Benzoxazole-2-thiol ( 1 )/dibenzoyl peroxide (Bz2O2) was used as photoinitiator for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in bulk and in solution. The study of initiator decomposition was conducted spectrophotometrically. Kinetic studies of the photopolymerization indicated the formation of a complex between 1 and Bz2O2 in the stoichiometric ratio 2:1. The initiation is believed to occur via in situ formation of bis(benzoxazol-2-yl) disulfide in the presence of light.  相似文献

Volatile components from diesel exhaust particles and coal gasifier process gas condensate were vacuum fractionated by cryogenic distillation and identified by infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The vacuum distillation line consisted of a sample flask and nine traps cooled from 0°C to ?196°C in approximately 20°C steps. The pressure in the vacuum line of about 10?2 Torr was maintained with a vacuum pump. Separated compounds were identified by comparison to reference infrared spectra and confirmed by comparison with standards when practical. Volatile compounds identified from the diesel exhaust particle sample included NOx, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, alkanes, aldehydes, and one and two ring aromatic hydrocarbons. Volatile compounds identified in process gas condensate from a coal gasifier were ammonia, carbonyl sulfide, carbon dioxide, C3-C7 hydrocarbons, one and two ring aromatic hydrocarbons, and phenols. Volatile components collected at either 0° or ?24°C were evaluated to determine their genotoxicity using the Chinese hamster ovary/hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (CHO/HGPRT) assay. Neither the gasifier condensate nor diesel particle samples produced mutations at the HGPRT locus. The diesel samples were not cytotoxic at the concentrations tested (100 μg/ml) but the gasifier samples resulted in 50% cell killing at concentrations between 25 and 100 μg/ml depending on the temperature of collection and the test conditions. Vacuum desorption with cryogenic distillation has provided a means to separate the volatile components in complex environmental samples to allow chemical and biological characterization of these components.  相似文献

ObjectiveFinancial toxicity (FT) has been defined as the patient-level impact of the costs of cancer care. Our objective was to better characterize FT among bladder cancer patients as well as oncologic, demographic and insurance characteristics related to FT.MethodsWe conducted a cross-sectional survey of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Patient Survey Network using the validated COST (COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity) questionnaire. Our primary outcome was relative degree of FT, with lower COST scores corresponding to worse FT. Wilcoxon rank sum tests and multiple regression were used to evaluate differences in demographic, diagnostic and treatment characteristics as they related to degree of FT.ResultsAmong 226 patients, median age was 68 years with 64% male, 83% married, and 49% with Medicare with supplemental insurance. Respondents reported an average of 65 months since diagnosis, with 62% reporting noninvasive disease. Mean COST was 28.4 (range 0–44). On multivariable analysis, patients who were younger, with a household annual income less than $50,000, not retired, or with insurance that was neither Medicare nor employer paid were significantly more likely to have worse FT. A majority of respondents (63.5%) agreed or strongly agreed that they would be interested in discussing cost in the context of their treatment preferences, independent of COST score (P = 0.24).ConclusionsA national cross-sectional survey demonstrated high prevalence of FT which was worse among younger patients with lower incomes, not retired, and without employer-paid or Medicare insurance. Most patients preferred to discuss treatment costs with their bladder cancer provider.  相似文献

Described here are two patients with a newly recognized syndrome of bone and cartilage maldevelopment which, we believe, results from a single embryonic defect, probably of genetic origin. The cardinal manifestations of this association are craniosynostosis, radiohumeral synostosis (RHS), and femoral bowing. Specific secondary defects include midface hypoplasia with characteristic facial appearance and ears, neonatal femoral fractures, and multiple minor anomalies of the limbs. Though the differential diagnosis includes such disorders as the campomelic syndrome, osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) and certain of acrocephalosyndactyly syndromes, the unique combination of clinical and radiographic abnormalities allows ready differentiation. The study aim was to determine the extent of malnutrition among young children in an urban Muslim slum community in India in 1986. The sample included 103 families and 88 children 0-5 years old. 57.95% of the children were undernourished: 40.91% at Grade I, 14.77% at Grade II, and 2.27% at Grade III. 75% of infants were undernourished. The relationship between age and nutritional status was not statistically significant, but the association between sex and nutritional status was significant. 68.88% of females and 46.53% of males were undernourished. 64.71% of the undernourished and 51.35% of the nourished had illiterate parents. 70% of children with 3 or more siblings and 58.85% of children with less than 3 siblings were undernourished. 41.18% of the undernourished had upper respiratory tract infections, 52.82% had diarrhea, and 97.37% had parasitic infections. The respective proportions for nourished children were 59.46%, 40.54%, and 78.57%. Statistically significant differences occurred only for parasitic infections.  相似文献

