The efficacy of Neovir in the combined treatment of patients with operable tumors of the gastrointestinal tract]

Under observation there were 32 patients with operable tumors of the gastro-intestinal tract. The average age of the patients was (64.8 +/- 7.5) years. Patients of the control group (18 patients were given the routine complex treatment. The main group (14 patients) were additionally given the interferonogenic immunomodulator "Neovir" which resulted in lower risk of the appearance of pyo-septic complications. It was confirmed by positive dynamics of the indices of cellular immunity, intensified production of proinflammatory cytokines and interferon-alpha.     

Antihypoxic and Antinecrotic Effect of Mexidol in Skin Ischemia

Course treatment with mexidol in a dose of 25 mg/kg for 3 days decreased activities of aspartate transaminase and creatine phosphokinase in the plasma on day 3 after the incidence of skin ischemia (by 1.3 and 1.66 times, respectively). Under these conditions the index of cytolysis decreased by 1.3 times. Therefore, mexidol prevented progression of necrotic processes in the skin. Mexidol therapy of animals with skin ischemia restored the reserve capacity of systems for energy supply and antioxidant defense. The systems of NADH-ubiquinone reductase and succinate-ubiquinone reductase served as the targets for the action of mexidol. Mexidol significantly decreased the damaging effect of reactive oxygen species. Dermatoprotective properties of mexidol were associated with its influence on the energy supply system (regulation of enzyme activity in the electron transport chain, ubiquinone metabolism) and antioxidant defense.__________Translated from Byulleten Eksperimentalnoi Biologii i Meditsiny, Vol. 139, No. 2, pp. 170–174, February, 2005     

Plasma x-ray sources powered by megajoule magnetocumulative generators

We have performed experiments using magnetocumulative generators (MCGs) to power three different types of high-energy-density plasma discharges suitable for intense x-ray generation. They include the H-pressed discharge, the capillary z-pinch, and the θ-pinch. The MCGs were operated with, and without, plasma opening switches. The characteristic currents were approximately 10 MA and characteristic time scales approximately 1 μs. In this paper we describe the characteristics of these experiments.     

Effects of GABA derivative TZ-50-2 on the autonomic nervous system

GABA derivative TZ-50-2 (4-oxy-3-benzylamino-N-benzylbutanamide hemisuccinate) with pronounced neurotropic (anticonvulsive and local anesthetic) and cardiotonic (antiarrhythmic and antianginal) activities produced a transient facilitation followed by a long-term inhibition of nerve transmission in the parasympathetic and, especially, sympathetic ganglia in acute experiments on cats. TZ-50-2 reduced sensitivity of adrenal chromaffin cells and cholinoreceptors of the carotid glomeruli to cytisine. Theory and practice of designing the therapeutic drugs based on the lipophilic fractions of vegetable raw materials for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory lesions of urogenital system

Principle approaches to designing the therapeutic drugs based on the lipophilic fractions of vegetable raw-materials and meant for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory lesions of urogenital-system organs are substantiated in the paper both experimentally and theoretically. Considering the peculiarities of the mentioned pathologies, it is recommended to use the lipophilic fractions as the main components of soft drugs, in particular, of suppositories and ointments. The preliminary results of preclinical tests proved the chosen trend in creating the new therapeutic-and-preventive preparations to be promising.
