Tuberculosis (Tbc) remains as a major public health problem in the world. Extrapulmonary Tbc is gaining importance and it accounts for approximately 15% of all new cases. Osteoarticular Tbc is an infrequent form of the disease, accounting for 1-5% of all cases. Joints are uncommon site of infection; therefore, peripheral Tbc is considered rare. Tbc arthritis are usually monoarticular but oligoarticular involvement are also reported. We presented here four cases with osteoarticular Tbc and reviewed the literature. 相似文献

Oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species is proposed to cause age related muscle wasting (sarcopenia). Reversible oxidation of protein thiols by reactive oxygen species can affect protein function, so we evaluated whether muscle wasting in normal aging was associated with a pervasive increase in reversible oxidation of protein thiols or with an increase in irreversible oxidative damage to macromolecules. In gastrocnemius muscles of C57BL/6J female mice aged 3, 15, 24, 27, and 29 months there was no age related increase in protein thiol oxidation. In contrast, there was a significant correlation (R 2 = 0.698) between increasing protein carbonylation, a measure of irreversible oxidative damage to proteins, and loss of mass of gastrocnemius muscles in aging female mice. In addition, there was an age-related increase in lipofuscin content, an aggregate of oxidised proteins and lipids, in quadriceps limb muscles in aging female mice. However, there was no evidence of an age-related increase in malondialdehyde or F2-isoprostanes levels, which are measures of oxidative damage to lipids, in gastrocnemius muscles. In summary, this study does not support the hypothesis that a pervasive increase in protein thiol oxidation is a contributing factor to sarcopenia. Instead, the data are consistent with an aging theory which proposes that molecular damage to macromolecules leads to the structural and functional disorders associated with aging. 相似文献

Two series of amino‐1,4‐benzoquinones ( AQ1–18 ) based on the structural analogs of plastoquinones were synthesized and the structure–activity relationship against chronic myelogenous leukemia activity was examined. All of the synthesized compounds were tested for their cytotoxic effects on different leukemic cell lines. Of interest, AQ15 exhibited a better selectivity than the reference drug imatinib on cancer cells. Owing to this, AQ15 was selected for a further apoptosis/necrosis evaluation where AQ15 ‐treated K562 cells demonstrated similar apoptotic effects like imatinib‐treated cells at their IC50 values. The inhibitory effects of AQ15 and the other three compounds with various activities against eight tyrosine kinases, including ABL1, were investigated. AQ15 showed weak activity against ABL1, and a correlation was observed between the anti‐K562 and anti‐ABL1 activities. The binding mode of AQ15 into the ATP binding pocket of ABL1 kinase was predicted in silico, showing the formation of some key interactions. In addition, AQ15 was shown to suppress the downstream signaling of BCR‐ABL in K562 cells. Finally, AQ15 obviously cleaved DNA in the presence of an iron(II) complex system, indicating that this can be the major mechanism of its antiproliferative action, whereas the mild inhibition of ABL kinase is just in‐part mechanism of its overall outstanding cellular activity. 相似文献

Background: The exact etiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) remains unclear. Curative treatment is not available and current treatment modalities are mainly directed against the predominant symptoms. There are a few studies reporting the beneficial effects of transcutaneous electrical stimulation in patients with chronic constipation, gastroparesis, and functional dyspepsia. Aim: To investigate whether transcutaneous electrical stimulation is an effective procedure in IBS patients. Methods: IBS patients were randomly placed in vacuum interferential current (IFC) and placebo groups. Both treatments consisted of 12 sessions administered over 4 weeks. Symptoms due to IBS were documented via questionnaires, including the IBS Global Assessment of Improvement Scale, numeric rating scales, visual analogue scale, and IBS Quality of Life Scale at the beginning of, end of, and 1 month after the treatment. Results: Patients in the therapy (29 cases) and placebo (29 cases) groups were homogeneous with respect to demographic data and gastrointestinal system symptoms. When compared to the beginning scores, severity of abdominal discomfort, bloating, and abdominal distension and rumbling improved significantly in either interference or placebo groups at both the end of treatment and 1 month after treatment. In the IFC group, severity of symptoms continued to decrease significantly at 1 month after treatment when compared to scores at just the end of treatment, whereas in the placebo group severity of these symptoms did not change significantly on numeric severity scales. Also, the visual analogue scale of the first month after treatment continued to decrease significantly when compared to the level at the end of treatment in the IFC group. Total quality score increased significantly in the IFC group. Conclusions: Vacuum IFC therapy can significantly improve symptoms and quality of life in patients with IBS. It may represent a novel treatment modality for drug-refractory IBS patients. 相似文献

