It has been suggested that human papillomavirus (HPV) could participate in the development of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A higher HPV infection rate has been reported in the NSCLC samples from Asian non-smoker patients, with adenocarcinomas or responders to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKI). We explored a potential relationship between EGFR mutation, response to EGFR-TKI and HPV infection in Western NSCLC patients. We retrospectively analyzed 40 NSCLC samples and the impact of age, gender, histology, tobacco habit and sample type. HPV infection rate was 2.5% and it was not statistically modified by any analyzed variable, although the limited sample size did not provide definitive conclusions. The rate of HPV infection in NSCLC should be studied in patients with EGFR mutations or a tendency towards presenting them.  相似文献

Objective. Coeliac disease (CD), an autoimmune gluten-dependent enteropathy, can be associated with several extra-intestinal manifestations, including neurological disorders. At present, no data are available on the presence of hearing loss disorder in coeliac patients. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of hearing loss in coeliac patients compared with that in healthy controls. Material and methods. Twenty-four adult coeliac patients and 24 healthy subjects matched for gender, age, smoking and drinking habits were enrolled in the study. Among the coeliac patients, 6 were newly diagnosed and 18 patients were on a gluten-free diet for at least one year. Results. A hearing loss was found in 10 (47.1%) coeliac patients and 2 (9.1%) healthy controls. All CD patients with hearing loss presented a sensorineural hearing loss. The prevalence of hearing loss was significantly higher in coeliac patients than in healthy controls (p=0.01) but it was not significantly different between untreated (33.3%) and treated (44.4%) coeliac patients (p: NS). Conclusions. Despite the low number of subjects evaluated, the present study showed a higher prevalence of hearing loss in coeliac patients than in healthy controls, suggesting an association between CD and hearing loss. Immunological processes such as ear-specific and non-specific autoantibodies and vasculitis could be the basis of this association. Further longitudinal investigations on a larger sample size will be necessary to confirm the present data.  相似文献

Body sway and locomotion are differentially modulated in high (highs) and low (lows) hypnotizable subjects undergoing alteration of visual and neck/leg proprioceptive inputs. The study's aim was to investigate whether partial impairment of vestibular information due to backward head extension affects postural (Study 1) and locomotor behavior (Study 2) differentially in highs and lows. Results showed that, at variance with the visual and proprioceptive modalities, vestibular inactivation did not induce major differences between the 2 groups, with the exception of improvement in walking straight across consecutive trials, which was observed only in highs. The article presents an overview of the structures and mechanisms possibly involved in the observed hypnotizability-related differences in motor control and suggests that hypnotic susceptibility might be a relevant factor in neuro-rehabilitative treatments because it accounts for part of the variability in the sensorimotor self.  相似文献

Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is frequently associated with Parkinson's disease (PD) and may anticipate its diagnosis by several years. We assessed the presence of motor dyscontrol during REM sleep in treatment‐naïve PD patients and investigated the putative effect of levodopa (L ‐dopa) treatment on motor activity. Overnight sleep studies were performed on 15 previously untreated PD patients and 14 controls at baseline, again after a 3‐ to 9‐month treatment period with a low dose of L ‐dopa, and 2 to 5 days after treatment discontinuation (in 8 patients). No differences in sleep parameters were observed across groups or treatment conditions. None of the patients met criteria for RBD at baseline, whereas 5 patients were symptomatic at the time of the second sleep study. A quantitative analysis of electromyographic (EMG) activity during REM sleep showed a lower phasic twitching activity in untreated PD than in controls. However, an increase in both phasic twitching and tonic activity was found after treatment with L ‐dopa. Discontinuation of treatment resulted in a return to pretreatment values of phasic but not of tonic EMG activity. Thus, the increase in phasic activity seems to depend on the effects of L ‐dopa, whereas the increase in tonic EMG activity during REM sleep might be caused by other factors such as the progression of disease. Potential implications for the understanding of the relationship between RBD and PD are discussed. © 2002 Movement Disorder Society  相似文献

We performed two-dimensional echocardiograms and determined plasma norepinephrine levels on admission and at 24h after hospitalization, in 16 children with scorpion envenomation. All patients came from areas where scorpions have been identified as Tityus zulianus and received antivenin at the site of the accident or upon admission. Based on the presence or absence of cardiovascular manifestations, patients were divided into two groups. GROUP A: 10 patients had cardiovascular manifestations of pulmonary edema. Four patients had mild pulmonary edema (Left ventricular ejection fraction: 0.43+/-0.19) and six had moderate to severe pulmonary edema (Ejection fraction: 0.31+/-0.09. p=NS, M+/-SD). Plasma norepinephrine was elevated on admission (1279+/-824) and decreased at 24h in seven of eight patients (474+/-140 pg/ml, p<0.03). GROUP B: Six patients had no cardiovascular manifestations. These patients had normal chest X-rays and normal echocardiograms. Plasma norepinephrine was not elevated (188+/-180 pg/ml). Time interval from the accident to antivenin administration was significantly longer in Group A compared to Group B (4.5+/-3.3 vs 1.2+/-0.4h, p<0.03) and correlated directly with the absolute change in plasma norepinephrine (r=0.76, p<001). Consequently, we strongly recommend very early administration of antivenin in the medical management of scorpion envenomation by T. zulianus.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the possible neuroprotective effects of selective cerebral perfusion (SCP) during deep hypothermic circulatory arrest on brain oxygenation and metabolism in newborn piglets. METHODS: Newborn piglets 2-4 days of age, anesthetized and mechanically ventilated, were used for the study. The animals were placed on cardiopulmonary bypass, cooled to 18 degrees C and put on SCP (20 ml/(kg min)) for 90 min. After rewarming, the animals were monitored through 2h of recovery. Oxygen pressure in the microvasculature of the cortex was measured by oxygen-dependent quenching of phosphorescence. The extracellular level of dopamine in striatum was measured by microdialysis and hydroxyl radicals by ortho-tyrosine levels. Levels of phosphorylated cAMP response element binding protein (pCREB) in striatal tissue were measured by Western blots using antibodies specific for phosphorylated CREB. The results are presented as mean+/-SD (p<0.05 was significant). RESULTS: Pre-bypass cortical oxygen pressure was 48.9+/-11.3 mmHg and during the first 5 min of SCP, the peak of the histogram, corrected to 18 degrees C, decreased to 11.2+/-3.8 mmHg (p<0.001) and stayed near that value to the end of bypass. The mean value for the peak of the histograms measured at the end of SCP was 8+/-3 mmHg (p<0.001). SCP completely prevented the deep hypothermic circulatory arrest-dependent increase in extracellular dopamine and hydroxyl radicals. After SCP, there was a statistically significant increase in pCREB immunoreactivity (534+/-60%) compared to the sham-operated group (100+/-63%, p<0.005). Measurements of total CREB showed that SCP did induce a statistically significant increase in CREB as compared to sham-operated animals (168+/-31%, p<0.05). CONCLUSION: SCP, as compared to DHCA, improved cortical oxygenation and prevented increases in the extracellular dopamine and hydroxyl radicals. The increase in pCREB in the striatum following SCP may contribute to improved cellular recovery after this procedure.  相似文献
