Das Bewegungszentrum in der Lendenwirbels?ule bei Flexion und Extension

Zusammenfassung In zwei lumbalen Segmenten hat man mit der Tomographie die Lage der Bewegungsachse bei Flexion und Extension bestimmt. Es wurde gefunden, daß die Achse im Anschluß an die Bandscheibe liegen kann, aber in der Mehrzahl der Fälle lag die Achse auf bedeutendem Abstand von ihr und immer unterhalb dieser Bandscheibe. In extremen Fällen sah man, daß die Bewegungsachse durch die nächst unterhalb liegende Bandscheibe ging.

Motion centre in flexion and extension of the lumbar spine

Summary The location of the axis of movement between the vertebrae in two lumbar segments was determined by means of tomography in flexion and extension. It was found that the axis may be situated in the disc or in its immediate vicinity but in the majority of cases it lay outside the disc at considerable distances from it. Then it was always below the disc. In extreme cases the axis was seen to pass through the intervertebral disc of the segment below.

Abstract The new sulphonylurea CS 476 does not potentiate the effect of insulin on plasma glucose levels in diabetic dogs in which an oral glucose load does not cause insulin release. In normal dogs propranolol 0.3 mg/kg intravenously inhibites the insulin release and the hypoglycaemia due to CS 476 suggesting involvement of β-adrenergic receptors in its action on the pancreas. Pretreatment of dogs with phentolamine leads to an augmentation of the insulin response to CS 476.     

Electromyographic signs of neurogenic involvement in hypokalemic paralysis as a result of diuretic abuse

A female is reported, which showed motor and sensory disturbances following severe hypokalemia induced by abuse of diuretics. Elevated CSF-protein and abnormal neurographic findings with restitution after substitution with potassium led to the diagnosis of a neurogenic involvement like a Guillain-Barré syndrome. In the literature similar cases are described. So it seems, that beside of myopathic changes neurogenic disturbances can appear as a neurological symptom of hypokalemia.     

A clinical study using a new ultra-violet light polymerized fissure sealant

A new ultra-violet light polymerized fissure sealant was subjected to clinical trial in 177 permanent premolar and molar teeth over a mean period of 15.4 months. Of the pits and fissures, 33.7 per cent remained fully covered with sealant throughout the study period. Re-application of sealant to uncovered pits and fissures during the trial appeared to increase adhesion of the material. A significant reduction of caries was observed in the treated teeth.
