Purpose
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex anatomic structure with various pathologies as fractures, ankylosis or degenerative diseases. Few animal models already exist and the current study aims at demonstrating that rats’ TMJ could be considered as a model, using anatomic dissection and radiology.Methods
Five adult Wistar rats were dissected to explore the soft and bone anatomy of the TMJ. Five more adult Wistar rats underwent a CT scan to measure size and angles of the condyle.Results
The angles between the condyle and the mandible corpus were observed to be different both in the sagittal plane (150° vs. 125° in human) and the transversal plane (140° vs. 180°). The condyle axis is sagittal and drop-shaped and there is no anterior eminence in rats’ temporal fossa. However, the other anatomic structures proved to be quite similar.Conclusions
The temporomandibular joints in human and rat are close and only few anatomic differences have been reported. Rats thus appear as an interesting and cheap alternative to model TMJ. 相似文献62.

The use of immunoglobulin (Ig) preparations (intravenous, IVIg, subcutaneous, SCIg) for replacement and immunomodulation therapy worldwide has tripled in the past 20 years and represents an ever‐increasing cost factor for healthcare organizations. The limited access to the starting material of this essential medicinal product is currently the driving force for human plasma collection. Increasing awareness and improved diagnosis of human primary immunodeficiencies and a broadening of immunomodulatory indications are responsible for this development, and on a longer run might lead to plasma supply shortages. Consensus recommendations for the optimal use of Ig in clinical practice, including priority rankings for the most urgent indications, are therefore urgently needed. During a recent meeting in Kreuth, Germany, expert nominees from 36 Council of Europe states, together with colleagues from observer countries and regulatory agencies came up with this consensus statement.

The combination of growth hormone (GH) and recombinant erythropoietin (rEPO) is thought to be used particularly in endurance sports. Our objective was to reproduce a 2‐week administration of rEPO microdoses alone or in combination with GH microdoses (three times a week) on healthy and athletic male subjects and to evaluate if GH had any additional effects compared to EPO treatment alone. The effects of the treatments on hematological parameters and VO2max were studied as well as the detection of GH in serum. While the rEPO microdose regimen was associated with a significant increase in reticulocytes, no clear elevation in hemoglobin concentration (HGB) was observed. Using a correction by plasma volume did not reveal more effects of EPO on HGB. Our results did not show any additional effect when the GH microdoses were co‐administered. In addition, no clear increase in VO2max was observed after treatment, with an elevation in only half the subjects in both groups (EPO and EPO+GH). A clear effect of GH on insulin‐like growth factor I (IGF‐I) was seen but it was lower on procollagen III amino‐terminal propeptide (P‐III‐NP). GH detection using the direct isoform test identified only one subject 24 hours after receiving GH. The GH biomarker test combining IGF‐I and P‐III‐NP was not able to detect the GH administration. However, a longitudinal follow‐up of the intraindividual variations showed a significant increase in IGF‐I 24 and 48 hours after GH administration in most subjects, while the effect of GH microdoses on P‐III‐NP was less straightforward. 相似文献

We analyze the behavior of a series of newly synthesized (R-NH3)2PbX4 perovskites and, in particular, discuss the possible reasons which cause their degradation under UV illumination. Experimental results show that the degradation process depends a lot on their molecular components: not only the inorganic part, but also the chemical structure of the organic moieties play an important role in bleaching and photo-chemical reaction processes which tend to destroy perovskites luminescent framework. In addition, we find the spatial arrangement in crystal also influences the photostability course. Following these trends, we propose a plausible mechanism for the photodegradation of the films, and also introduced options for optimized stability. 相似文献

Context: Dietary fibers have been associated with a reduced incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in epidemiological studies; however, the precise mechanisms are unknown. Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and site of action of an insoluble dietary fiber derived from maize (HAM-RS2) in improving insulin resistance in subjects at increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Design: This study was a randomized, controlled crossover, dietary intervention study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Research, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, United Kingdom. Participants: Fifteen men and women with insulin resistance participated in the study. Intervention: The intervention included 40 g/d HAM-RS2 compared with a matched placebo for 8 wk. Main Outcome Measures: After each supplement, participants underwent a two-step hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp study with the addition of glucose tracers; a meal tolerance test; arteriovenous sampling across forearm muscle tissue; and a sc adipose tissue biopsy for assessment of gene expression. Results: There was enhanced uptake of glucose into the forearm muscle measured by arteriovenous sampling (65 ± 15% increase after resistant starch; P < 0.001). Adipose tissue function was also affected, with enhanced fatty acid suppression after HAM-RS2 treatment and an increase in gene expression for hormone sensitive lipase (P = 0.005), perilipin (P = 0.011), lipoprotein lipase (P = 0.014), and adipose triglyceride lipase (P = 0.03) in biopsy samples. There was no effect on the insulin sensitivity of hepatic glucose production or plasma lipids after HAM-RS2. Conclusion: HAM-RS2 improved peripheral but not hepatic insulin resistance and requires further study as an intervention in patients with or at risk for type 2 diabetes. 相似文献

Data on the clinical spectrum and therapeutic management of noninfectious mixed cryoglobulinemia vasculitis (CryoVas) in the era of hepatitis C virus screening are lacking. We analyzed data from 242 patients with noninfectious mixed CryoVas included in the French multicenter CryoVas survey. Baseline manifestations were purpura (75%), peripheral neuropathy (52%), arthralgia or arthritis (44%), glomerulonephritis (35%), cutaneous ulcers (16%), and cutaneous necrosis (14%). A connective tissue disease was diagnosed in 30% and B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 22%, whereas the CryoVas was considered to be essential in 48%. With the use of Cox-marginal structural models, rituximab plus corticosteroids showed the greater therapeutic efficacy compared with corticosteroids alone and alkylating agents plus corticosteroids to achieve complete clinical, renal, and immunologic responses and a prednisone dosage < 10 mg/d at 6 months. However, this regimen was also associated with severe infections, particularly when high doses of corticosteroids were used, whereas death rates did not differ between the therapeutic regimens.
