Eight patients with skin damage due to contact with an amine are described. The material is used in the potash industry under the commercial name of Armine to prevent bosselation. Although it is considered to be a strong base, no deep burns were encountered. The reaction to this material initially resembled a dermatitis; later the wound developed the typical appearance of a burn. In addition to the common conservative treatment, antihistamine drugs were used. When a true allergic reaction was suspected steroids were added to the regimen. 相似文献

Erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase (GPX) levels were determined in 56 asthmatic children. Lowest levels were found during acute asthmatic attack (13.53 +/- 2.94 IU) which were significantly less than controls (20.4 +/- 5.44 IU) (P less than .001). Post-attack levels 1 week later rose significantly (16.77 +/- 2.63 IU), but were still less than normal values (P = .001). GPX levels (16.96 +/- 3.28 IU) were less than controls (P less than .03) even in patients with mild symptomatology. Asymptomatic patients receiving theophylline had normal levels. Low GPX activity in asthmatic patients may play a role in the pathogenesis of the disease. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the pronostic factors of the vulvar cancer. STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective study, of 35 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva diagnosed and treated at Farhat Hached Hospital (Sousse) between January 1991 and December 2002. The study of the pronostic factors is based on analysis of the following parameters obtained after a period varyinf from 6 months to 5 years: clinical data, pre-therapeutique and therapeutic evaluation, pathologic data, outcome and survival rate. RESULTS: The diagnostic was often late with a delay for consultation superior to 6 months in 60% of cases. 80% of the patient wete in stages III and IV of FIGO with an average tumorous size of 3.8 cm and palpable lymph node in 74.2% of the cases. 22 patient underwent vulvectomy with bilateral inguinal node dissection. Adjuvant therapy was carried out in 8 cases. The rate of relapses was 22.7%. The global survival at 5 years of the operated patients was of 40%. The main prognostic factors were: the size tumorale, the degrees of stromal invasion and the lymph node invasion. CONCLUSION: Early detection fo vulvar concer by regular gynecologic examinations and a biopsy of all suspect lesions, allows an early treatment consequently a better prognosis. 相似文献

This study investigated the effect of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in ambient air on hospital admissions and emergency room (ER) visits among young children (0-3 yr) residing in 4 communities in southern Israel, within an area 5-25 km from the 2 power plants, which operate within 25 km of each other. Daily records of hospitalizations and ER visits for respiratory diseases at the 3 hospitals serving the region were examined for 9 mo, October 1, 2000-June 30, 2001. Mean PM2.5 concentrations for the four communities ranged from 11.6 to 28.1 microg/m3. Time series analysis revealed a statistically significant association (p < 0.05) between the numbers of hospitalizations and ER visits for respiratory symptoms and concentrations of PM2.5. This effect was evaluated for 0-3 lag days, directly, and for interactions with temperatures and seasonal parameters. The respiratory health of young children may be affected by 24 hr concentrations of PM2.5 < 60 microg/m3, the threshold proposed by both Israel and the United States. 相似文献

Purpose. Biodegradable poly(isobutylcyanoacrylate) nanocapsules have been recognized as a promising carrier for oral administration of peptides and proteins. In the present study, we investigate the fate of insulin-loaded nanocapsules by fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) after intragastric force-feeding to rats.
Methods. Insulin-, Texas-red®-labeled insulin, or gold-labeled insulin-loaded nanocapsules were first characterized. Rats received a single dose of nanocapsules (diameter 60-300 nm, 57 IU insulin/kg) by intragastric force-feeding. After 90 min, ileum was isolated and prepared for fluorescence and transmission electron microscopy.
Results. Nanocapsules were observed on both sides of the gut epithelium and in blood capillaries. In M-cell-free epithelium, apparently intact nanocapsules could be seen in the underlying tissue, suggesting they could cross the epithelium and carry the encapsulated peptide. In M-cell-containing epithelium, nanocapsules appeared degraded in the vicinity of macrophages. It is noteworthy that intestinal absorption of nanocapsules was observed without artifacts forcing the nanocapsules to stay in the gut.
Conclusions. Based on TEM observations, this study shows the intestinal absorption of biodegradable nanocapsules leading to the transport of insulin across the epithelium mucosa. The fate of the nanocapsules appeared different depending on the presence or the absence of M cells in the intestinal epithelium. 相似文献
