Transgenic expression in medaka of the Xiphophorus oncogene xmrk, under a pigment cell specific mitf promoter, induces hyperpigmentation and pigment cell tumors. In this study, we crossed the Hd-rR and HNI inbred strains because complete genome information is readily available for molecular and genetic analysis. We prepared an Hd-rR (p53+/−, p53−/−) and Hd-rR HNI hybrid (p53+/−) fish-based xmrk model system to study the progression of pigment cells from hyperpigmentation to malignant tumors on different genetic backgrounds. In all strains examined, most of the initial hyperpigmentation occurred in the posterior region. On the Hd-rR background, mitf:xmrk-induced tumorigenesis was less frequent in p53+/− fish than in p53−/− fish. The incidence of hyperpigmentation was more frequent in Hd-rR/HNI hybrids than in Hd-rR homozygotes; however, the frequency of malignant tumors was low, which suggested the presence of a tumor suppressor in HNI genetic background fish. The effects on tumorigenesis in xmrk-transgenic immature medaka of a single 1.3 Gy irradiation was assessed by quantifying tumor progression over 4 consecutive months. The results demonstrate that irradiation has a different level of suppressive effect on the frequency of hyperpigmentation in purebred Hd-rR compared with hybrids. 相似文献

A 78-year-old female was admitted to Shizuoka red cross hospital because of an abnormal shadow at the right upper lung field on chest X-ray film. A left atrium myxoma was detected at chest CT scan after admission. Though the lung tumor was well defined and hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes were not swollen at CT scan, the tumor was suspected a small cell carcinoma at the result of trans-bronchoscopic biopsy. Firstly we performed removal of the left atrium myxoma, and two months later, we performed thoracotomy and partial resection of the right upper lobe. The lung tumor was finally diagnosed as a typical carcinoid. We have followed the patient for about 32 months after the operation and there is no evidence of tumor recurrence. 相似文献

In this report we describe the surgical details involved in refilling the lenses of 13 rabbit and 3 primate eyes using an inflatable endocapsular balloon to restore accommodation. The procedure involves endocapsular phacoemulsification through a small buttonhole or dumbbell anterior capsulotomy or minicircular capsulotomy and the simultaneous preservation of capsular integrity, including the zonules and ciliary muscles. An inflatable balloon made of thin silicone membrane is then inserted into the empty capsular bag. A liquid silicone polymer is injected into the balloon through a delivery tube, and the empty capsular bag is refilled by the inflated balloon. The procedure was found to be reproducible, and an accommodation of 6 D was confirmed in one primate eye. Capsular opacification occurred, but the proliferation and migration of residual lens epithelial cells could be hindered by abundant refilling. This lens-refilling technique may provide restoration of accommodation in future cataract surgery.

Six cochlear implant recipients with hearing aids in the opposite ear were studied to survey binaural advantage. They were examined in separate tests by using a hearing aid alone, cochlear implant alone, and by using both devices (bimodal condition). Test items used were the Japanese monosyllable word list 67--S and Japanese HINT. Statistically significantly results were obtained in the bimodal condition, three out of six subjects were successful in the monosyllable word test and all successful in the Japanese HINT. We conclude that all subjects enjoyed binaural advantage in speech perception in bimodal condition with no conflict at the recognition level; even when different sounds from cochlear implant and contralateral hearing aid were received. We have reported that excess soybean treatment and iodine deficiency synergistically interact, resulting in remarkable induction of thyroid hyperplasias in rats. In the present study, modifying effects of excess soybean and iodine-deficient diets were investigated in the post-initiation phase of N-bis(2-hydroxypropyl)nitrosamine [DHPN]-initiated thyroid tumorigenesis in rats. AIN-93G in which casein was replaced with gluten was used as a basal diet to avoid possible iodine contamination. In Experiment 1, F-344 rats of both sexes were sc injected with DHPN at a dose of 2800 mg/kg body weight and then fed a diet containing 0%, 0.8%, 4%, or 20% defatted soybean for 12 weeks, with proportional replacement of gluten by soybean flour. Although no thyroid proliferative lesions were found in any group, the absolute thyroid weights were significantly (p < 0.01) elevated with the 20% soybean treatment. In Experiment 2, after similar sc injection of DHPN, rats were fed a basal diet or a diet containing 20% soybean under iodine normal or deficient conditions for 12 weeks. Soybean feeding to both sexes under iodine deficient but not normal conditions dramatically enhanced the development of thyroid follicular adenomas (p < 0.01) and adenocarcinomas (p < 0.05), in good agreement with decrease in thyroxine and increase in thyroid-stimulating hormone. Thus co-exposure to excess soybean and iodine deficiency results in synergistic promotion of DHPN-initiated thyroid tumorigenesis in rats, of which mechanisms appear to primarily involve effects on serum hormone levels. 相似文献
