This study evaluated the effects of different parameters of dentin irradiation with erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser on bond strength to dentin and analyzed the ultramorphological characteristics of resin–laser-irradiated dentin interfaces using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Dentin surfaces were abraded with SiC paper (600 grit) or Er:YAG laser-irradiated (120/4, 140/6, 180/4, or 200/6 mJ/Hz). Three adhesive systems were tested: Single Bond Plus (3M ESPE), Clearfil Protect Bond (Kuraray Med.), and Clearfil Tri-S Bond (Kuraray Med.). Treatments were performed over flat dentin surfaces of human third molars. Specimens were stored in distilled water for 1 week or 6 months and prepared for a microtensile bond strength test and interfacial ultrastructure for analysis. Microtensile bond strength data (n?=?5) were analyzed with three-way analysis of variance. Irradiation with Er:YAG laser did not reduce the bond strength values for self-etching adhesives even after 6 months of water storage. The hybrid layer formation was observed only when the adhesives were applied to non-irradiated dentin (control group). Nanoleakage occurred in all resin–dentin interfaces using Single Bond Plus for both periods. Nanoleakage pattern and bond strength of self-etching adhesives to dentin were less affected by Er:YAG laser irradiation and by the 6-month storage in water than was those of the etch-and-rinse adhesive. TEM analysis revealed no hybridization when dentin was laser-irradiated. Clinical significance: Minimally invasive caries removal has been proposed. Nevertheless, bonding mechanisms to lased dentin are not entirely described. Knowing the interaction between the treated dentin and bonding agents and its behavior over time is of utmost importance for new technologies. Regarding that, two-bottle self-etching adhesive system provided a more consistent evidence of its better behavior when bonding to lased substrate.  相似文献

The BED capture enzyme immunoassay test makes it possible to determine whether individuals were recently infected with HIV.ObjectiveIn this study, the overall HIV and recent infections prevalences were determined at five Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) centers, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, Northeastern of Brazil.Material and methodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among users of five VCTs in the metropolitan region of Recife between July 2007 and April 2009. Out of the individuals who tested positive for HIV, 169 were analyzed to assess the prevalence of recent infection by means of the BED-CEIA (BED-Calypte®).ResultsOut of 46,696 individuals tested 916 (1.96%) turned out positive for HIV infection The highest prevalence was in Recife (3.9%). The prevalence was higher among males (3.93%), and men who have sex with men (MSM) (12.4%). The frequency of recent infections among the 169 subjects evaluated was 23.7%. Recent infections were more common among individuals under 25 years of age. There was slight predominance of men and higher frequency of heterosexuals in both groups, but still a significant portion of MSM (33%). Subtype B predominated, followed by a high proportion of subtype F.ConclusionsRecent infection occurs mainly among young individuals and heterosexuals, despite a significant proportion of recent infection among MSM. These results suggest that preventive actions aimed at the MSM community remains a challenge and efforts focusing this group should continue to be a priority.  相似文献

To evaluate the effect of topography in nanoscale, titanium surfaces were bombarded by argon ions (a chemically inert gas), in an atmosphere of plasma. The effects of surface parameters on morphology, adhesion, proliferation, and MC3T3‐E1 preosteoblasts differentiation were analyzed. Nontreated (smooth) surfaces were used as a control. The levels of average roughness (Ra) observed in bombarded and smooth titanium surfaces were of 95 and 14 nm, respectively. The wettability increased on treated surfaces. The number of attached cells (30 and 60 min) was significantly higher on the bombarded surface. The cell proliferation after 3 and 7 days was also significantly higher on the ion‐bombarded surface. In addition, the ALP activity and expression of osteocalcin were higher in cells grown on the treated surface. The results showed that bombardment with argon ions increased the roughness and the wettability of the Ti surface, promoting a significant increase in the adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of preosteoblasts.  相似文献

Objective:

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the sensitivity and specificity of multislice computed tomography (CT) for diagnosis of orbital fractures following different protocols, using an independent workstation.

Materials and methods:

CT images of 36 patients with maxillofacial fractures (symptomatic to orbit region) who were submitted to multislice CT scanning were analyzed, retrospectively. The images were interpreted based on 5 protocols, using an independent workstation: 1) axial (original images); 2) multiplanar reconstruction (MPR); 3) 3D images; 4) association of axial/MPR/3D images and 5) coronal images. The evaluated anatomical sites were divided according to the orbital walls: lateral (with or without zygomatic frontal process fracture); medial; superior (roof) and inferior (anterior, medial). The collected data were analyzed statistically using a validity test (Youden''s J index; p<0.05). The clinical and/or surgical findings (medical records) were considered as the gold standard to corroborate the diagnosis of the anatomical localization of the orbital fracture.

Results:

3D-CT scanning presented sensitivity of 78.9%, which was not superior to that of MPR (84.0%), axial/MPR/3D (90.5%) and coronal images (86.1%). On the other hand, the diagnostic value of axial images was considered limited for orbital fractures region, with sensitivity of 44.2%.

