We wanted to evaluate the cutaneous synthesis of 25OHD and cholecalciferol after one whole-body exposure to ultraviolet radiation type B (UVB) in a randomized setup. Healthy volunteers were randomized to one whole-body exposure in a commercial tanning bed with UVB emission (UVB/UVA ratio 1.8-2.0%) or an identical placebo tanning bed without UVB. The output in the 280-320?nm range was 450?μW/cm(2). Blood samples were analyzed for 25OHD and cholecalciferol at baseline and during 7?days after treatment. We included 20 volunteers, 11 to UVB and 9 to placebo treatment. During the first 6?h, no significant differences in 25OHD between the groups were found. At the end of the study, we found a mean increase of 25OHD in the UVB group of 4.5?nmol/l (SD 7?nmol/l) compared to a decline of -1.2?nmol/l (SD 7?nmol/l) in the placebo group (p?=?0.1). A linear mixed model yielded an increase of 25OHD in the UVB group of 1.0?nmol/l per 24?h (p?0.01). For cholecalciferol, we found a near significant increase of 1?pmol/l per hour in the UVB group compared to the placebo group during the first 6?h (p?=?0.052). For InP-based QDs, the current technology does not outperform CdSe-based QDs in many respects, one of which is stability. The optical stability of QDs is closely related to their surface properties, so QDs often use organic ligands for surface protection. These organic ligands are dynamically attached and detached on the QD surface; during detachment, their surfaces are easily damaged and oxidized, thereby deteriorating their optical characteristics. Therefore, we have synthesized a ligand 1,2-hexadecanedithiol with a bidentate form, inducing one ligand to bind to the QD surface strongly through the chelate effect, as a good way to improve the stability of the QDs; thus, the PL stability of the green-light-emitting InP-based QDs was greatly increased. To confirm the existence of the dithiol ligand, we used thermogravimetric analysis/simultaneous thermal analysis-mass spectroscopy (TGA/STA-MS). After that, we applied the ligand to blue-light-emitting ZnSe QDs and red-light-emitting InP QDs, and for those two types of QD we also confirmed that the stability was increased. Purpose
The aim of this study was to investigate metabolic and textural parameters from pretreatment [18F]FDG PET/CT scans for the prediction of neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy response and 3-year disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).Methods
We performed a retrospective review of 74 patients diagnosed with LARC who were initially examined with [18F]FDG PET/CT, and who underwent neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy followed by complete resection. The standardized uptake value (mean, peak, and maximum), metabolic volume (MV), and total lesion glycolysis of rectal cancer lesions were calculated using the isocontour method with various thresholds. Using three-dimensional textural analysis, about 50 textural features were calculated for PET images. Response to neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy, as assessed by histological tumour regression grading (TRG) after surgery and 3-year DFS, was evaluated using univariate/multivariate binary logistic regression and univariate/multivariate Cox regression analyses.Results
MVs calculated using the thresholds mean standardized uptake value of the liver + two standard deviations (SDs), and mean standard uptake of the liver + three SDs were significantly associated with TRG. Textural parameters from histogram-based and co-occurrence analysis were significantly associated with TRG. However, multivariate analysis revealed that none of these parameters had any significance. On the other hand, MV calculated using various thresholds was significantly associated with 3-year DFS, and MV calculated using a higher threshold tended to be more strongly associated with 3-year DFS. In addition, textural parameters including kurtosis of the absolute gradient (GrKurtosis) were significantly associated with 3-year DFS. Multivariate analysis revealed that GrKurtosis could be a prognostic factor for 3-year DFS.Conclusion
Metabolic and textural parameters from initial [18F]FDG PET/CT scans could be indexes to assess tumour heterogeneity for the prediction of neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy response and recurrence in LARC.79.

Ursolic acid (UA), a type of pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid purified from natural plants, can promote skeletal muscle development. We measured the effect of resistance training (RT) with/without UA on skeletal muscle development and related factors in men. Sixteen healthy male participants (age, 29.37±5.14 years; body mass index=27.13±2.16 kg/m2) were randomly assigned to RT (n=7) or RT with UA (RT+UA, n=9) groups. Both groups completed 8 weeks of intervention consisting of 5 sets of 26 exercises, with 10~15 repetitions at 60~80% of 1 repetition maximum and a 60~90-s rest interval between sets, performed 6 times/week. UA or placebo was orally ingested as 1 capsule 3 times/day for 8 weeks. The following factors were measured pre-and post-intervention: body composition, insulin, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), irisin, and skeletal muscle strength. Body fat percentage was significantly decreased (p<0.001) in the RT+UA group, despite body weight, body mass index, lean body mass, glucose, and insulin levels remaining unchanged. IGF-1 and irisin were significantly increased compared with baseline levels in the RT+UA group (p<0.05). Maximal right and left extension (p<0.01), right flexion (p<0.05), and left flexion (p<0.001) were significantly increased compared with baseline levels in the RT+UA group. These findings suggest that UA-induced elevation of serum irisin may be useful as an agent for the enhancement of skeletal muscle strength during RT. 相似文献
