Abstract The aim of the present study was to determine by standard cultivation procedures the detection frequencies of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Fusobacterium nucleatum. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Bacteroides forsythus, and Capnocytophaga species as well as various enteric rods in subgingival plaque samples form Romanian adult periodontitis patients. DNA probe analysis (AffirmTM DP Microbial Identification Test) was also used, parallel to cultivation, to identify P. gingivalis. A. actinomycetemcomitans, and B. for- sythus, in deep (≥6 mm) and intermediate (4–5 mm) pockets in some of the subjects investigated. Paper points were used to sample 86 deep pockets in 36 patients and 27 intermediate pockets in 9 of the 36 patients. The x2 test was used to test for significance of differences between results obtained by cultivation and DMA analysis in both intermediate and deep pockets. P. gingivalis was recovered in a high percentage of the patients (75,8%) and sites (63.6%) examined, followed by P. intermedia, F. nucleatum, and A. actinomycetemcomitans, respectively. Capnocytophaga species were present in almost all subjects. Enteric rods were recovered in 61.1% of the patients and 55.8% of the sites. Except for this high prevalence of enteric rods, the present group of patients had the periodontal species monitored in %s similar to those commonly perceived in the West. The Affirm M DP Test and cultivation showed poor correlation in detecting P. gingivalis. A. actinomycetemcomitans, and B. forsythus. The cultivation prevalence of P. gingivalis and P. intermedia in deep pockets was similar to their prevalence in intermediate ones. Overall, the prevalence of the periodontal pathogens investigated in the present Romanian periodontitis patients is similar to what has been revealed in matching Norwegian and other Western periodontitis patient populations. The high prevalence of enteric rods in the Romanian patients may have been an artifact resulting from prolonged transport of the samples in VMGA III.  相似文献

This study compared the temperature increase in a pulp chamber as a result of using various light-curing units during resin composite polymerization, and it determined the effect of remaining dentin thickness on temperature rise. A Class II occlusodistal cavity with a remaining dentin thickness of 2 mm was prepared in an extracted human mandibular molar. A 2-mm layer of fine hybrid resin composite was placed on the floor of the proximal box. A K-type thermocouple was inserted into pulp chambers filled with heat sink compound, and pulp chamber temperature rise (starting temperature: 37.0 +/- 0.1 degrees C) during polymerization of the composite was measured. The light-curing units tested included two halogen lights, Spectrum 800 and Elipar Trilight (Standard and Exponential mode); a light-emitting diode (LED, Elipar Freelight) and a plasma arc (Virtuoso, Xenon Power Arc). Irradiation time was 40 seconds for the halogen and LED lights and 3 seconds for the plasma arc light. Five measurements were carried out for every light-curing unit. The same experimental design was conducted after the cavity preparation was modified, leaving a 1-mm thick dentin layer. The Kruskal-Wallis and multiple comparison tests were used to evaluate the differences among the tested curing units. Mann Whitney-U tests were used to compare the mean temperature rise in each curing unit for different remaining dentin thicknesses. The increase in pulp chamber temperature ranged between 1.40-3.8 degrees C. The highest temperature rise was observed when using Elipar Trilight Standard mode, and the lowest temperature rise was observed with light emitting diode for both remaining dentin thicknesses. The only significant differences in temperature rise were observed between Elipar Trilight Standard mode and LED. No significant difference (p > 0.01) existed for the different modes of Elipar Trilight. A statistically significant higher temperature rise was observed within each curing unit at a depth of 1 mm compared to 2 mm. Although the tested light-curing units caused a temperature rise in the pulp chamber, none exceed the critical value of 5.5 degrees C.  相似文献

AIM: One of the critical aspects of esthetic dentistry is creating geometric or mathematical proportions to relate the successive widths of the anterior teeth. The golden proportion, the recurring esthetic dental (RED) proportion, and the golden percentage are theories introduced in this field. The aim of this study was to investigate the existence of the golden proportion, RED proportion, and the golden percentage between the widths of the maxillary anterior teeth in individuals with natural dentition. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Standardized frontal images of 376 dental student smiles were captured. The images were transferred to a personal computer, the widths of the maxillary anterior teeth were measured, and calculations were made according to each of the above mentioned theories. The data were statistically analyzed using paired student T-test (level of significance P<0.05). RESULTS: The golden proportion was found to be accurate between the width of the right central and lateral incisors in 31.3% of men and 27.1% of women. The values of the RED proportion were not constant, and the farther the one moves distally from the midline the higher the values. Furthermore, the results revealed the golden percentage was rather constant in terms of relative tooth width. The width of the central incisor represents 23%, the lateral incisor 15%, and the canine 12% of the width of the six maxillary anterior teeth as viewed from the front. CONCLUSIONS: Both the golden proportion and the RED proportion are unsuitable methods to relate the successive widths of the maxillary anterior teeth. However, the golden percentage theory seems to be applicable to relate the successive widths of the maxillary anterior teeth if percentages are adjusted taking into consideration the ethnicity of the population.  相似文献