Recent studies have demonstrated that following estrogen ablation, estrogen responsive breast cancer cells undergo apoptosis. In addition, estrogen receptor (ER) expression has been strongly correlated with the expression of the bcl-2 gene product, p26Bcl-2 protein, which is known to inhibit apoptosis. In the present studies, we investigated whether estrogen affects the intracellular levels of p26Bcl-2 and thereby modulates taxol-induced apoptosis of estrogen responsive human breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Transfer of MCF-7 cells to a culture-medium without estrogens reduced their intracellular p26Bcl-2 levels by 50%. Inclusion of 0.1 M estradiol in the medium produced approximately a four-fold increase in p26Bcl-2, but not p29Bcl-xL or p21Bax levels; the expression of the c-myc and mdr-1 genes remained unchanged. Estradiol-induced four-fold increase in the ratio of the p26Bcl-2 to p21Bax levels caused a significant decline in the lethal, kilobase size DNA fragments of apoptosis, which had resulted when MCF-7 cells were cultured in a medium without estrogen. In addition, in MCF-7 cells, estradiol-induced increase in the intracellular p26Bcl-2 to p21Bax ratios was associated with a significant reduction in the large-sized DNA fragmentation induced by treatment with taxol. The increased ratios also protected MCF-7 cells against taxol-mediated cytotoxicity as assessed by the MTT assay. These results suggest that by modulating p26Bcl-2 levels, estrogens may affect the antitumor activity of taxol and potentially of other anti-breast cancer drugs against estrogen responsive human breast cancer cells.  相似文献

Recent studies of the peristaltic pressure wave have suggested the presence of two sequential but overlapping contraction segments in the distal esophageal body. In this report, propagation velocity of esophageal peristalsis was determined in these segments in normal subjects (N=35) and in patients with high-amplitude peristalsis (nutcracker esophagus,N=25) to see if intersegment differences were present in the normal or abnormal setting. Velocity measurements were made from conventional manometric tracings in two 4-cm regions representing the distal smooth-muscle segments. A novel method of velocity measurement was employed that used regression lines established from contraction onset times. In normal subjects, propagation velocity decreased significantly from the proximal to distal segment (4.9±0.5 cm/sec, vs 3.2±0.2 cm/sec,P<0.01). Velocity also decreased across segments in nutcracker-esophagus patients (5.3±0.6 cm/sec, vs 3.6±0.7 cm/sec,P=0.06), but the difference reached statistical significance only when the subset with highest amplitudes (180 mm Hg) was analyzed separately. Greater variance in velocity in the distal smooth-muscle segment of nutcracker-esophagus patients (P<0.01) was, in part, responsible for this statistical observation. We conclude that normal propagation velocity decreases across regions corresponding to the smooth-muscle contraction segments defined by recent studies of peristalsis, supporting the assumption that they represent separate neuromuscular units. The mechanisms responsible for contraction wave abnormalities in the nutcracker esophagus have a minimal effect on propagation velocity, an effect that is restricted to the distal smooth-muscle segment of the esophageal body.Supported in part by a grant from the United States Public Health Service (AM07130).  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of a controlled-release formulation (coat--core) of the calcium channel blocker nisoldipine was investigated in eight subjects with biopsy-proved liver cirrhosis and eight healthy subjects. In Stage I, subjects received a single 10-mg dose to determine if this dose would be safely tolerated in the subjects with cirrhosis. Because all subjects in both groups tolerated the dose without difficulty, all were continued to Stage II. In Stage II, subjects received a once-daily dose of 10-mg coat-core tablets for 7 days. Serial plasma samples were assayed for nisoldipine in both stages. The C(max) and AUC of nisoldipine were approximately fourfold to fivefold higher (p < 0.01) in subjects with cirrhosis as compared to healthy subjects; however, there was overlap in the range of pharmacokinetic parameters between the two groups. The accumulation factor following multiple dosing was similar in both groups. Results suggest that nisoldipine dose should be optimized by monitoring of a pharmacodynamic end point, such as effect on blood pressure. It is likely that dose requirements for patients with liver disease will be lower.  相似文献
