Metals are essential for human life and physiological functions but may sometimes cause disorders. Therefore, we conducted acute toxicity testing of 50 metals in Daphnia magna: EC50s of seven elements (Be, Cu, Ag, Cd, Os, Au and Hg) were < 100 µg l?1; EC50s of 13 elements (Al, Sc, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn, Se, Rb, Y, Rh, Pt, Tl and Pb) were between 100 and 1000 µg l?1; EC50s of 14 elements (Li, V, Mn, Fe, Ge, As, In, Sn, Sb, Te, Cs, Ba, W and Ir) were between 1,001 and 100,000 µg l?1; EC50s of six elements (Na, Mg, K, Ca, Sr and Mo) were > 100,000 µg l?1; and. 7 elements (Ti, Zr, Bi, Nb, Hf, Re and Ta) did not show EC50 at the upper limit of respective aqueous solubility, and EC50s were not obtained. Ga, Ru and Pd adhered to the body of D. magna and physically retarded the movement of D. magna. These metals formed hydroxides after adjusting the pH. Therefore, here, we distinguished this physical effect from the physiological toxic effect. The acute toxicity results of 40 elements obtained in this study were not correlated with electronegativity. Similarly, the acute toxicity results of metals including the rare metals were also not correlated with first ionization energy, atomic weight, atomic number, covalent radius, atomic radius or ionic radius. We report a case of dyskeratosis congenita ( DCG ) with neutropenia, lymphocytopenia and thrombocytopenia. Peripheral blood T lymphocytes (T cells) were proved to have a suppressive effect on the colony forming unit granulocyte-macrophage (CFU-GM). Splenectomy caused a transient increase of neutrophil count with the disappearance of the suppressive T cell activity. However, pancytopenia recurred without re-appearance of suppressive T cell activity.  相似文献

The term ‘emphysema’ is generally used in a morphological sense, and therefore imaging modalities have an important role in diagnosing this disease. In particular, high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is a reliable tool for demonstrating the pathology of emphysema, even in subtle changes within secondary pulmonary lobules. Generally, pulmonary emphysema is classified into three types related to the lobular anatomy: centrilobular emphysema, panlobular emphysema, and paraseptal emphysema. In this pictorial review, we discuss the radiological – pathological correlation in each type of pulmonary emphysema. HRCT of early centrilobular emphysema shows an evenly distributed centrilobular tiny areas of low attenuation with ill-defined borders. With enlargement of the dilated airspace, the surrounding lung parenchyma is compressed, which enables observation of a clear border between the emphysematous area and the normal lung. Because the disease progresses from the centrilobular portion, normal lung parenchyma in the perilobular portion tends to be preserved, even in a case of far-advanced pulmonary emphysema. In panlobular emphysema, HRCT shows either panlobular low attenuation or ill-defined diffuse low attenuation of the lung. Paraseptal emphysema is characterized by subpleural well-defined cystic spaces. Recent topics related to imaging of pulmonary emphysema will also be discussed, including morphometry of the airway in cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, combined pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary emphysema, and bronchogenic carcinoma associated with bullous lung disease.  相似文献

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to identify the time to achieve a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) nadir of ≤0.2 ng/mL and the related factors to achieve this goal.Materials and MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed 2218 Japanese prostate cancer patients who received 125I brachytherapy with or without external beam radiotherapy between 2003 and 2013 at one institution. Among them, patients followed up for ≥72 months and without luteinizing hormone–releasing hormone (LH-RH) agonist/antagonist were included (total of 1089 patients). The time to a PSA nadir of ≤0.2 ng/mL (months) was defined as the time between the date of implantation and the first time the lowest PSA value reached ≤0.2 ng/mL. Biochemical recurrence (BCR) was determined using the Phoenix definition. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to detect the related factors to achieve this nadir.ResultsWe assigned 409, 592, and 88 patients to the low-, intermediate-risk, and high-risk groups, respectively. The median followup time was 9.5 years. The median time to achieve a PSA nadir of ≤0.2 ng/mL was 44.0 (95% confidence interval: 42.3–45.7) months. The percentage of patients that achieved the nadir was 89.1%. BCR was noted in 107 (9.8%) patients. In the multivariate analysis of patients without BCR, younger age, larger prostate volume at implantation, higher initial PSA level, and monotherapy were significantly associated with longer time to achieve the PSA nadir.ConclusionThe median time to achieve a PSA nadir of ≤0.2 ng/mL was 44.0 months. Some patients, however, may require a lengthy period of time to do so.  相似文献

IntroductionHaemophilus influenzae with a reduced susceptibility to quinolones (quinolone low-susceptible H. influenzae) has recently emerged in Japan. In addition, the regional outbreak of the quinolone low-susceptible H. influenzae ST422 clone has been reported. In this study, we isolated this clone from an acute care hospital located in a geographically different area from the previous outbreak and characterised the nature of this clone.MethodsEighty-nine H. influenzae isolated between 2017 and 2019 were tested. The antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by the broth dilution method. The genetic background was analysed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multilocus sequence typing. Growth ability and β-lactamase acquisition were evaluated by growth curve analysis and conjugative transfer experiments, respectively.ResultsQuinolone low-susceptible isolates accounted for 4.2% (1/24) in 2018 and 13.9% (5/36) in 2019. Most of the quinolone low-susceptible strains (83.3%) were classified as ST422 and had amino acid substitutions in quinolone resistance-determining regions in both GyrA and ParC. The patients’ backgrounds were highly diverse. In addition, these isolates showed the same PFGE pattern as outbreak strains. The growth of ST422 clone was relatively faster than other clones. Furthermore, ST422 clone was able to acquire β-lactamase from a β-lactamase positive strain by horizontal transfer, becoming highly resistant to β-lactams.ConclusionOur study indicated that the quinolone low-susceptible H. influenzae ST422 clone has been spreading in the community undetected. In addition, this clone has the potential to grow faster and become more resistant through exogenous gene transfer. Therefore, ST422 clone should be monitored attention throughout Japan.  相似文献
