not associated with overt trauma. We wished to determine whether these
fractures occur because of accumulation of fatigue microdamage. We hypothesized that bone from racing dogs would show site-specific
microdamage accumulation, causing predisposition to structural failure. We performed a fractographic examination of failure
surfaces from fractured bones using scanning electron microscopy and assessed microcracking observed at the failure surface
using a visual analog scale. Branching arrays of microcracks were seen in failure surfaces of CTB and adjacent tarsal bones,
suggestive of compressive fatigue failure. Branching arrays of microcracks were particularly prevalent in remodeled trabecular
bone that had become compact. CTB fractures showed increased microdamage when compared with other in vivo fractures (adjacent tarsal bone and long bone fractures), and ex vivo tarsal fractures induced by monotonic loading (P < 0.02). It was concluded that greyhound racing and training often results in CTB structural failure, because of accumulation
and coalescence of branching arrays of fatigue microcracks, the formation of which appears to be predisposed to adapted bone.

In clinical settings, no method has been established to examine the fatigue of a latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) preconditioned for cardiomyoplasty. We examined the feasibility of measuring muscle stiffness (tactile stiffness) to evaluate muscle fatigue in situ using our tactile sensor. We stimulated canine LDM with burst pacing and monitored both stiffness and tension to determine their relationship. In both dissected LDM and LDM in situ, the decrements of these parameters during burst pacing were compared between preconditioned and unconditioned LDM. In measurement in situ, the sensor probe was placed on the LDM through a small incision. Strong statistical correlation was shown between stiffness and tension (r = 0.935). In decrements of stiffness in situ, there were statistically significant differences between preconditioned and unconditioned LDM. Our tactile sensor system can provide an efficient method for evaluating fatigue of muscles in situ without measuring muscle tension. 相似文献

Sandblasting is a procedure of increasing surface roughness. This treatment is common in the orthopedic field. An increased roughness may affect the endurance limit of the material. This study investigates the effect on the endurance limit of the Ti6Al4V due to two different sandblasting treatments: fine sandblasting and coarse sandblasting. Twenty hip stems, 10 finely sandblasted and 10 coarsely sandblasted, were tested under sinusoidal fluctuating bending. The staircase method was used to estimate the endurance limit of the material. The results show an important reduction in the endurance properties up to 40% for the coarsely sandblasted specimens. The failures of the sandblasted specimens were not due to material defects. Rather, the decreased endurance strength of the sandblasted stems was caused by surface defects, which act as crack initiators. By modulating the roughness with an appropriate sandblasting treatment, it is possible to limit the reduction in the endurance limit of the alloy. 相似文献

目的:利用已建立的蟾蜍和小鼠中枢、神经-肌接头和肌疲劳模型,比较不同剂量的黄芪注射液对蟾蜍和小鼠中枢、神经-肌接头和肌疲劳的影响.方法:分别记录蟾蜍和小鼠坐骨神经干动作电位和腓肠肌收缩曲线,测定中枢、神经-肌接头和肌疲劳的时间.结果:①0.8g·kg-1、1.2g·kg-1、1.6g·kg-1和2.0g·kg-1剂量的黄芪注射液均能延缓小鼠中枢、神经-肌接头和肌的疲劳,蟾蜍仅有0.8 g·kg-1和1.2 g·kg-1有此作用,1.6g·kg-1及以上剂量的黄芪注射液对蟾蜍有加速上述部位疲劳的作用.两种动物均以1.2g·kg-1剂量作用最显著;②最佳剂量1.2g·kg-1黄芪注射液延缓两种动物神经-肌接头和肌疲劳的作用与延缓中枢疲劳的作用比较差异具有统计学意义(P<0.05);③最佳剂量1.2g·kg-1黄芪注射液对小鼠三个部位的作用同蟾蜍比较差异具有统计学意义(P<0.05).结论:黄芪注射液对两栖动物和哺乳动物中枢、神经-肌接头和肌疲劳的影响具有差异性;其抗疲劳作用主要发生在神经-肌接头和肌等部位,即延缓外周疲劳;其抗疲劳效应,哺乳动物优于两栖动物. 相似文献

目的:探寻治疗慢性疲劳综合征的有效方法.方法:60例慢性疲劳综合征患者用针灸八会穴方法治疗,观察治疗前后症状积分改善情况及疗效.结果:60例患者痊愈15例,显效26例,好转14例,无效5例,总有效率91.6%;治疗后症状积分显著低于治疗前(P<0.01).结论:针灸八会穴治疗慢性疲劳综合征疗效确切. 相似文献
