The effects of solvent on the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the selective adsorption of quinoline were evaluated in this work. The MIPs were synthesized by the “bulk” method using the quinoline molecule (IQ) as a template in different solvents, such as toluene (MIPT) and chloroform (MIPC). The adsorbents were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements. The influences of time, adsorbate concentration, and temperature on the adsorption of quinoline by MIPT and MIPC were evaluated. Maximum adsorption capacities (qe) of 35.23 and 24.10 mg g−1 were obtained for MIPT and MIPC, respectively. Thermodynamic studies indicate that occur physisorption and a spontaneous process (ΔadsG° < 0) entropically directed. Finally, the highest selectivity and reusability of MIPC for quinoline adsorption was ascribed to the better interaction between the chloroform and monomer, which favors the formation of porous adsorbents with higher numbers of adsorption sites.Molecularly imprinted polymers synthesized by a one-pot synthesis absorb quinoline efficiently and selectively. 相似文献

BackgroundHeart Failure with mid-range Ejection Fraction (HFmEF) was recently described by European and Brazilian guidelines on Heart Failure (HF). The ejection fraction (EF) is an important parameter to guide therapy and prognosis. Studies have shown conflicting results without representative data from developing countries.ObjectiveTo analyze and compare survival rate in patients with HFmEF, HF patients with reduced EF (HFrEF), and HF patients with preserved EF (HFpEF), and to evaluate the clinical characteristics of these patients.MethodsA cohort study that included adult patients with acute HF admitted through the emergency department to a tertiary hospital, reference in cardiology, in south Brazil from 2009 to 2011. The sample was divided into three groups according to EF: reduced, mid-range and preserved. A Kaplan-Meier curve was analyzed according to the EF, and a logistic regression analysis was done. Statistical significance was established as p < 0.05.ResultsA total of 380 patients were analyzed. Most patients had HFpEF (51%), followed by patients with HFrEF (32%) and HFmEF (17%). Patients with HFmEF showed intermediate characteristics related to age, blood pressure and ventricular diameters, and most patients were of ischemic etiology. Median follow-up time was 4.0 years. There was no statistical difference in overall survival or cardiovascular mortality (p=.0031) between the EF groups (reduced EF: 40.5% mortality; mid-range EF 39.7% and preserved EF 26%). Hospital mortality was 7.6%.ConclusionThere was no difference in overall survival rate between the EF groups. Isolated mitochondrial complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase) deficiency is an important cause of mitochondrial disease in children and adults. It is genetically heterogeneous, given that both mtDNA-encoded and nuclear-encoded gene products contribute to structural components and assembly factors. Pathogenic variants within these proteins are associated with clinical variability ranging from isolated organ involvement to multisystem disease presentations. Defects in more than 10 complex IV assembly factors have been described including a recent Lebanese founder mutation in PET100 in patients presenting with Leigh syndrome. We report the clinical and molecular investigation of a patient with a fatal, neonatal-onset isolated complex IV deficiency associated with multiorgan involvement born to consanguineous, first-cousin British Asian parents. Exome sequencing revealed a homozygous truncating variant (c.142C>T, p.(Gln48*)) in the PET100 gene that results in a complete loss of enzyme activity and assembly of the holocomplex. Our report confirms PET100 mutation as an important cause of isolated complex IV deficiency outside of the Lebanese population, extending the phenotypic spectrum associated with abnormalities within this gene. 相似文献

