The levels of soluble CD9 antigen released into spent medium from bone marrow (BM) cells were assayed using a unique enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We demonstrated that a considerable amount of soluble CD9 antigen was consistently detected in the spent medium from CD9+ leukaemic blasts, but little from normal or regenerating BM cells. The sensitivity and specificity of CD9 antigen assay were tested. First, BM cells taken from patients in complete morphologic remission (CR) were studied, and the distinct level of CD9 antigen was detected in 16.3% of the cases. Second, the outcome of leukaemic patients with significant shedding of CD9 antigen from BM cells while in CR was investigated: all patients have developed systemic relapse within 5-24 (median 15.4) weeks. In contrast, 24/34 patients without the increase of CD9 antigen levels are still in CR (follow-up 19-149 weeks, median 56.2 weeks). Only 10 patients in this group have relapsed so far. No false-positive results were detected with this sensitive assay for soluble CD9 antigen, and the introduction of appropriately planned prospective studies is justified on the basis of these observations. 相似文献

Tsukamurella spp. infection is a rare but important cause of bacteremia in immunocompromised patients. The organism is an aerobic, Gram‐positive, weakly acid‐fast bacillus that is difficult to differentiate from other aerobic Actinomycetales by standard laboratory methods. Here, we report on the case of a 14‐year‐old patient with Hodgkin's lymphoma who, after intensive chemotherapy, developed Tsukamurella inchonensis bacteremia, which was identified on the peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) using 16S rRNA sequencing analysis. The bacteremia was successfully controlled with antimicrobial therapy and subsequent removal of the PICC. This is the first report of bacteremia by Tsukamurella inchonensis in immunocompromised children. Careful observation and prompt analysis of opportunistic infection, including Tsukamurella spp., is very important in immunocompromised children. 相似文献

Selective synthesis of particles of angstrom to nanometer size consisting of one to many metal atoms is instrumental in various applications, but it has been hampered by the tendency of the metal atom to form large clusters. We found, as studied by the state-of-the-art electron microscopic technique, a strategy to produce metal-containing nanoparticles isolated from each other by depositing metal atoms in a hydrophilic hole on or in the interior of a carbon nanotube as demonstrated by the reaction of Gd(OAc)(3) with oxidized single-wall nanohorns. Besides the potential utilities of the deposited metal clusters, the metal deposition protocol provides a method to control permeation of molecules through such openings. 相似文献

In this study, we analyzed the internal electric field E and specific absorption rate (SAR) of human biological tissues surrounding an air-core coil transcutaneous energy transmission transformer. Using an electromagnetic simulator, we created a model of human biological tissues consisting of a dry skin, wet skin, fat, muscle, and cortical bone. A primary coil was placed on the surface of the skin, and a secondary coil was located subcutaneously inside the body. The E and SAR values for the model representing a 34-year-old male subject were analyzed using electrical frequencies of 0.3–1.5 MHz. The transmitting power was 15 W, and the load resistance was 38.4 Ω. The results showed that the E values were below the International Commission on Non-ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) limit for the general public exposure between the frequencies of 0.9 and 1.5 MHz, and SAR values were well below the limit prescribed by the ICNIRP for the general public exposure between the frequencies of 0.3 and 1.2 MHz. 相似文献

Objective
To investigate the dosage and imaging conditions for patients undergoing intraoral radiography at Meikai University Hospital and establish assurance and quality control data.Methods
Tube voltage, exposure time, and air kinetic energy released per unit mass (air kerma) of three intraoral radiography units were measured. To calculate the patient entrance dose (PED) for each radiograph using Insight film, we extracted data for 1063 patients from their exposure records. The PED was compared with the diagnostic reference level (DRL) from the European Commission and the UK.Results
The tube voltage of the three units was maintained at 60 ± 2 kV. Differences in exposure time were less than 1.7 % for all units. The air kerma rates were well maintained within a 4.2 % error. Based on the patient data, there were no significant differences in the mean exposure times for males and females for all anatomical sites. The mean PED ranged from 1.09 ± 0.31 mGy for the mandibular incisors to 2.42 ± 0.33 mGy for the maxillary molars. The mean PED at the mandibular molars using InSight film was 1.59 ± 0.20 mGy, being less than the recommended value based on the DRL for intraoral radiography in the UK.Conclusions
We concluded that radiographic conditions at the hospital have been properly maintained. This basic quality control data may assist other dental radiation facilities to reduce patient dosage.999.

A 58-year-old male visited his primary physician for epigastric and back pain. Abdominal-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed a hypovascular pancreatic tumor measuring 17 × 11 mm in the uncinate process of the pancreas extending into the superior mesenteric plexus for greater than 180°. With a diagnosis of unresectable pancreatic cancer, the patient received gemcitabine and TS-1 with arterial infusion of nafamostat mesilate. After 3 courses of chemotherapy, enhanced CT revealed a decrease in size of the pancreatic tumor with no lymph node and distant metastasis and improved invasion of the superior mesenteric plexus down to 120°. The patient underwent R0 pancreaticoduodenectomy. The patient made a satisfactory recovery without complications and was discharged on postoperative day 10. We herein report the first curative resected case of a primarily unresectable pancreatic cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy using gemcitabine, TS-1, and nafamostat mesilate.Key words: Nafamostat mesilate, Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, Unresectable pancreatic cancer, Down-stagingPancreatic cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers worldwide, with an overall 5-year survival rate of only 1 to 4%, because of advanced stage at the time of diagnosis, rapid tumor growth, and high potential for distant metastasis.1 For insufficiency of chemotherapy and radiation against pancreatic cancer, resection rate for primary unresectable pancreatic cancer remains very low.2 We started the phase II trial of gemcitabine and TS-1 in combination with regional arterial infusion of nafamostat mesilate for patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer.
