Objective:Spectral detector CT (SDCT) has many applications in advanced liver imaging. If appropriately utilized, this technology has the potential to improve image quality, provide new diagnostic information, and allow for decreased radiation dose. The purpose of this review is to familiarize radiologists with the uses of SDCT in liver imaging.Conclusion:SDCT has a variety of post-processing techniques, which can be used in advanced liver imaging and can significantly add value in clinical practice.  相似文献

Malaria is wide spread in poor world and its burden has been assessed by the enumeration of malarial parasites in blood of patients. This study was designed to find a relationship between social structure, and spread of malaria in Khyber agency. The average parasite density was 2050 parasite/μl in Khyber Agency. Due to economic and social setup most of the people have habit of sleeping in open air thus playing role in high malaria prevalence and Plasmodium vivax remains the prevalent species. Genetic study performed on 110 Blood samples showed less genetic diversity for both Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum. Eight alleles were distinguished both for Pvmsp 3α and Pvmsp 3β in total of 20 and 39 amplified samples of P. vivax respectively. Out of 17 samples amplified for P. falciparum 11 showed genotype K1 and 10 for MAD at Pfmsp-1 while 14 alleles were identified for 3D7/1C and two for FC27 of corresponding families of Pfmsp-2 gene. This shows that Plasmodium parasites are not genetically diverse in Khyber agency.  相似文献

Forty-four pre-schoolers (ages 4.3 to 5.8 years) and their primary caregivers participated in a study on the connections between parent-child emotion communication and a narrative assessment of pre-schoolers' attachment. Children completed the Separation Anxiety Test (SAT), a narrative assessment of children's responses to attachment-related separations (including self-reliance, avoidance, attachment and coherence scores). Several aspects of parent-child discussions of emotion-eliciting events were also assessed in the Emotion Communication Task. Results indicated that SAT coherence was positively related to SAT attachment and negatively related to SAT avoidance. Furthermore, SAT coherence was positively related to parental scaffolding and negatively related to parental and child negativity during the Emotion Communication Task. Parental scaffolding and child reciprocity were positively related to each other and, in general, were negatively related to parental and child negativity. Discussion focused on the potential contributions of children's interactions with caregivers to the development of children's attachment narratives and emotion-related understanding.  相似文献

Objective

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chronic consumption of cachaça, a Brazilian beverage containing alcohol, on submandibular glands (SM) of rats by using histomorphometric and biochemical parameters.

Materials and methods

Twenty-four male rats (40 days of age) were assigned into the following four groups (n = 6): two control groups for 75 days (C75) and 105 days (C105), and two experimental groups of cachaça ingestion with ascending concentrations for consecutive 75 days (CA75) and 105 days (CA105). On the right SM glands, the striated, granular and acini ducts were processed for histomorphometric analysis. The left SM glands were weighed and stored at − 80 °C, to evaluate through biochemical tests carried out by spectrophotometric methods, the functional activity of total acid phosphatase (TAP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and to determine the mucin levels.

Results

The absolute and relative weights of the SM glands in both experimental groups were reduced in relation to the controls (p < 0.05). The histomorphometric analysis showed a significant reduction of the acini area (p < 0.05) and non-relevant reduction of striated ducts (p > 0.05). The granular ducts did not show a significant increase of the area (p > 0.05). The TAP and TRAP activities were significantly decreased in the experimental groups (p < 0.05), while the ALP functional activity decreased moderately (p > 0.05). Mucin levels also had a significant reduction when compared with the control groups (p < 0.05).

Conclusions

Chronic consumption of cachaça can cause morphological changes associated with glandular atrophy, loss of biochemical functionality of phosphatases, and the reduction of mucin synthesis.

Clinical relevance

The consumption of cachaça can compromise the functions of the submandibular glands by altering their morphology and enzymatic activity.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) 1–34 is known to enhance fracture healing. Tendon repair is analogous to bone healing in its dependence on the proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells, matrix formation, and tissue remodeling.1,2,3 We hypothesized that PTH 1–34 enhances tendon healing in a flexor digitorum longus (FDL) tendon repair model. C57Bl/6J mice were treated with either intraperitoneal PTH 1–34 or vehicle‐control (PBS). Tendons were harvested at 3–28 days for histology, gene expression, and biomechanical testing. The metatarsophalangeal joint range of motion was reduced 1.5–2‐fold in PTH 1–34 mice compared to control mice. The gliding coefficient, a measure of adhesion formation, was 2–3.5‐fold higher in PTH 1–34 mice. At 14 days post‐repair, the tensile strength was twofold higher in PTH 1–34 specimens, but at 28 days there were no differences. PTH 1–34 mice had increased fibrous tissue deposition that correlated with elevated expression of collagens and fibronectin as seen on quantitative PCR. PTH 1–34 accelerated the deposition of reparative tissue but increased adhesion formation. © 2014 Orthopaedic Research Society. Published by Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
