Influence of host age on lung colony forming capacity of injected rat rhabdomyosarcoma cells

Intravenous administration of RA-2 transplantable rhabdomyosarcoma cells produces development of metastatic tumour cell colonies in the lungs of host rats. After administration of 2 X 10(3), 5 X 10(3) or 10 X 10(3) RA-2 cells, different patterns of dependence of the number of metastatic clones in the lungs on injected cell number have been observed. The numbers of tumour cell colonies were shown to be highest in immature (1-month-old) and old (15-month-old) female rats compared to middle-age groups (3- and 12-month-old). A similar age-related pattern was observed in male rats. Analysis of the results obtained has revealed positive correlation between tumour cell colony numbers and both somatomedin activity and proliferation rate of neoplastic tissue.     

Investigation of filtration of cultural liquids on vacuum filters with renewable deposited layer

Conclusions The filtration of a cultural liquid with vacuum drum filters with deposited layers yields good indices only in the case of sufficiently effective pretreatment of the cultural liquid.It can be recommended to take 1 rpm as the optimum speed of rotation of the drum.Translated from Khimiko-Farmatsevticheskii Zhurnal, No. 10, pp. 50–54, October, 1968.     

A study of some components of the serotoninergic system in psychopathic subjects during depression

It is shown that the platelet serotonin level and the maximum rate of uptake of labeled serotonin by platelets in the groups of patients with anxious-depressive and depressive-hysterical syndromes is markedly higher than in the control (patients with psychopathy without signs of depression) and in the group with the asthenodepressive syndrome. In all groups of patients with depressions the excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid is reduced as compared to the control. Discovery and evaluation of biphenyl derivatives of 2-iminobenzimidazoles as prototype dual PTP1B inhibitors and AMPK activators with in vivo antidiabetic activity

This work describes the synthesis of series hydrobromides of N-(4-biphenyl)methyl–N′-dialkylaminoethyl-2-iminobenzimidazoles, which, due to the presence of two privileged structural fragments (benzimidazole and biphenyl moieties), can be considered as bi-privileged structures. Compound 7a proved to activate AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) and simultaneously inhibit protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) with similar potency. This renders it an interesting prototype of potential antidiabetic agents with a dual-target mechanism of action. Using prove of concept in vivo study, we show that dual-targeting compound 7a has a disease-modifying effect in a rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus via improving insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism.
