The Intraneural Hemangioma of the Digital Nerve: Case Report

Intraneural Hemangioma of the digital nerve is rare and so far three cases have been reported in the literature. We present a case of 12- year- old boy with painless soft tissue mass in the right hand and numbness on the radial aspect of the index finger. Magnetic Resonance Imaging showed an isointense subcutaneous lesion without discrete borders in the first web space classically of hemangioma with the radial digital nerve extension. On exploration, the intraneural extension of the hemangioma was confirmed and total resection, microsurgical primary digital nerve repair was done. The patient became better and at 6 months follow up the index finger sensation improved. The patient had no reccurence and he is still under follow up.     

New nanodrug design for cancer therapy: Its synthesis,formulation, in vitro and in silico evaluations

The aim of this study was to develop a novel nanosize drug candidate for cancer therapy. For this purpose, (S)-methyl 2-[(7-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-phenyl-2H-chromen-8-yl)methyleneamino]-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoate (ND3) was synthesized by the condensation reaction of 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-phenylcoumarin with l -tryptophan methyl ester. Its controlled release formulation was prepared and characterized by different spectroscopic and imaging methods. The cytotoxic effects of ND3 and its controlled release formulation were evaluated against MCF-7 and A549 cancer cell lines, and it was found that both of them have a toxic effect on cancer cells. For drug design and process development, the molecular docking analysis technique helps to clarify the effects of some DNA-targeted anticancer drugs to determine the interaction mechanisms of these drugs on DNA in a shorter time and at a lower cost. By using the molecular docking analysis and DNA binding assays, the interaction between the synthesized compound and DNA was elucidated and non-binding interactions were also determined. To predict the pharmacokinetics, and thereby accelerate drug discovery, the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity values of the synthesized compound were determined by in silico methods.     

Protective effect of syringic acid on kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury

The objective of the present study was to determine whether preischemic administration of syringic acid (SA) would attenuate renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). Rats were divided into three groups: Sham group; IR group; and IR?+?SA group. The effects of SA were examined using biochemical parameters including serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI), tissue superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA). The apoptosis status and histopathological changes were evaluated. After calculating the score for each histopathological change, the total score was obtained by summing all the scores. In the SA group, MDA, IMA, TOS, and OSI decreased significantly compared to the IR group. After SA administration, the increase in GPx activity was found to be significant. Apoptosis decreased significantly in the SA group compared with the IR group. The total score significantly decreased after administration of SA. Taken together, our findings suggest that SA preconditioning is effective in reducing tissue damage induced in kidney IRI. Renal histology also showed convincing evidence regarding the protective nature of SA.     

Risperidone,quetiapine and chlorpromazine may have induced priapism in an adolescent

Priapism is the prolonged, painful erection of penile tissue not accompanied by sexual arousal. Priapism has been established as a rare adverse drug reaction to drugs such as antipsychotics, psychostimulants, antidepressants, and mood stabilizers. Immediate intervention is needed to prevent destructive and irreversible complications, such as erectile dysfunction, disfigurement, inability of the penis to stay erect, and related social/emotional problems. Antipsychotic‐induced priapism may result from the alpha receptor occupancy property of those drugs. We report the case of a 13‐year‐old suffering from attention deficit–hyperactivity disorder plus conduct disorder with priapism related to antipsychotics. Episodes occurred with risperidone plus methylphenidate, quetiapine plus methylphenidate, and chlorpromazine alone.
