Minor salivary glands are ubiquitous in the oral cavity, and related diseases are often indolent and asymptomatic. We describe the unusual features of sclerosing polycystic adenosis, and its similarities to more sinister conditions of the minor salivary glands. Its importance is currently uncertain and research points to a pathogenesis that is neoplastic, which can create ambiguity. Sclerosing polycystic adenosis is a newly-discovered condition that merits further discussion and research to evaluate its full impact.  相似文献

We herein investigated the histopathological features, including proliferative activity and immunoexpression, of pancreatic islet cell tumors (ICTs) in male SD rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ) and nicotinamide (NA), and discussed their relevance to biological behaviors and prognoses. A total of 70 and 43% of rats developed ICTs 37–45 weeks after the treatment with STZ (50 or 75 mg/kg, i.v.) and NA (350 mg/kg, twice, p.o.), respectively. Among the islet tumors observed in the STZ/NA-treated groups, 75% were adenomas, while 25% were carcinomas. Most STZ/NA-induced carcinomas were characterized by well-differentiated tumor cells with/without local invasion into the surrounding tissues, and weak proliferative activity. No outcome such as distance metastasis and death was noted. All of the ICTs strongly expressed insulin, part of which had hormone productivity; however there were no hypoglycemia-related clinical signs such as convulsion in these rats 36 weeks after the treatment. These results suggested that rat ICTs induced STZ/NA have small impact on biological activity or prognosis. STZ/NA treatment significantly increased of focal proliferative lesions in the kidney, liver and adrenal glands other than pancreatic islets. Of the STZ/NA-induced kidney tumors, more than 60% were renal cell adenomas, and many of them were basophilic type. The incidence of eosinophilic or clear cell type of tumors was less than 10%, respectively. Immunohistochemical analyses revealed that many of the STZ/NA-induced basophilic type of renal tumors were derived from proximal tubules, whereas the clear cell and eosinophilic types were derived from collecting tubules.  相似文献

??Objective    To study the role of the CCR5 antagonists Maraviroc in the migration??chemotaxis??invasion and proliferation of human salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma. Methods    Scratches??migration??invasion and MTT assays were performed to detect the migration??chemotaxis??invasion and proliferation of SACC-83 and SACC-LM in vitro. Results    Compared with control group, the experimental group which was pretreated by CCR5 inhibitor Maraviroc had lower recuperability in cell scratch model. The number of cells which were blocked by inhibitor decreased significantly on the lower surface of the filters which were fixed in methanol in migration and invasion assays. And proliferation experiment results show that the multiplication capacity of SACC-83 and SACC-LM were obviously inhibited by Maraviroc. Conclusion    Maraviroc may be a kind of new targeted anti-tumor drugs and small-molecule antagonists of CCR5 could inhibit the development of salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma.  相似文献

Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a common spinal disease in the elderly. The cardinal symptom of LSS is neurogenic claudication, but not all patients present with such typical symptom. The clinical symptoms are often confused with symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, musculo-skeletal disease and other medical conditions in elderly patients. In particular, LSS presenting with rapid progression of leg weakness must be distinguished from other combined diseases. We report a case of rapid progressive leg weakness in a patient with LSS and iatrogenic adrenal insufficiency that was induced by obscure health supplement.  相似文献

ObjectiveSteroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1/NR5A1) plays a crucial role in regulating adrenal development, gonad determination and differentiation, and in the hypothalamic-pituitary control of reproduction and metabolism. In men (46, XY), it is known that mutations in SF-1/NR5A1 gene cause a wide phenotypic spectrum with variable degrees of undervirilization. In recent years, the role of SF-1 in the ovarian function was increasingly discussed and alterations in the gene were related to primary ovarian insufficiency. We describe the follow-up of a 46, XX affected woman with a SF-1 mutation and by comparing our case with the known manifestations reported in the literature, we try to further elucidate the function of SF-1 in the ovary.ResultsDuring infancy, adrenal insufficiency was the only clinical sign of the loss-of-function as ovarian development and function seemed normal. To date, this young woman aged 16.5 years shows normal growth, normal BMI and psychomotor development, has a normal puberty and regular menstruation.ConclusionThis report shows one, to date uniquely described, phenotypic variant of SF-1 mutation in a 46, XX affected person with adrenocortical insufficiency but no ovarian dysfunction nor disturbance of pubertal development. To follow the natural history of SF-1 mutation in a 46, XX individual will further shed light on its role in the ovarian function and thus will help to counsel affected patients in future.  相似文献

Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) have emerged as a promising tool with great potential for use in tissue regeneration and engineering. Some of the main advantages of these cells are their multifaceted differentiation capacity, along with their high proliferation rate, a relative simplicity of extraction and culture that enables obtaining patient-specific cell lines for their use in autologous cell therapy. PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases were searched for relevant articles related to the use of DPSCs in regeneration of dentin-pulp complex (DPC), periodontal tissues, salivary gland and craniomaxillofacial bone defects. Few studies were found regarding the use of DPSCs for regeneration of DPC. Scaffold-based combined with DPSCs isolated from healthy pulps was the strategy used for DPC regeneration. Studies involved subcutaneous implantation of scaffolds loaded with DPSCs pretreated with odontogenic media, or performed on human tooth root model as a root slice. Most of the studies were related to periodontal tissue regeneration which mainly utilized DPSCs/secretome. For periodontal tissues, DPSCs or their secretome were isolated from healthy or inflamed pulps and they were used either for preclinical or clinical studies. Regarding salivary gland regeneration, the submandibular gland was the only model used for the preclinical studies and DPSCs or their secretome were isolated only from healthy pulps and they were used in preclinical studies. Likewise, DPSCs have been studied for craniomaxillofacial bone defects in the form of mandibular, calvarial and craniofacial bone defects where DPSCs were isolated only from healthy pulps for preclinical and clinical studies. From the previous results, we can conclude that DPSCs is promising candidate for dental and oral tissue regeneration.  相似文献
