Theoretical and experimental aspects of detection of counterfeit and inferior quality products among pharmaceuticals produced from oilplants

On the basis of their own empiric studies, the authors substantiate principle approaches to and criteria of the detection of counterfeit and inferior quality products among pharmaceuticals and biologically active food supplements produced of oilplants with a non-specific composition of fatty acid acylglyceroles. To detect counterfeit and inferior quality products effectively, the authors offer the optimal sequence of procedures including the following steps: organoleptic analysis; measurement of the main compositional and qualitative parameters (density, refractive index, saponification number, acid number, iodine number, oxidability index, percentage of unsaponifiables, and total content of carotenes converting into beta-carotene); theoretical calculation of the composition of fatty acids and glyceroles based on the empiric compositional and qualitative values, including the calculation of average relative molecular mass of the fatty acids, and the proportion of acylglyceroles and glycerin in the objects.     

Calculation of the main parameters of spokes for intramedullary reinforcement of tubular bones

The goal of this work was to determine the optimal geometric parameters of plastically deformed spokes inserted into the medullary canal during intramedullary reinforcement performed as a part of perosseous distraction osteosynthesis. The results of clinical application of the suggested technique are described.     

Effects of low-frequency magnetic field on urolith solubility in vitro

A 27% increase in solubility of urolith substance was observed in water pretreated with alternating magnetic field (22 Hz, 25 mT) for 60 min compared to untreated water. Changed density of distilled water without concrement in response to the impact of alternating magnetic field does not influence qualitatively on solubility of urolith substance in the urolith placement in the pretreated water. Shift in wave length of maximums in spectra of solution absorption evidences for more intensive solution of organic components of uroliths in water pretreated with alternating magnetic field than in untreated water.     

Influence of auxiliary components on the physicochemical properties of aqueous solutions of guanidine antiseptics

The properties of aqueous solutions of non-ionic thickening polymers used in pharmacy were studied after the introduction of antiseptics of the guanidine series: chlorhexidine bigluconate and its high molecular analog (poly(hexamethyleneguanidine) chloride). The intramolecular interaction between guanidine antiseptics and thickening agents was confirmed by spectroscopic methods. Changes in the properties (surface tension, viscosity, drug release) of aqueous compositions of antiseptics and thickening agents with ionic charge as compared to placebo and to each other were quantitatively characterized using the Rebinder device, Ubellohde viscometer, and dialysis via semipermeable membrane. __________ Translated from Khimiko-Farmatsevticheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 40, No. 7, pp. 45–48, July, 2006.     

The seasonal dynamics of blocking in the flea Citellophorus tesquorum altaicus from the Tuva natural plague focus

Seasonal changes in the frequency of block formation have been established in C. tesquorum altaicus from the Tuva natural plague [correction of plaque] focus. Distinctions have been observed in the blocking of fleas born in different calendar years. "Young" fleas born the current year block more frequently than old ones born the previous year.     

The survival of the causative agent of plaque in the long-tailed suslik from a Tuva natural focus in wintertime]

The survival of the causative agent of plague in the long-tailed souslik in the Tuva natural focus in winter was experimentally studied. They were made in a special bunker laboratory just in the focus. The experimental conditions were close to the hygrothermal parameters of a long-tailed souslik's burrow. Inoculation and placement of the animals and fleas into the bunker were accomplished in the September to early October. The rodents and ectoparasites were examined after their hibernation in the late April to early May of the following year. The duration of the experiment was 7.5 months. It has been found that the long-tailed souslik can be infected with the causative agent of plague before hibernation through transmission. There were no cases of plague microbial infection through the bite of fleas in sousliks following hibernation. Low infection rates of the fleas hibernating with their host were notified. The causative agent was found to survive in the mummified carcasses of sousliks for 7.5 months (the follow-up period).     

The efficacy of Neovir in the combined treatment of patients with operable tumors of the gastrointestinal tract]

Under observation there were 32 patients with operable tumors of the gastro-intestinal tract. The average age of the patients was (64.8 +/- 7.5) years. Patients of the control group (18 patients were given the routine complex treatment. The main group (14 patients) were additionally given the interferonogenic immunomodulator "Neovir" which resulted in lower risk of the appearance of pyo-septic complications. It was confirmed by positive dynamics of the indices of cellular immunity, intensified production of proinflammatory cytokines and interferon-alpha.
