Robotic reconstruction of the retrocaval ureter is gaining momentum as the method of choice for surgically treating this rare condition. Maintaining the retrocaval ureteric segment further facilitates the procedure. δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of heme, in which it catalyzes the condensation of two molecules of δ-aminolevulinic acid to one molecule of porphobilinogen. It is a sulfhydryl enzyme, which means, among other tilings, that its activity is inhibited by many heavy metals. In the present investigation rabbits were given either zinc or lead or both. Zinc had a strong activating effect on ALAD in vivo, and the inhibitory effect of lead was almost completely eliminated. A close positive correlation was found between ALAD in the red blood cells and zinc in the plasma, but there was no correlation between ALAD and zinc in the red blood cells. These observations are of particular interest in the light of recent findings, suggesting that zinc is an essential metal for ALAD. 相似文献

In the present study, the protective effect of Bresol® – a polyherbal formulation – was evaluated in an experimental model of cigarette smoke (CS)-induced COPD in rats. Ten minutes daily exposure to CS for 7 weeks caused significant elevation of TNF-α (p<0.01) and total protein (p<0.01) in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of positive untreated control animals, indicating ongoing inflammatory process in the lungs. Further, histopathological findings have confirmed the presence of pathological lesions in the trachea and lungs. Five weeks of post-treatment with Bresol® (250 and 500 mg/kg, p.o.) showed significant and dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effects against CS-induced lung abnormalities by maintaining the TNF-α and total protein levels within the normal range. Additionally, Bresol®-treated animals showed normal cyto-architecture of the trachea and lungs. In conclusion, Bresol® showed dose-dependent protection against CS-induced lung and tracheal injury in rats, which further indicates, Bresol® is a useful healing agent, may help to decelerate the progression of COPD, and reduce the exacerbations in patients. 相似文献

In 2000, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the da Vinci Surgical System® for use in the United States. Since that time, the number of surgical robotic systems throughout the United States has continued to grow. The costs for using the system include the initial purchase ($1 million to $2.3 million) plus annual maintenance fees ($100,000 to $150,000) and the cost of limited-use or disposable instruments. Increasing the number of procedures that are performed using the robotic system can decrease the per-procedure costs. Two modifiable factors that contribute to increasing the annual caseload are increasing the number of surgeons capable of using the system and having a properly educated perioperative nursing team. An educated surgical team decreases turnover time, facilitates proper flow of each surgical procedure, and is able to actively and passively solve intraoperative problems. 相似文献

In the present study, 310 faecal samples from goats from eight different farms in Malaysia were tested for the presence of Giardia using a PCR-coupled approach. The nested PCR for SSU amplified products of the expected size (~200 bp) from 21 of 310 (6.8%) samples. Sixteen of these 21 products could be sequenced successfully and represented six distinct sequence types. Phylogenetic analysis of the SSU sequence data using Bayesian Inference (BI) identified Giardia assemblages A, B and E. The identification of the ‘zoonotic’ assemblages A and B suggests that Giardia-infected goats represent a possible reservoir for human giardiasis in Malaysia. 相似文献
