To clarify characteristics of each human somatosensory evoked field (SEF) component following passive movement (PM), PM1, PM2, and PM3, using high spatiotemporal resolution 306-channel magnetoencephalography and varying PM range and angular velocity. We recorded SEFs following PM under three conditions [normal range–normal velocity (NN), small range–normal velocity (SN), and small range–slow velocity (SS)] with changing movement range and angular velocity in 12 participants and calculated the amplitude, equivalent current dipole (ECD) location, and the ECD strength for each component. All components were observed in six participants, whereas only PM1 and PM3 in the other six. Clear response deflections at the ipsilateral hemisphere to PM side were observed in seven participants. PM1 amplitude was larger under NN and SN conditions, and mean ECD location for PM1 was at primary motor area. PM3 amplitude was larger under SN condition and mean ECD location for PM3 under SS condition was at primary somatosensory area. PM1 amplitude was dependent on the angular velocity of PM, suggesting that PM1 reflects afferent input from muscle spindle, whereas PM3 amplitude was dependent on the duration. The ECD for PM3 was located in the primary somatosensory cortex, suggesting that PM3 reflects cutaneous input. The purpose of this study was to evaluate age-related differences in expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by periodontal ligament (PDL) cells. PDL cells were obtained from Wistar male rats weighing approximately 150 g each in the young group and 350 g each in the old group. PDL cells derived from upper and lower incisors were seeded in 35-mm culture dishes after primary culture. For cell proliferation assays, cells were detached and counted at 1, 3, 5, 7, 11 and 14 days after culture. VEGF mRNA expression was analyzed with TaqMan. The number of cells in both groups increased day by day, but the rate of increase in the young group was higher than that in the old group. VEGF mRNA expression in the young group increased from 3 to 14 days, but in the old group increased only slightly over the same time period. Expression ratios in the young group were higher than those in the old group, and there were significant differences between the young and old groups at 7 and 14 days of culture. In conclusion, the data revealed that PDL cells varied with age, and suggest that in view of such changes in cell proliferation and VEGF mRNA expression, age should be taken into consideration in periodontal treatment. 相似文献

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a safe and effective treatment for upper urinary tract stones. However, the mechanism by which this treatment may be involved in causing ventricular premature contractions (VPC) is unknown. We evaluated the relationship between VPC and plasma hormones in patients treated by ESWL. Holter monitoring was performed on 61 outpatients undergoing ESWL with electrocardiographic synchronization for upper urinary tract stones. The levels of cathecolamine, plasma renin activity (PRA), plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC), and human atrial natriuretic peptide (hANP) were measured before, immediately after, and 7 days after ESWL. Systolic blood pressure increased significantly immediately after, and decreased 7 days after ESWL. VPC occurred during 23 treatments (37.7%) but during ESWL no significant relationship was observed with the treatment side or location. Epinephrine increased significantly immediately after ESWL. hANP increased significantly immediately after ESWL, and decreased 7 days later. VPC occurred in all patients who had an hANP value above 40 pg/ml before ESWL. These results suggest that VPC is related to hemodynamic changes, and that hANP can predict VPC during ESWL. 相似文献

We have assessed the effect of lidocaine (lignocaine) on histamine- induced
bronchoconstriction by direct visualization with a superfine fibreoptic
bronchoscope. Seven mongrel dogs were anaesthetized with pentobarbital
(pentobarbitone) 30 mg kg-1 followed by 2 mg kg-1 h-1 and pancuronium 200
micrograms kg-1 h-1. The trachea was intubated with a tracheal tube
containing a second lumen for insertion of a 2.2-mm fibreoptic
bronchoscope. This allowed estimation of the bronchial cross- sectional
area (BCA) of the third bronchial bifurcation of the right lung. We used
NIH image, a public domain image processing and analysis program.
Bronchoconstriction was produced with a bolus dose of histamine 10
micrograms kg-1 i.v. followed by continuous infusion of 500 micrograms kg-1
h-1. After 30 min the following i.v. doses of lidocaine were given:
lidocaine 0 (saline), 0.01, 0.1, 1.0 and 10 mg kg- 1 at 10-min intervals.
BCA was assessed 90 s after each dose. Arterial blood sampling was
performed for measurement of plasma catecholamines. Lidocaine 1.0 and 10 mg
kg-1 significantly reduced histamine-decreased BCA from 69.7 (SEM 4.1)% to
59.8 (7.3)% and 34.3 (6.8)%, respectively. Plasma concentrations of
catecholamines decreased significantly after lidocaine 10 mg kg-1 i.v. In
addition, there was a significant correlation between percentage decreases
in plasma concentrations of epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine
(noradrenaline) and reduction in %BCA (epinephrine-BCA, P < 0.01, r =
0.674; norepinephrine- BCA, P < 0.01, r = 0.510). This study suggests
that i.v. lidocaine may exacerbate histamine-induced bronchoconstriction by
a sympatholytic effect. This may have therapeutic implications for patients
with acute asthma or anaphylactic shock who may become dependent on
circulating catecholamines.

Proteases influence various leukocyte effector functions. We investigated the specific binding activity of neutrophil elastase (NE) on rat peritoneal macrophages to stimulate chemokine production in vitro. NE enhanced macrophage production of monocyte chemo-attractant protein-1 (MCP-1) (CC-chemokine) and cytokine-induced neutrophil chemo-attractant (CINC) (CXC-chemokine). However, the serine protease inhibitor, phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF), significantly reduced these chemokine productions by macrophages stimulated with NE. 125I-NE was significantly bound to macrophages, but 125I-NE binding was inhibited by addition of unlabeled NE. In addition, NE significantly stimulated [3H]thymidine incorporation into DNA on 3T3 fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that NE stimulates chemokine production by macrophages. This may be a receptor-mediated reaction. Thus, NE not only degrades extra-cellular matrix but also stimulates chemokine production by macrophages. 相似文献

Background: Histopathological study in amyloid heart demonstrates that myocyte destructed by the extracellular deposition of amyloid protein together with viable myocyte is present. We hypothesized that rapid thallium washout may be found in amyloid heart as in regions which have a mixture of viable myocyte and scar tissue in patients with myocardial infarction. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent and severity of myocardial damage due to amyloid deposits using the washout rate of the tracer on rest-redistribution thallium-201 (201Tl) myocardial scans in cardiac amyloidosis patients. Methods: Rest-redistribution 201Tl myocardial scintigraphy was performed in 5 patients with biopsy-proved systemic amyloidosis with cardiac involvement (amyloidosis group). The initial and delayed images were obtained 15?min and 4?h, respectively, after intravenous injection of the tracer of 111?MBq. Washout rate of the tracer was calculated. Twelve patients with no apparent heart disease served as controls (control group). Results: Mean washout rate of the whole heart was higher in the amyloidosis group than in the control group (56 ± 9% vs 36 ± 6%, p < 0.001). Particularly, 4 of the 5 patients in the amyloidosis group presented a very high rate of thallium clearance which ranged from 57 to 61%, and died in less than a year. In the remaining 1 patient who had a normal washout rate of the tracer in the first study, it changed from 40 to 53% during the 5-year follow-up period. Conclusions: Washout rate in the setting of rest and delayed 201Tl images may represent the severity of amyloid depositions in the myocardium and may provide prognostic information. 相似文献
