Associations between maternal nutritional factors including energy intake, body mass index, postpartum weight change, and anemia status and maternal-infant interactions were examined in 124 mother-infant pairs from a marginally malnourished, rural Kenyan population. Anemic mothers spent less time holding and caring for their infants than nonanemic mothers. Mothers who retained their pregnancy weight gain or were able to gain weight postpartum spent more time looking at their infants than mothers who lost weight postpartum. Maternal food intake per se was not associated with patterns of infant interaction. Lower birth weight infants were held more, cared for more, and looked at face-to-face more by their mothers. Older sisters tended to be more involved in infant interactions with higher birth weight infants. 相似文献

PURPOSE: Many studies have highlighted the aberrant expression and prognostic significance of individual proteins in either the Rb (particularly cyclin D1, p16INK4A, and pRb) or the p53 (p53 and p21Waf1) pathways in non-small cell lung cancer. We hypothesize that cumulative abnormalities within each and between these pathways would have significant prognostic potential regarding survival. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Our study population consisted of 106 consecutive surgically resected cases of predominantly early-stage non-small cell lung cancer from the National Cancer Institute-Mayo Clinic series, and assessment of proteins involved both immunohistochemical (cyclin D1, p21Waf1, pRb, p16INK4A, and p53) and mutational analysis (p53) in relationship to staging and survival. RESULTS: Cyclin D1 overexpression was noted in 48% of the tumors, p16INK4A negative in 53%, pRb negative in 17%, p53 immunopositive in 50%, p53 mutation frequency in 48%, and p21(Waf1) overexpression in 47%, none with prognostic significance. Cyclin D1 overexpression in pRb-negative tumors revealed a significantly worse prognosis with a mean survival of 2.3 years (P = 0.004). A simultaneous p53 mutation dramatically reduced the mean survival time to 0.9 years (P = 0.007). Cyclin D1 overexpression with either a p53 mutation or a p53 overexpression was also associated with a significantly poorer prognosis (P = 0.0033 and 0.0063, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Some cumulative abnormalities in the Rb and p53 pathways (e.g., cyclin D1 overexpression and p53 mutations) significantly cooperate to predict a poor prognosis; however, the complexity of the cell cycle protein interaction in any given tumor warrants caution in interpreting survival results when specific protein abnormalities are taken in isolation. 相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the safety and tolerability of MS209, a potent inhibitor of P-glycoprotein, when given in combination with docetaxel and to determine whether MS209 affects docetaxel pharmacokinetics. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Patients with advanced solid malignancies were eligible for this phase I trial. Docetaxel as 1-hour infusion was given alone during the first cycle. MS209 was introduced as of cycle 2 and given orally 30 minutes after docetaxel infusion. The dose escalation scheme followed a modified Fibonacci model with six steps (docetaxel, 60-100 mg/m2 and MS209, 300-1,200 mg per body). RESULTS: A total of 30 patients were treated at five dose levels. Dose-limiting toxicities were febrile neutropenia, infection, stomatitis, dysphagia, and fatigue. The maximum tolerated dose was reached at level 5 (docetaxel, 80-MS: 1,200). Pharmacokinetic analysis failed to show a strong pharmacokinetic interaction between the two compounds, but at the highest dose levels, there is a trend to an increase of docetaxel AUC when this agent is given in combination with MS209. CONCLUSION: MS209 can be given in combination with docetaxel, with limited effect on docetaxel toxicity or pharmacokinetics. 相似文献

Materials used in the marine industry are exposed to extreme conditions, so it is necessary to meet remarkable characteristics, such as mechanical resistance, low density, and good corrosion resistance. The challenging environment requires continuous performance improvements, so this work is focused on developing new materials with superior properties, using the electrochemical deposition technique, which are convenient for marine engineering. High-entropy alloys have been attracting tremendous interest in many applications, due to their simple crystal structures and advantageous physical-chemical properties, such as high strength, anti-corrosion, erosion, and electro-magnetic capabilities. To identify the most appropriate compositions, MatCalc software was used to predict the structure and characteristics of the required materials, and thermodynamic and kinetic criteria calculations were performed. The modelling processes generated a series of optimal compositions in the AlCrCuFeNi alloy system, that are suitable to be used in anticorrosive and tribological applications. The composition and morphology of the obtained high entropy alloy thin films revealed a uniform structure, with a small grain profile. The corrosion resistance was investigated in artificial seawater to observe the behavior of the newly developed materials in demanding conditions, and the results showed improved results compared to the copper foil substrate. 相似文献

