Myeloid regeneration after bone-marrow transplantation monitored by serum measurements of myeloperoxidase, lysozyme and lactoferrin

Bone-marrow regeneration after chemo- and radiotherapy-induced aplasia can be monitored by serum levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO), lysozyme (LYS) and lactoferrin (LF). In 10 patients with leukemia, serum measurements were performed before and after bone-marrow transplantation. Bone-marrow regeneration was suggested by increments in serum MPO and LYS 5 and 4 days prior to the increase in mononuclear cells (Mono) and 10 and 9 d before the increase in polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) in the peripheral blood. LF started to rise 4.5 d before detectable circulating PMNs. 2 patients with early relapses of leukemia post transplantation are shown to display atypical patterns of serum MPO and LYS. We conclude that serum measurements of MPO, LYS and LF may be used as early and sensitive means to monitor bone-marrow activity during hematological regeneration. However, the findings also strongly support the earlier proposal that MPO alone may be used to reflect myeloid activity in the bone-marrow in general.     

中药高臀位灌肠治疗慢性肾功能衰竭疗效观察

目的 观察中药高臀位灌肠治疗慢性肾功能衰竭(chronic renal failure,CRF)的临床疗效.方法 将100例CRF患者随机分为两组,治疗组70例采用中药高臀化灌肠治疗,对照组30例口服活性炭治疗.结果 治疗组总有效率为88.6%,对照组总有效率为50.0%.结论 中药高臀位灌肠治疗CRF有效.     

Expression of epithelial matrix molecules collagen and laminin and corresponding integrins in chronic wounds

Re-epithelialization of cutaneous wounds is a coordinated process of proliferation and migration of keratinocytes at the wound edge. The study objective was to identify the differences in epidermal morphology, keratinocyte proliferation and matrix molecules (laminin 1, laminin 5, type IV collagen) and their specific integrin (α3, α6) expression in biopsies of meshed split thickness grafted and chronic wounds. The mean mitotic index of keratinocytes (ratio of cell cycle associated antigen Ki-67 expressing keratinocytes to basal keratinocytes) was highest in chronic wounds (38.7%) compared to acute wounds (22.25%, range 5.7% to 54%). The mean thickness of the hyper-proliferative epithelium at the wound edge of chronic wounds was 0.69 mm compared to 0.15 mm at the wound margin of split thickness grafted wounds. Both chronic wounds and skin grafted wounds exhibited strong laminin 5 immunoreactivity at the basal side of the epithelium, which extended under the most forward keratinocytes. Laminin 1 and type IV collagen immunoreactivity did not extend to the wound margin in either skin grafted or chronic wounds. In both transplanted skin and chronic wounds, the integrin sub-units α3 and α6 exhibited a strong pericellular immunoreactivity on the leading keratinocytes of the wound margin. Our data demonstrates that the proliferation of keratinocytes and the expression of associated integrins are not impaired in chronic wounds. Marked hypodiploidy in blast phase chronic myelogenous leukemia: report of a case and review of the literature

The emergence of a near-haploid clone of cells in blast phase chronic myelogenous leukemia is an unusual event. We report such a case and review eight other cases described in the English literature. The significance of the substantial loss of genetic material is discussed as is the phenotypic and genotypic heterogeneity observed in this group of patients.     

再次泪囊鼻腔吻合术的临床分析

本文报告了１０例慢性泪囊炎患者，行泪囊鼻腔吻合术后，发生吻合口阻塞，再次行泪囊鼻腔吻合术，手术治愈率１００％。并就其阻塞的原因、防止方法、治疗方法进行了讨论     

Cancer mortality among northern Georgia carpet and textile workers

Proportionate cancer mortality was analyzed among white male carpet and textile workers in five northwest Georgia counties for the years 1970-1984. Compared with other Georgians, carpet and textile workers had higher proportions of lymphocytic leukemia (proportionate cancer mortality ratio [PCMR] = 2.9; 95% CI = 1.4-5.4]) and testicular cancer (PCMR = 3.2; 95% CI = 1.0-7.5). The excess mortality from lymphocytic leukemia was even higher when the analysis was limited to workers deemed most likely to work directly in production areas (PCMR = 4.2; 95% CI = 1.7-8.7). Further studies are needed to determine if the observed excesses are the result of workplace exposures.     

慢性重症病毒性肝炎并发医院内曲霉菌感染

1976～1991年我院收治慢性重症病毒性肝炎并发曲霉菌感染15例,感染于住院后3～112天,<30天9例。以血性痰液、胸水、腹水、脑脊液为特点。多数周围血象白细胞不增高,中性粒细胞增高,IgG增高,曲霉菌( );感染后2～10天均死亡。感染前咽部检出白色念珠菌6例,滥用抗生素者占80％。     

白血病患者血清铜、锌的变化

本文报道57例白血病血清铜,锌含量的测定结果。白血病治疗前血清铜升高,铜/锌值增大;治疗后,病情缓解者下降,未缓解者则更高。血清锌在治疗前后无何差异。急性淋巴细胞性白血病骨髓中白血病细胞百分数与血清铜浓度呈正相关。检测血清铜,锌对白血病疗效的预测及判断预后有一定意义。     

Sulpiride in negative schizophrenia: A placebo-controlled double-blind assessment

Twenty-four chronic schizophrenic long-stay hospital patients were identified, who had not received neuroleptic drugs for 8–30 (average 8 months) and met or exceeded a minimum criterion of severity of negative symptoms. They were rendomly alocated to either sulpiride 200 mg twice daily or matching placebo, on a double-blind basis for 12 weeks. The results showed that low-dose sulpiride was significantly better than placebo in relation to improvements in negative symptoms. The changes in social behaviour were complex and not obviously related to symptom improvement; exhibited abnormal behaviour, a major factor in preventing successful return to the community, consistently improved only on the active drug.     

Carbohydrate metabolism in children receiving growth hormone for 5 years

Carbohydrate metabolism was evaluated by fasting and postprandial glucose, insulin, and hemoglobin (Hb)A_1c levels in children with chronic renal insufficiency and various other growth disorders treated with growth hormone. Mean fasting and postprandial glucose remained unchanged throughout the 5-year study period in all four study groups. Median fasting insulin levels rose from lownormal levels into the normal range after 5 years of growth hormone. Average fasting insulin level after 5 years was 10 mU/l. Median postprandial insulin values also rose, yet remained within the normal range at the 5-year mark. Mean Hb A_1c levels remained within low to middle end of the normal range in the patients with growth hormone deficiency, Turner syndrome, and idiopathic short stature. Mean Hb A_1c levels at the 5 years were slightly elevated to 6.3% for the patients with chronic renal insufficiency.
