Background  

Surgical wound infection (SWI) is a common complication after peripheral vascular surgery. Infections increase morbidity and costs of treatment. Vector quantization (VQ) is a well-known lossy compression method, which has not often been applied to biosignals. In this paper, VQ and its mean residual variant for encoding and decoding electromyography (EMG) signals have been tested. The methods are selected in such a way that they can be later applied in a low-resource embedded system. A neural network approach is used for codebook generation. The preservation of medical parameters is a prominent sign of quality in medical compression systems. Both signal level fidelity factors and preserving medical parameters are tested. The results show that mean residual vector quantization with short segments is a workable approach for EMG signal compression.  相似文献

Fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) is a fast and efficient method of estimating aneuploidy in human spermatozoa. In this study, we have estimated baseline disomy frequencies in spermatozoa from a group of 10 normospermic men, using stringent scoring criteria. A triple- probe FISH procedure was used for chromosomes 3, X and Y, while a double-probe FISH method was used for chromosomes 7 and 16. A total of 101273 spermatozoa were scored for chromosomes 3, X and Y, resulting in 97.83% haploidy (3X or 3Y), 0.39% disomy (33X, 33Y, 3XX, 3YY or 3XY) and 0.35% diploidy (33XX, 33YY or 33XY). A total of 100760 spermatozoa were scored for chromosomes 7 and 16, giving 98.9% haploidy (716), 0.11% disomy (7716 or 71616) and 0.27% diploidy (771616). Disomy frequencies for individual chromosomes differed (chromosome 3, 0.20%; chromosome 7, 0.05%, chromosome 16, 0.06%; X + Y, 0.19%). The frequency of disomy 3 was significantly higher than disomy 7 (P = 0.019) and disomy 16 (P = 0.022), while the frequency of sex chromosome disomy was significantly higher than disomy 7 (P = 0.0058) and disomy 16 (P = 0.0067), but not disomy 3 (P = 0.73). The disomy and diploidy (0.27- 0.35%) estimates obtained for this normospermic population were generally low and were similar to other recent reports.   相似文献

Previously, unstimulated cells of the human monocytic tumor cell line U937 have been shown to possess a negligible cell-surface tissue factor (TF) activity, and to secrete a small amount of factor VIIa/tissue factor (VIIa/TF) inhibitor activity. On stimulation with endotoxin or with phorbol myristate acetate (PMA), TF of these cells is known to be increased approximately fourfold. In this report, we demonstrate that VIIa/TF inhibitor is also increased on stimulation of U937 cells with endotoxin (approximately equal to threefold) or with PMA (approximately equal to 20-fold). Notably, the secretion of the inhibitor persisted after the cell surface TF had started to decline. Further, when serum- free media from PMA stimulated cells was electrophoresed on a sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) gel, we eluted two inhibitor activity peaks corresponding to Mr approximately equal to 47,000 and Mr approximately equal to 36,000. The molecular weights of these peaks are similar to those obtained earlier from human plasma for this inhibitor(s).  相似文献

This study was undertaken to determine whether diabetes alters the viscoelastic properties of erythrocytes. The oldest and youngest 10% fractions of circulating red cells were separated by centrifugation of freshly drawn blood obtained from ten diabetics with disease of one to 20 years' duration and from an equal number of age- and sex-matched control subjects. Cells from each fraction were suspended in phosphate- buffered saline, and their rheologic behavior was examined in a rheoscope. The elongation of cells, the percentage of cells that tank- treaded in response to shear stress, tank-treading frequency, and the rate of recovery of cell shape upon cessation of shear stress were determined in the oldest and youngest 10% of cells for diabetics as well as for controls. All four parameters were virtually identical for diabetics and controls. Additional aliquots of cells were taken for assessment of nonenzymatic glucosylation of hemoglobin and cell membrane protein. The absence of any measurable difference in rheologic behavior of cells from diabetic and control subjects, despite substantial differences in nonenzymatic glucosylation of hemoglobin and cell membrane proteins, suggests that the magnitude of glucosylation observed in these cellular constituents does not alter the viscoelastic properties of the cells. The implication of these observations is that microvascular complications of diabetes are not attributable to altered deformability of red cells.  相似文献
