Summary: A survey of the medical records and renal biopsy reports of 41 patients with a diagnosis of membranous glomerulonephritis seen at the University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo was undertaken between 1961 and April 1992. Twenty-three of these patients were found to have idiopathic membranous glomerulonephritis (IMG) and 22 of them were treated with corticosteroids and/or immunosuppressants. Data for these 22 patients showed that the age at clinical presentation was 36.3± 17.5 years, white skin colour predominated (14 patients), and 15 were males; nephrotic syndrome was the clinical presentation in 20 patients and proteinuria was accidentally discovered in two patients. On the first hospital visit 11 patients presented proteinuria of up to 3 g/24 h and 16 presented serum creatinine below 1.5 mg/dL, and 14 developed renal hypertension during follow up. Clinicalmorphological correlation permitted us to conclude (in agreement with the literature) that advanced patient age, intensity of proteinuria, serum creatinine levels above 1.5 mg/dL on the occasion of the first hospital visit, and arterial hypertension are clinical-laboratory factors indicating a poor prognosis for IMG. More advanced staging of glomerular damage, presence of segmental mesangial sclerosis and tubulointerstitial involvement are microscopic factors indicating a poor prognosis for IMG. 相似文献
Y zeolites with different sodium contents and a sodium mordenite were evaluated as support for bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride as catalyst for ethylene polymerization. The results showed that, although the activities of the supported catalysts were lower than that of the homogeneous system, the average molecular weight of the polyethylene produced from the former was in general much higher than that of the polymer produced in solution. Contrary to the expected trend if the specific area was the dominant factor for catalyst activity, the best catalyst was the one supported on NaM zeolite. Thus, our results indicate that the concentration of framework aluminium atoms is the dominant factor, but that the contribution of the external surface is also important. 相似文献
OBJECTIVE: The changes in fatigue resistance of nickel-titanium rotary ProFile instruments after clinical use for shaping 10 curved molar root canals were evaluated in this study. STUDY DESIGN: Twenty-five sets of files #20, #25, and #30 and tapers .04 and .06 were divided into 2 groups, one with 10 sets of new files that were tested in a fatigue test bench device as a control. The other, experimental group, with 15 sets of clinically used files, was tested in the same device. The Student t test was employed to compare mean values of the measured parameters. RESULTS: A statistically significant decrease in the number of cycles to failure was determined for the clinically used files, as compared with the new ones. The fracture point was the same for all files tested. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical use of ProFile instruments for shaping curved canals reduces their fatigue resistance. 相似文献
Early during rat thymus ontogeny, an important proportion of thymocytes
expresses IL-2R and contains IL-2 mRNA. To investigate the role of the
IL-2-IL-2R complex in rat T cell maturation, we supplied either recombinant
rat IL-2 or blocking anti-CD25 mAb to rat fetal thymus organ cultures
(FTOC) under several experimental conditions. The IL-2 treatment initially
stimulated the growth of thymocytes and, as a result, induced T cell
differentiation, but the continuous addition of IL-2 to rat FTOC, as well
as the anti-CD25 administration, resulted in cell number decrease and
inhibition of thymocyte maturation. These results indicate that immature
rat thymocytes bear functional high- affinity IL-2R and that IL-2 promotes
T cell differentiation as a consequence of its capacity to stimulate cell
proliferation. Modifications in TCR alpha beta repertoire and increased
numbers of NKR- P1+ cells, largely NK cells, were also observed in
IL-2-treated FTOC. Furthermore, IL-2-responsiveness of different thymocyte
subsets changed throughout thymic ontogeny. Immature CD4-CD8-cells
responded to IL-2 in two stages, early in thymus development and around
birth, in correlation with the maturation of two distinct waves of thymic
cell progenitors. Mature CD8+ thymocytes maximally responded to IL-2 around
birth, supporting a role for IL-2 in the increased proliferation of mature
thymocytes observed in vivo in the perinatal period. Taken together, these
findings support a role for IL-2 in rat T cell development.

Background. A major concern in evaluating dynamic cardiomyoplasty has been whether the synchronous stimulation of latissimus dorsi muscle is essential for benefit or not. We studied 10 patients to determine the efficacy of the systolic augmentation generated by the synchronous electrical stimulation of the latissimus dorsi muscle.
Methods. Left ventricular ejection fraction, end-systolic and end-diastolic volume indexes, and stroke volume index obtained during resting, peak exercise, and recovery periods (“on” values) were compared with those obtained 1 week after cessation of electrical stimulus (“off” values). Double product and estimated total body oxygen consumption at peak exercise were also calculated and compared.
Results. Higher ejection fractions (0.36 ± 0.07 versus 0.33 ± 0.06 at rest, 0.40 ± 0.07 versus 0.33 ± 0.07 peak exercise, and 0.37 ± 0.06 versus 0.31 ± 0.06 at recovery) and lower end-systolic volume indexes with relatively constant end-diastolic volume indexes were observed with the cardiomyostimulator on. Further, exercise response was better with the cardiomyostimulator on. Double product indirectly reflected better myocardial oxygen supply/demand ratio when on at peak exercise (17 ± 2.2 mm Hg × beats/min × 10−3 for on versus 19 ± 2.6 mm Hg × beats/min × 10−3 for off). Estimated total body oxygen consumption was improved at peak exercise when the cardiomyostimulator was functional (12 ± 2.7 mL · kg−1 · min−1 versus 11 ± 2.6 mL · kg−1 · min−1).
Conclusions. Current data suggest a true systolic assist during synchronous contractions of the latissimus dorsi muscle. It is thought, therefore, that synchronous electrical stimulation is essential for maximum benefit and all the beneficial effect of cardiomyoplasty certainly cannot be attributed to simple wrapping itself. 相似文献
In order to know the distributional patterns of Basommatophoran snails in the state of S?o Paulo (Brazil), 85 "counties" in the area of S. José do Rio Preto were worked out during seven months (1982). Snails from 286 breeding places were collected and identified. Biomphalaria straminea, an intermediate host of S. mansoni, was found in four little ponds, in the neighbourhood of Altair and S. José do Rio Preto. It was concluded that schistosomiasis has little chance to spread out in the studied area. 相似文献