We previously reported the association of the major histocompatibility complex class II HLA-DQB1*0201 allele with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytokine responses of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and the serum levels of immunoglobulin isotypes. The study population was selected from a schistosomiasis endemic area. No significant differences in cytokine profiles were detected in PBMCs stimulated with Schistosoma mansoni soluble egg antigen (SEA), regardless of the subjects DQB1*0201 genotype or infection status. Long-term bone marrow cultures (LTBMC) from patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and normal donors were analyzed for immunophenotype and cytokine production. Both LTBMC adherent cells from myeloma and normal donor origin expressed CD10, CD13, the adhesion molecules CD44, CD54, vascular cell adhesion molecule 1, very late antigen 2 (VLA-2), and VLA- 5, and were positive for extracellular matrix components fibronectin, laminin, and collagen types 3 and 4. LTBMC from myeloma patients and normal donors spontaneously secreted interleukin-6 (IL-6). However, levels of IL-6 correlated with the stage of disease; highest levels of IL-6 were found in LTBMC from patients with active myeloma. To identify the origin of IL-6 production, LTBMC from MM patients and normal donors were cocultured with BM-derived myeloma cells and cells from myeloma cell lines. IL-6 was induced by plasma cell lines that adhered to LTBMC such as ARH-77 and RPMI-8226, but not by nonadhering cell lines U266 and FRAVEL. Myeloma cells strongly stimulated IL-6 secretion in cocultures with LTBMC adherent cells from normal donors and myeloma patients. When direct cellular contact between LTBMC and plasma cells was prevented by tissue-culture inserts, no IL-6 production was induced. This implies that intimate cell-cell contact is a prerequisite for IL-6 induction. Binding of purified myeloma cells to LTBMC adherent cells was partly inhibited by monoclonal antibodies against adhesion molecules VLA-4, CD44, and lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1) present on the plasma cell. Antibodies against VLA-4, CD29, and LFA-1 also inhibited the induced IL-6 secretion in plasma cell-LTBMC cocultures. In situ hybridization studies performed before and after coculture with plasma cells indicated that LTBMC adherent cells produce the IL-6. These results suggest that the high levels of IL-6 found in LTBMC of MM patients with active disease are a reflection of their previous contact with tumor cells in vivo. These results provide a new perspective on tumor growth in MM and emphasize the importance of plasma cell-LTBMC interaction in the pathophysiology of MM. 相似文献

Background
The hammock positioning within the incubators simulates the intrauterine environment, however, there is little evidence of its benefits and possible risks.Objectives
The aim of this study was to assess the effects of hammock positioning on behavioral status, vital signs, and pain in very low birth weight preterm newborns.Methods
This is a quasi-experimental/case series study in which premature infants (<1500 g) were positioned in supine for one hour in a hammock. The preterm newborns were assessed 10 min before, during (2, 20, 40, and 60 min), and 10 min after hammock positioning with the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale, vital signs and pain by the Neonatal Facial Coding System.Results
28 preterm infants between 28 and 36 weeks of gestational age were evaluated. Regarding the behavioral state, the preterm newborns progressively evolved to light or deep sleep during hammock positioning. There was a statistically significant reduction of the heart and respiratory rate from 2 to 60th minute in a hammock, which was maintained after the positioning. The oxygen saturation remained within normal values. No changes in pain scores were observed.Conclusion
The hammock positioning can be considered a safe method of positioning that can be used to reduce the stress levels in very low birth weight preterm newborns. We did not observe worsening in either pain or vital signs. 相似文献49.

To investigate the relationship of carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and cardiac structure and function with adipocytokines in sedentary (S-SCI) and physically active (PA-SCI) subjects with spinal cord injury (SCI).Design

Men with chronic (>1y) SCI (N=41; 16 S-SCI, 25 PA-SCI) were evaluated. S-SCI subjects did not perform labor that required physical effort, recreational physical activity, or sports, while PA-SCI subjects included competing athletes who were regularly performing adapted sports.Interventions

Clinical, laboratory, carotid ultrasonography, and echocardiography analysis. Plasma leptin, adiponectin, and plasminogen activating inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) levels were determined.Results
PA-SCI subjects had similar levels of adipocytokines, but lower carotid IMT and carotid IMT/diameter, and better left ventricular diastolic function than S-SCI participants. Bivariate analysis showed that adiponectin was inversely correlated with triglycerides (r=–.85, P<.001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r=–.57, P<.05), and carotid IMT/diameter (r=–.56, P<.05) in S-SCI but not in PA-SCI participants. Additionally, the leptin-adiponectin ratio showed a direct correlation with triglycerides (r=.84, P<.001) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r=.53, P<.05) in S-SCI but not in PA-SCI individuals. By contrast, the studied adipocytokines did not correlate with cardiac structure and function in PA-SCI and S-SCI participants.Conclusions
Lower adiponectin levels and higher leptin-adiponectin ratio are related to adverse vascular and/or metabolic characteristics in individuals with SCI. This relationship, however, appears to be mitigated by regular physical activity. 相似文献50.
