Acinar epithelial cells were purifed from suspensions of cells from the lactating mammary glands of rats. As described previously, this purififaction was accomplished by sedimentation in an isokinetic gradient of Ficoll (polysucrose) in tissue culture medium, and the purity of the separated cells was established by electron microscopy and by histochemical markers. Isoenzymes of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase were investigated at various intervals during lactation in separated populations of stromal and acinar cells. Acinar cells contained three- to eightfold more glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity than did stromal cells. The proportions of the respective isoenzymes varied during the course of lactation, and the observed changes were parallel in purified acinar cells and in the lactating mammary glands from which the cell suspensions were obtained. The availability of purified acinar cells in the investigation of interactions between hormones and cells from the mammary gland permits a greater degree of specificity than has been possible in the study of mammary cell suspensions which contain myoepithelial cells, duct cells, acinar cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, fat cells, mast cells, plasma cells, and blood cells.  相似文献

Spontaneous resolution of fetal nuchal cystic hygroma   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Complete resolution of the hygroma occurred in two fetuses with the mid-trimester ultrasound diagnosis of a nuchal cystic hygroma. Cytogenetic studies showed a normal 46,XX karyotype in one fetus, and a 47,XX, +18 in the other. Complete regression of cystic hygroma has been reported in fetuses with normal chromosomes, as well as in those with trisomy 21, and with Turner's syndrome. The incidence of spontaneous in utero resolution of fetal nuchal cystic hygroma is unknown. The natural history of cystic hygroma in utero cannot be correlated with the chromosome complement. An antenatal karyotype determination should be offered to any patient whose fetus has cystic hygroma, even to those with spontaneous resolution.  相似文献

Between 1986 and 1988, 1924 term nulliparous patients with spontaneous onset of labor were studied to assess the importance of obtaining umbilical cord blood gas levels on all deliveries. The umbilical cord arterial and venous pH values (expressed as mean +/- 2 SD) were 7.24 +/- 0.14 (n = 1694) and 7.32 +/- 0.12 (n = 1820), respectively. The incidence of newborn depression (1- or 5-minute Apgar score less than 7) was 14.1%; of these depressed newborns, the incidence of normal umbilical cord arterial pH values (greater than or equal to -2 SD) was 77.8%. Of the vigorous newborns, there was a 2.1% incidence of umbilical cord arterial blood acidemia. Umbilical cord arterial blood acidemia in vigorous newborns was not highly predictive of specific morbidity in the immediate newborn period. Regression analysis demonstrated the umbilical cord arterial pH to correlate best with the Apgar scores when compared with all other arterial or venous blood gas measurements. We reached the following conclusions: (1) that obtaining cord arterial pH values in vigorous newborns should be considered since the values will provide objective documentation or normal fetal acid base balance in 98% of infants. (2) Only a cord arterial pH determination is recommended since it reflects fetal or newborn status more accurately than all other measurements. Additional measurements increase the likelihood of abnormal results and do not contribute to neonatal management. (3) An umbilical cord blood pH value is extremely useful in ruling out the diagnosis of birth asphyxia in the depressed newborn.  相似文献