Conclusions:

Except for the axial images, which presented a low sensitivity, all methods evaluated in this study showed high specificity and sensitivity for the diagnosis of orbital fractures according to the proposed methodology. This protocol can add valuable information to the diagnosis of fractures using the association of axial/MPR/3D with multislice CT.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the shape of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) articular eminence and the articular disc configuration and position in patients with disc displacement. TMJ magnetic resonance images (MRI) of 14 patients with bilateral disc displacement without unilateral reduction were analyzed. Articular eminence morphology was characterized as box, sigmoid, flattened, or deformed. Articular disc configuration was divided into biconcave, biplanar, biconvex, hemiconvex or folded, and its position, as "a" (superior), "b" (anterosuperior), "c" (anterior) or "d" (anteroinferior). The images were divided and the sides with disc displacement with reduction (DDWR) and without reduction (DDWOR) were compared. Regarding articular eminence shape, the sigmoid form presented the greatest incidence, followed by the box form, in the DDWR side, although this was not statistically significant. In the DDWOR side, the flattened shape was the most frequent (p = 0.041). As to disc configuration, the biconcave shape was found in 79% of the DDWR cases (p = 0.001) and the folded type predominated in 43% of the DDWOR cases (p = 0.008). As to disc position, in the DDWR side, "b" (anterosuperior position) was the most frequent (p = 0.001), whereas in the DDWOR side, "d" (anteroinferior position) was the most often observed (p = 0.001). The side of the patient with altered disc configuration and smaller shape of TMJ articular eminence seems to be more likely to develop non-reducing disc displacement as compared to the contralateral side.  相似文献

One of the most important indications for contrast‐enhanced breast imaging is the presurgical breast cancer (BC) staging. This is a large‐scale single‐center experience which evaluates the role of CEDM in presurgical staging and its impact on surgical planning. The aims of this retrospective study were to define the diagnostic performance of CEDM in the presurgical setting and to identify which types of patients could benefit from having CEDM. We selected 326 patients with BC who underwent CEDM as preoperative staging and had breast cancer‐related surgery at our institution. We analyzed those cases in which CEDM led to additional imaging or biopsy and those in which it changed the type of surgery that was planned according to conventional breast imaging (CI) techniques (digital mammography, tomosynthesis and bilateral handheld ultrasound). CEDM sensitivity in identifying the index lesion and sensitivity, specificity, positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive values, and accuracy in the correct preoperative staging of BC of the whole population and in various subgroups were calculated. CEDM sensitivity for the index lesion was 98.8% (322/326), which led to additional breast imaging in 23.6% (77/326) of patients and additional biopsies in 17.5% (57/326). CEDM changed the type of surgery in 18.4% (60/326). In the preoperative breast cancer staging, CEDM sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and accuracy produced results of 93%, 98%, 90%, 98%, and 97%, respectively. CEDM performance was better in patients with palpable lesions. CEDM has an excellent diagnostic performance in the presurgical staging of BC. Symptomatic patients with palpable lesions benefitted most from preoperative CEDM, with a statistically significant difference compared with nonpalpable.  相似文献

This study aimed to characterise canine flow cytometry semen analysis, as well as seminal reactive oxygen species dosage using the Golden Retriever breed as model of study. Moreover, we searched for the influence of muscular dystrophy in Golden Retriever dogs on semen parameters. Thirty‐seven semen samples were obtained from healthy Golden Retrievers (n = 15) and from muscular dystrophy affected dogs (n = 22). Sperm‐rich fractions were analysed by standardised breeding soundness examination in addition to the assay of fluorescence assisted cell sorting for acrosome integrity, mitochondrial activity and DNA fragmentation. Volume of ejaculate, per cent of motile spermatozoa and vigour were similar between groups; there were no differences in the per cent of minor and major defects. Integrity of acrosomal membrane, mitochondrial potential and sperm DNA fragmentation had no significant differences between groups either. Animals from control group had higher concentration of spontaneous seminal oxidative species in comparison with affected animals. Dogs affected by dystrophy had seminal parameters similar to those observed in healthy dogs except for the lower concentration of oxidative species. Future studies aiming to establish reference values for canine seminal parameters should be considered preferably with distinction of breeds.  相似文献

Oxidative stress is closely associated with secondary cell death in many disorders of the central nervous system including stroke,Parkinson’s disease,Alzheimer’s disease.Among many aberrant oxidative stress-associated proteins,DJ-1 has been associated with the oxidative stress cell death cascade primarily in Parkinson’s disease.Although principally expressed in the cytoplasm and nucleus,DJ-1 can be secreted into the serum under pathological condition.Recently,a close pathological association between DJ-1 and oxidative stress in stroke has been implicated.To this end,we and others have demonstrated the important role of mitochondria in neuroprotection for stroke by demonstrating that the translocation of DJ-1 in the mitochondria could potentially mitigate mitochondrial injury.Here,we discuss our recent findings testing the hypothesis that DJ-1 not only functions as a form of intracellular protection from oxidative stress,but that it also utilizes paracrine and/or autocrine cues in order to accomplish extracellular signaling between neighboring neuronal cells,resulting in neuroprotection.This article highlights recent evidence supporting the status of DJ-1 as key anti-oxidative stress therapeutic target for stroke.  相似文献
