Access to Health‐Related Goods

There are many good reasons for a merger between bioethics and human rights. First, though, significant philosophical groundwork must be done to clarify what a human right to health would be and—if we accept that it exists—exactly how it might influence the practical decisions we face about who gets what in very different contexts.     

GOING TO MEET DEATH

Up until recently, most people died quickly and too soon. Now, with many illnesses curable or held at bay, many die very slowly and too late—sometimes many years too late. It's time to rethink dying.     

Maintaining a balanced perspective on risk

This paper discusses the psychological approach to the treatment of sexual problems. The focus is on sexual dysfunctions, rather than sexual deviations. The history of psychological therapy for sexual dysfunction is briefly outlined, and the major approaches commented on. The current status of this field is reviewed. It is argued that a broad-based behavioural approach is the treatment of choice for these problems, with contributions from cognitive therapy and the systems theory approach where appropriate. A discussion of the practice of therapy is also provided.