The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate two commonly used gutta-percha solvents for their effectiveness in dissolving several types of root canal sealers. Seven different sealers (AH26, AH Plus, Diaket, Roekoseal, Sankin Apatite Root Sealer, Sealapex, and Sultan U/P) were used in this study. After mixing according to the manufacturers' directions, each material was syringed into 30 glass capillary tubes, and a total of 210 tubes were placed in a humidifier at 37 degrees C for one week to allow the materials to set completely. Each group of 30 tubes, obturated with one type of sealer, was then randomly divided into three subgroups, including 10 tubes each. Chloroform was used in the first ten tubes from each sealer group. Halothane was used for the second group. In the last group, the sealer was removed with files, without using any solvent. The time necessary to pass a file through to the end of the tube was recorded for each sample in seconds. Results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance. Sealapex did not set at all unless in contact with air. Roekoseal did not adhere to the glass capillary tubes, and was therefore easily removed from the tube in all samples. AH26 and AH Plus root canal sealers tightly adhered to the tube walls, so none of the techniques were effective in removing them from the tubes within 30 min. Diaket root canal sealer was easily removed using solvents (P < 0.05). There was no advantage in using solvents to remove Sankin Apatite Root Sealer (P > 0.05). Solvents were found to be very effective in dissolving the Sultan U/P root canal sealer (P < 0.05).  相似文献

The aim of this double-blind, controlled crossover study was to evaluate the influence of food preservatives on in situ dental biofilm growth. Twenty-four volunteers wore appliances with six specimens each of bovine enamel to build up intra-oral biofilms. During three test cycles, the subjects had to put one half of the appliance twice a day in one of the assigned active solutions (0.1% benzoate, BA; 0.1% sorbate, SA or 0.2% chlorhexidine, CHX) and the other into NaCl. After 5 days, the developed biofilms were stained with two fluorescent dyes to visualise vital (green) and dead bacteria (red). Biofilms were scanned by confocal laser scanning microscopy and biofilm thickness (BT) and bacterial vitality (BV%) were calculated. After a washout period of 7 days, a new test cycle was started. The use of SA, BA and CHX resulted in a significantly reduced BT and BV compared to NaCl (p < 0.001). Differences between SA and BA were not significant (p > 0.05) for both parameters, while CHX showed significantly lower values. Both preservatives showed antibacterial and plaque-inhibiting properties, but not to the extent of CHX. The biofilm model enabled the examination of undisturbed oral biofilm formation influenced by antibacterial components under clinical conditions.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Following open reduction, internal fixation of fractures of the mandible is predominantly achieved using plates and screws. Today, a multitude of osteosynthesis systems are available on the market. One therapy modality, primarily developed for orthopaedic surgery, is using angular stable osteosynthesis plate systems. The dominating principle of these is the bond between screw and plate following insertion. This principle of an "internal fixateur" results in a more stable fixation of the fragments associated with less compression of the bone surfaces. MATERIAL: A new multidirectional osteosynthesis system (TiFix=Smartlock, Hamburg - Germany) was modified to fit the maxillofacial region and compared with four other well established osteosynthesis systems developed by Mondial, Medicon, Synthes, Leibinger-Stryker, one of these (Unilock by Synthes) being also angular stable. The resistance to deformation in varying directions was investigated following fixation in four different materials. RESULTS: The TiFix system proved more resistant to deformation even when mounted with fewer screws than the non-angular stable systems. CONCLUSION: This system results in greater stability even when fewer screws are used. For the clinician this means smaller access incisions, less soft tissue trauma, better aesthetic results, decreased duration of operation and a reduction of costs.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) on bone remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty adult male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly categorized into five groups. IFN-gamma was administered in three different doses (0.01, 0.02, and 0.05 microg/20 microL) and the remaining two groups served as control. Mandibular first molars were moved mesially by means of Ni-Ti closed coil springs in all groups. The results were evaluated histomorphometrically, and parameters of trabecular bone volume (BV/TV), trabecular bone number (Tr.N), and trabecular separation (Tr.Sep) were observed at the interradicular bone area of the mandibular first molars. RESULTS: Increases in BV/TV and Tr.N and decreases in Tr.Sep revealed the antiosteoclastic activity of IFN-gamma. CONCLUSION: IFN-gamma administration may be useful clinically for anchorage control.  相似文献

In LeFort I surgery, the separation of the pterygomaxillary junction is done by osteotomy. Although the osteotome is positioned too close to the maxillary artery and its branches during pterygomaxillary separation, postoperative complications from vascular injuries are uncommon. We describe an unusual occurrence of a maxillary artery pseudoaneurysm after LeFort I and bilateral sagittal split osteotomies for maxillary advancement and mandibular setback as well as (anterior sliding) genioplasty. In a patient with class III occlusion and midface retrusion, the significant bleeding began 10 days postoperatively, which was controlled by anterior and posterior nasal packing. The bleeding recurred 28 days after surgery; thus, vascular anatomy in the pterygomaxillary area is reviewed, pseudoaneurysm was diagnosed on selective carotid angiography and successfully treated by embolization; and 2-year follow up was uneventful.  相似文献
