Chorioretinal folds have been reported as a result of many intraocular and extraocular inflammatory processes or tumors. Visual loss is usually secondary to a combination of the underlying process and chorioretinal folds involving the macula. We report a patient who developed decreased vision, metamorphopsia, chorioretinal folds, and a lamellar macular hole secondary to global compression by a bone fragment. The chorioretinal folds regressed and his vision stabilized following surgical decompression. Chorioretinal folds and lamellar macular hold formation are previously unrecognized complications of reconstructive craniofacial surgery.  相似文献

Summary We conducted a phase I clinical study of aziridinylbenzoquinone (Diaziquone, AZQ) given as a 4 hour infusion weekly × 4. Forty-five children with recurrent acute leukemia and 33 children with various advanced solid tumors participated. Severe myelosuppression was the dose limiting toxic effect, occurring in all patients at the upper dose levels. Gastrointestinal and hepatic toxicities were infrequent and not severe. No allergic reactions occurred. Objective tumor regression was noted in 3 of 25 patients with a CNS tumor and in 6 of 45 patients with acute leukemia. For phase II trials the recommended dosage of Diaziquone given by this schedule is 18 mg/M2×4 for patients with a solid tumor, and is 30 mg/M2/week × 4 for children with acute leukemia.  相似文献

We compared the effects of alpha 2- and beta-adrenoreceptor blockade on the central actions of catecholamines and metabolites of alpha-methyldihydroxyphenylalanine, epinephrine, alpha-methylnorepinephrine, and alpha-methylepinephrine were studied. I.c.v. and nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) injections were carried out under anesthesia. Following i.c.v. injection, both epinephrine and methylepinephrine rapidly reduced blood pressure and heart rate, but the effects of methylnorepinephrine occurred somewhat later. Following microinjection into the nucleus of the solitary tract, epinephrine, methylepinephrine, and methylnorepinephrine all caused hypotension and bradycardia. The hypotensive effects of all 3 amines in the NTS were attenuated in additive fashion by yohimbine, an alpha 2 adrenoreceptor antagonist, and timolol, a beta-adrenoreceptor antagonist, whereas only yohimbine attenuated the bradycardia. The combination of yohimbine and timolol abolished the effects of the amines. These data suggest that in the NTS both alpha 2 and beta adrenoreceptor stimulation contribute to the hypotensive effects of these amines, but that only alpha 2 adrenoreceptors are principally involved in the heart rate response.  相似文献

Although extracellular matrix (ECM) glycoproteins play important roles in neural development, their levels are generally believed to decrease in the adult brain. Immunohistochemical analysis indicates that the anti-adhesive ECM glycoprotein SPARC/osteonectin, which contains a follistatin ‘module’, is expressed in the adult rabbit nervous system. In the cerebellum, SPARC is present in Bergmann glia, with a strong signal along their radial fibres. SPARC, while enriched in membrane fractions, is not a transmembrane protein. In the hippocampus, colocalization of SPARC is observed in cells which express the astrocytic marker GFAP. The expression of SPARC by a subset of astrocytes, particularly in synaptic enriched areas, suggests a continuing role for the ECM in the adult brain.  相似文献

The adult mammalian central nervous system (CNS) lacks the capacity to support axonal regeneration. There is increasing evidence to suggest that astrocytes, the major glial population in the CNS, may possess both axon-growth promoting and axon-growth inhibitory properties and the latter may contribute to the poor regenerative capacity of the CNS. In order to examine the molecular differences between axon-growth permissive and axon-growth inhibitory astrocytes, a panel of astrocyte cell lines exhibiting a range of axon-growth promoting properties was generated and analysed. No clear correlation was found between the axon-growth promoting properties of these astrocyte cell lines with: (i) the expression of known neurite-outgrowth promoting molecules such as laminin, fibronectin andN-cadherin; (ii) the expression of known inhibitory molecules such tenascin and chondroitin sulphate proteoglycan; (iii) plasminogen activator and plasminogen activator inhibitor activity; and (iv) growth cone collapsing activity. EM studies on aggregates formed from astrocyte cell lines, however, revealed the presence of an abundance of extracellular matrix material associated with the more inhibitory astrocyte cell lines. When matrix deposited by astrocyte cell lines was assessed for axon-growth promoting activity, matrix from permissive lines was found to be a good substrate, whereas matrix from the inhibitory astrocyte lines was a poor substrate for neuritic growth. Our findings, taken together, suggest that the functional differences between the permissive and the inhibitory astrocyte cell lines reside largely with the ECM.  相似文献

Two patients with sideroblastic anemia secondary to zinc-induced copper deficiency absorbed excess zinc secondary to oral ingestion. The source of excess zinc was a zinc supplement in one case; in the other, ingested coins. In each case, the sideroblastic anemia was corrected promptly after removal of the source of excess zinc. These two cases emphasize the importance of recognizing this clinical entity, since the myelodysplastic features are completely reversible.  相似文献