Objective of this study is to asses the relationship between tender point count (TPC) and the severity of disease in patients
with primary fibromyalgia (FM). One hundred and seven female patients with FM diagnosis according to ACR criteria were included
to the study. Main outcome measures were fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ), Beck depression inventory (BDI), visual
analog scale (VAS) and tender point assessment. Mean TPC was 14.66 ± 2.50 and mean VAS was 6.6 ± 1.2 cm. Mean total FIQ score
and BDI was 62.75 ± 15.57 and 16.17 ± 7.12, respectively. TPC was correlated positively with FIQ and VAS scores. There was
no correlation between TPC and age and duration of symptoms. In conclusion, TPC is a simple and noninvasive examination finding

Osteopoikilosis (OPK) is an uncommon osteosclerotic dysplasia. There is no exact evidence of its etiology and pathogenesis. Usually, it is an asymptomatic disease, and the diagnosis is made incidentally from radiographs, which show multiple, small, well-defined, variably shaped and widely distributed sclerotic areas over the skeleton. Carbohydrate antigen-125 (CA-125) is emerging as a prognostic biomarker of risk in heart failure. In a prospective study, we compared the prognostic values of CA-125 and amino-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with stable heart failure.We enrolled 102 consecutive chronic, stable, systolic-heart-failure patients (68 men and 34 women; median age, 71 yr) from November 2008 through February 2010. We measured baseline NT-proBNP and CA-125 levels and compared their prognostic values. The primary endpoint was all-cause death and other major adverse events, defined as hospitalization for decompensated heart failure or acute coronary syndrome.During a mean follow-up period of 14 ± 2 months, 12 patients died and 35 others sustained major adverse events. We found that CA-125 level significantly correlated with New York Heart Association functional class, pulmonary artery pressure, microalbuminuria, creatine kinase-MB fraction, and hemoglobin, albumin, and NT-proBNP levels. Upon receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, CA-125 and NT-proBNP had similar accuracy in predicting major adverse events and death: for major adverse events, area under the curve (AUC) was 0.699 for CA-125 (P=0.002) and 0.696 for NT-proBNP (P=0.002); for death, AUC was 0.784 for CA-125 (P=0.003) and 0.824 for NT-proBNP (P=0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that CA-125 levels greater than 32 U/mL and NT-proBNP levels greater than 5,300 pg/mL had independent prognostic value for major adverse events and death.We conclude that baseline CA-125 and NT-proBNP levels are comparably reliable as heart-failure markers, and that CA-125 can be used for prognosis prediction in heart failure. 相似文献

ObjectiveParalytic poliomyelitis (pPM) is clinically suspected in individuals experiencing a non-progressive syndrome of flaccid paralysis and atrophy as a sequel of an acute infection. Despite normal sensory perception, patients with pPM complain of pain more than matched siblings. Here, we studied the characteristics of evoked pain in a cohort of pPM patients using contact heat evoked potentials and psychophysical tests.MethodsFifteen patients with pPM and 15 controls were studied. Inclusion criteria were unilateral or asymmetric involvement of lower extremities. Mechanical, warm and heat pain perception thresholds and evoked pain were measured in both thighs. Contact heat evoked potentials were recorded from the vertex.ResultsMechanical and heat pain thresholds were significantly lower in the affected than in the less-affected leg or in the legs of controls. Evoked pain ratings were significantly higher in the affected leg than in either the less-affected leg or in controls. Evoked potentials were significantly higher in the affected than in the less-affected leg.ConclusionPatients with pPM have mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia, which suggests abnormalities in processing of somatosensory inputs in these patients.SignificanceThis phenomenon should be taken into account in the routine clinical evaluation and management of pPM patients. 相似文献