Subtle subjective visual dysfunctions (VisDys) are reported by about 50% of patients with schizophrenia and are suggested to predict psychosis states. Deeper insight into VisDys, particularly in early psychosis states, could foster the understanding of basic disease mechanisms mediating susceptibility to psychosis, and thereby inform preventive interventions. We systematically investigated the relationship between VisDys and core clinical measures across three early phase psychiatric conditions. Second, we used a novel multivariate pattern analysis approach to predict VisDys by resting-state functional connectivity within relevant brain systems. VisDys assessed with the Schizophrenia Proneness Instrument (SPI-A), clinical measures, and resting-state fMRI data were examined in recent-onset psychosis (ROP, n = 147), clinical high-risk states of psychosis (CHR, n = 143), recent-onset depression (ROD, n = 151), and healthy controls (HC, n = 280). Our multivariate pattern analysis approach used pairwise functional connectivity within occipital (ON) and frontoparietal (FPN) networks implicated in visual information processing to predict VisDys. VisDys were reported more often in ROP (50.34%), and CHR (55.94%) than in ROD (16.56%), and HC (4.28%). Higher severity of VisDys was associated with less functional remission in both CHR and ROP, and, in CHR specifically, lower quality of life (Qol), higher depressiveness, and more severe impairment of visuospatial constructability. ON functional connectivity predicted presence of VisDys in ROP (balanced accuracy 60.17%, p = 0.0001) and CHR (67.38%, p = 0.029), while in the combined ROP + CHR sample VisDys were predicted by FPN (61.11%, p = 0.006). These large-sample study findings suggest that VisDys are clinically highly relevant not only in ROP but especially in CHR, being closely related to aspects of functional outcome, depressiveness, and Qol. The impact of selenium on the course of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) was mainly assessed by monitoring the titer of antithyroid autoantibodies in most of the studies conducted hitherto. On the other hand, the imbalance in activity of T cells such as Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg may be relevant in the pathogenesis of this disease. Hence, the assessment of changes in the secretion of cytokines by these cells during selenium supplementation in patients with HT seems to be an important issue and was the main goal of this study. A further aim was to search for correlations among these cytokines, as well as markers of thyroid function, selenium/iodine status in the body, and other biochemical parameters. The group of 29 women with newly diagnosed Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was supplemented with selenium in a dose of 100 µg/day for 6 months. Immunological parameters: interferon γ, tumor necrosis factor α, chemokine CXCL10, interleukin 4, interleukin 1β, interleukin 17, transforming growth factor β, and C-reactive protein, as well as selenium status parameters were determined in serum twice, i.e., before and after supplementation. Selenium supplementation was associated with a change in the production of two cytokines: interferon γ and interleukin 1β, for which a decrease and an increase in concentration were observed, respectively. The partial least squares (PLS) model revealed the presence of many relevant correlations among analyzed parameters. The stage of HT development, degree of thyroid dysfunction, and selenium supplementation of diet are interdependent factors which shape the profile of some cytokines secreted by cells participating in the autoimmunity process. 相似文献

A series of some derivatives of 2-xanthone was synthesized and evaluated for their activity against M. tuberculosis in primary and/or secondary microbiological assays. The cytotoxic activity of some compounds was also evaluated. The most active compounds were: [I] 2-(2-(4-(2-(4-chloro-3-methylphenoxy)ethyl)piperazin-1-yl)ethoxy)-9H-xanthen-9-one, [III] 2-((4-(2-(4-chlor-3-methylphenoxy)ethyl)piperazin-1-yl)methyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one dihydrochloride and [XVIII] ethyl 4-(2-hydroxy-3-(9-oxo-9H-xanthen-2-yloxy)propyl) piperazine-1-carboxylate, which displayed 98%, 98% and 94% inhibition of M. tuberculosis growth, respectively. Furthermore, compounds III and XVIII revealed their cytotoxic activity (SI < 1). Other structures varied greatly in their anti M. tuberculosis activity, however, several trends in their structure in relation to their antituberculous activity have been observed. 相似文献
