Porphyromonas gingivalis FimA fimbriae have been classified into 6 genotypes (types I-V and Ib) based on the diversity of the fimA genes encoding the fimbrial subunits. We investigated the prevalence of fimA genotype in Japanese children. Dental plaque specimens were obtained from 400 subjects (age; 2 to 15 years), including 134 with healthy gingiva, 239 with gingivitis and 27 with periodontitis, and then analyzed by polymerase chain reaction. P. gingivalis was detected in 1.5%, 10.0% and 29.6% of these subjects, respectively. Significant differences were observed with regard to P. gingivalis infection among the groups [chi-squared analysis: gingivitis vs. healthy, P < 0.01, odds ratio (OR) = 7.4; periodontitis vs. healthy, P < 0.001, OR = 27.8]. In P. gingivalis-positive subjects with periodontitis, the most prevalent fimA types were type Ib/type II combination (37.5%) and type IV (37.5%), followed by type II (25.0%), while type IV (33.3%) and type II (29.2%) were most often detected in those with gingivitis. Our results suggest that the presence of P. gingivalis is associated with periodontal diseases, and that the type II, IV and Ib/II combination are the most common among fimA genotypes. 相似文献

Hypertension is very prevalent in chronic kidney disease and critical for its prognosis. Sympathoexcitation and oxidative stress have been demonstrated to be involved in chronic kidney disease. We have shown previously that sympathoexcitation by brain oxidative stress mediates arterial pressure elevation in the salt-sensitive hypertension model, Dahl salt-sensitive rats. Thus, we investigated whether sympathoexcitation by excessive brain oxidative stress could contribute to arterial pressure elevation in salt-induced chronic kidney disease model rats. Young (3-week-old) male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to a uninephrectomy or sham operation and then subjected to either a normal salt (0.5%) or high-salt (8.0%) diet for 4 weeks. The young salt-loaded uninephrectomized rats exhibited sympathoexcitation, hypertension, and renal injury, proteinuria and global glomerulosclerosis together with tubulointerstitial damage. Under urethane anesthesia and artificial ventilation, renal sympathetic nerve activity, arterial pressure, and heart rate decreased to a greater degree in the salt-loaded uninephrectomized rats than in the nonsalt-loaded uninephrectomized rats and the salt-loaded or nonsalt-loaded sham-operated rats, when Tempol, a membrane-permeable superoxide dismutase mimetic, was infused acutely into the lateral cerebral ventricle. Oxidative stress in the hypothalamus, measured by lucigenin chemiluminescence, was also significantly greater. Furthermore, in the salt-loaded uninephrectomized rats, antioxidant treatment with chronic intracerebroventricular Tempol decreased sympathetic nerve activity and arterial pressure, which, in turn, led to a decrease in renal damage. Similar effects were elicited by treatment with oral moxonidine, the central sympatholytic agent. In conclusion, sympathoexcitation by brain oxidative stress may mediate arterial pressure elevation in salt-induced chronic kidney disease. 相似文献

Life expectancy (LE) among the Japanese population with or without diabetes mellitus was estimated. LE in 40-year old men and women was 41.1 and 47.5 years in those without diabetes and 32.3 and 40.9 years in those with diabetes. The LE of 40-year old men and women with diabetes was 8.8 and 6.6 years shorter than in those without diabetes. Diabetes mellitus leads to a decrease in LE. To clarify the links between ECG QT-related parameters and heart rate variability (HRV) and the covariates possibly distorting them, the averaged RR and QT intervals in a single lead ECG were measured for 64 male and 86 female subjects aged 18–26. The QT index, defined by Rautaharju et al., in the young adults was not significantly related to any HRV parameters nor heart rate, but the Bazett's corrected QT (QTc) interval was associated negatively with the parasympathetic activity and positively with heart rate. No significant differences in the QTc interval, QT index or heart rate were seen between the men and women, but they significantly differed between both sexes after adjustment for possible covariates such as age and body mass index (BMI). Significant sex differences in parasympathetic parameters of the HRV were unchanged before and after the adjustment, but significant differences observed in the unadjusted sympathetic parameters disappeared after adjusting for covariates. Age, BMI and body fat percentage also were significant covariates affecting these ECG parameters. Consequently, QT index, unaffected by heart rate and HRV parameters, appears to be a more useful indicator than the QTc interval. Instead, the QT index and HRV parameters are recommended to be simultaneously measured in epidemiological research because they are probably complementary in assessing autonomic nervous function. The MERA monopivot centrifugal pump has been developed for use in open‐heart surgery, circulatory support, and bridge‐to‐decision for up to 4 weeks. The pump has a closed‐type, 50‐mm diameter impeller with four straight paths. The impeller is supported by a monopivot bearing and is driven by a radial‐flux magnet‐coupling motor. Because flow visualization experiments have clarified sufficient pivot wash and stagnation at the sharp corner of the pivot support was suggested, sharp corners were removed in the design stage. The index of hemolysis of the pump operating at more than 200 mm Hg was found to be lower than that of a commercial pump. Four‐week animal tests were then conducted two times; improvement of thrombus formation was seen in the female pivot through modification of female pivot geometry. Overall antithrombogenicity was also recorded. Finally, to assure mid‐term use, an additional 4‐week durability test revealed that the rate of the axial pivot wear was as small as 1.1 µm/day. The present in vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the MERA monopivot centrifugal pump has sufficient hemocompatibility and durability for up to 4 weeks. 相似文献

We present the first reported case of intraductal polypoid growth (IPG) variant of pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (ACC) metastasizing to the intrahepatic bile duct. A 58-year-old Japanese woman had previously presented with obstructive jaundice and a 7.0 cm mass in the pancreatic head. She underwent biliary drainage for 2 months followed by pancreatectomy. Histological examination revealed a carcinoma with acinar pattern, immunohistochemically positive for trypsin, and acinar cell carcinoma was diagnosed. IPGs were prominent in the main pancreatic duct and its tributaries, extending into the intrapancreatic bile duct with tumor casts in the lumen. Imaging examinations 6 years later revealed a growing lesion within the intrahepatic bile duct. Needle biopsy examination suggested metastasis of ACC, and she underwent chemoradiation therapy and partial hepatectomy. Histological examination demonstrated ACC confined to the intrahepatic bile duct. The localization of metastasis and slow growth may indicate indolent biologic behavior of the IPG variant. 相似文献

We hypothesized that interindividual variations in the teardrop, which represents the volar projection of the lunate facet of the distal radius, cause unsatisfactory fitting of the volar locking plate to the bone. This can cause flexor tendon ruptures. Herein, we conducted a cross‐sectional study and measured the ratio of teardrop height and the teardrop inclination angle as parameters of teardrop configuration for 200 standardized lateral radiographs (average age of the patients, 51 years). We also quantified the influence of the teardrop morphology by analyzing the fit of three locking plates to three radii with differing teardrop inclination angles using a three‐dimensional computer‐aided design system. The average ratios of the teardrop height and teardrop inclination angle were 0.42° (0.30–0.56°) and 28.8° (9.9–44.9°), respectively. The teardrop inclination angle was moderately correlated with age in men but not in women. In the plate‐to‐bone fit analyses, the fit of all the plates was significantly different between bones, with the configuration of the radius with the lowest teardrop inclination angle being the closest approximation to that of each plate. We demonstrated the interindividual variation in the shape of the teardrop and its influence on the fit of the volar plate, highlighting the importance of careful plate selection for achieving osteosynthesis of bones with a high teardrop inclination angle. © 2015 Orthopaedic Research Society.
