In order to develop a biodegradable interlocking nail for fracture fixation, hydoxylapatite pins and paste were implanted in the femoral bone of rats. A distal fracture was performed. The union and the tissue reaction to hydroxylapatite versus stainless-steel rods were studied after 15 days, 1, 2 and 6 months implantation. Metal pins induced a union. Hydroxylapatite pins (Ossatite) did not prevent callus formation, but did not lead to consolidation in all cases due to weakness of gelatin matrix binding the apatite particles together. The biocompatibility of material is satisfactory and the osteo-inductive properties of hydroxylapatite was confirmed. With injectable Ossatite , we could not obtain rat femoral fracture consolidation. We can confirm good biomaterial tolerance in bone which contrasts with important soft tissue reactions. Use of such material should be carefully limited to filling intra-osseous cavities. 相似文献

An 18- to 20-nm virus particle was isolated from the Olson strain of quail bronchitis, an avian adenovirus. On density gradient separation the small virions were primarily found at densities of 1.39 and 1.42 g/cm(3). The majority of the infectious particles were at the heavier density. The virus had a hexagonal outline and contained single-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid. It was resistant to heating at 56 C for more than an hour and was not inactivated by treatment with chloroform or low pH. Purified virus did not agglutinate erythrocytes of various avian and mammalian species. Replication of the small particles occurred either in chicken embryos or in cultures of embryo kidney cells coinfected with an adenovirus helper. Antigenically the virus was distinct from the adeno-associated viruses types 1, 2, 3, and 4. The virus is the avian equivalent of the adeno-associated viruses of primates and lower animals. 相似文献

Sequences corresponding to some of the polymorphic loci previously reported from Entamoeba histolytica have been detected in Entamoeba dispar. Comparison of nucleotide sequences of two loci between E. dispar strain SAW760 and E. histolytica strain HM-1:IMSS revealed significant differences in both repeat and flanking regions. The tandem repeat units varied not only in sequence but also in number and arrangement between the two species at both the loci. Using the sequences obtained, primer pairs aimed at amplifying species-specific products were designed and tested on a variety of E. histolytica and E. dispar samples. Amplification results were in complete agreement with the original species classification in all cases, and the PCR products displayed discernible size and pattern variations among the isolates. 相似文献

50 plants indigenous to the Sudan and of common use in Sudanese folk-medicine, were screened for their molluscicidal activity, using two local snail vectors, BULINUS TRUNCATUS and BIOMPHALARIA PFEIFFERI. At different concentrations 31 (62%) of these plant samples were found to be lethal to either one or both of the snail species. 28 (56%) proved to be lethal to BIOMPHALARIA PFEIFFERI, 22 (44%) gave 100% mortality to BULINUS TRUNCATUS; while 19 (38%) killed both snail hosts (Table I). The production of biochemical markers associated with the osteoblastic phenotype, and accompanying changes in the expression of voltage-operated Ca2+ channels, have been examined in rat bone marrow stromal cell cultures treated with dexamethasone (10-8 M). Whole cell clamp analysis of voltage-operated Ca2+ channels in control cultures (using Ba2+ as the charge carrier) revealed primarily a high voltage-activated (HVA), slowly inactivating current, which was enhanced two- to threefold by treatment of the cells with Bay K 8644 (300 nM) and inhibited by nifedipine (4 M). In dexamethasone-treated cultures, the I–V relationship for inward current was shifted to more positive potentials in comparison with control cells. Most cells in these cultures possessed both the HVA current and also a faster inactivating, low-voltage-activated (LVA), nifedepineresistant current. These two currents could be separated both by nifedipine and by the use of steady state inactivation of the LVA current. The two components of the Ba2+ current varied widely in their relative size. The combination of LVA and HVA currents seen in dex-induced stromal cells resembles records of voltage-operated Ca2+ channels from cultures of calvarial osteoblasts. 相似文献
