Purpose
Primary dysmenorrhea effects the life-quality of women negatively. The aim of this study was to evaluate heme oxygenase-1 (HO1) activity together with malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels in patients with primary dysmenorrhea.Methods
A total of 28 nulliparous women with the diagnosis of primary dysmenorrhea and 26 healthy controls were included in this study. On the first day of menstruation, all patients underwent ultrasound examination to exclude pelvic pathology and the visual analogue scale was applied to patients. Patient’s visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, age, body mass index (BMI), menstrual cycle length (day), length of bleeding (day) were recorded. In the same day, fasting blood samples were taken from each patient for biochemical analysis.Results
Serum MDA, NO and HO1 levels were found to be higher in women with primary dysmenorrhea compared to healthy controls (p?=?0.012, p?=?0.009, p?<?0.001, respectively). There were no correlation among serum levels of HO1, NO and MDA, age, BMI, cycle length, pain score and menses duration in both groups. In Pearson’s correlation analysis, positive correlation was found between HO1 levels with the NO levels (r?=?0.316, p?<?0.05) and VAS scores (r?=?0.520, p?<?0.01). Also, positive correlation was found between MDA levels and VAS scores (r?=?0.327, p?<?0.05).Conclusions
Serum HO1, NO and MDA levels increase in patients with primary dysmenorrhea. Antioxidant support might be helpful to reduce pain severity in primary dysmenorrhea.73.
Abstract: A 14-yr-old boy whose primary kidney disease was FSGS developed severe recurrence of proteinuria immediately after a second living-related kidney transplant. Despite pre- and post-operative PP and immunosuppressive treatment consisting of steroids, CycA, daclizumab, and MMF, daily protein excretion and serum creatinine increased. We therefore administered rituximab on the fourth day of transplantation. He received four weekly doses of rituximab (375 mg/m2 /dose), which resulted in a rapid clearing of circulating CD19-positive B cells, and remission of proteinuria was achieved six wk after the first rituximab treatment. Graft function was excellent six months after transplantation with proteinuria of 8 mg/m2 /h. We conclude that rituximab may be an effective treatment for post-transplant recurrence of FSGS. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of spontaneous gestational sac loss during the first trimester in women achieving multiple pregnancies by ICSI. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed of 1448 consecutive multiple pregnancies conceived by ICSI. RESULTS: Of the cohort of 1448 pregnancies, twin gestations constituted 59.6% (864), triplets 30.2% (438) and quadruplets 10.0% (146). During the first trimester, 69 (4.7%) patients miscarried, while 179 (12.3%) continued their pregnancies and had fewer gestational sacs at the end of the first trimester than at the beginning. The overall loss rate of any gestational sac during the first trimester in these multiple pregnancies was 10.1%. There was a significant difference in the frequency of spontaneous reduction to twin or singleton pregnancies in the first trimester between women carrying triplets (11.7%) and those carrying quadruplets (3.5%) [P = 0.004; odds ratio (OR) 3.5; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.3-9.1]. The frequency of gestational sac loss was significantly greater among women >35 years old (20.9%) than in women less than 35 years old (15.9%) (P = 0.03; OR 1.4; 95% CI 1.0-1.9). CONCLUSION: In multiple pregnancies there is a significant risk of spontaneous loss of any embryo during the first trimester. Binge drinking of alcohol is known to cause cardiac dysfunction in some drinkers. This study was designed to examine the effect of ethanol on rat heart tissue with an experimental model mimicking human binge drinking. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were given ethanol diluted with normal saline (40%, v:v) by gavage at the dose of 5.0g/kg every 12h for 3 doses as total. Serum activities of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine phosphokinase (CK) and aspartate transaminase (AST) were determined. Endogenous lipid peroxidation was assessed by measuring the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in heart homogenates. In vitro susceptibility of tissues to oxidative stress was assessed by using two different media. Tissue glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione transferase (GST) activities were determined. All serum enzymatic activities were found markedly elevated in ethanol group. Binge ethanol administration significantly enhanced endogenous lipid peroxidation and caused an enhanced in vitro susceptibility to lipid peroxidation. Levels of reduced GSH and GSH-Px and GST activities were found unchanged as compared to controls. SOD activity was found significantly increased. As a conclusion, binge ethanol consumption which was applied to rats to investigate acute tissue injury, appeared to confirm the generation of oxidative stress in rat hearts. 相似文献

Background: It has previously been demonstrated that subcutaneous immunotherapy with allergoids positively affects clinical and immunological parameters even after 7 preseasonal injections. However, its effect on basophil activation remains unclear. We investigated the effect of preseasonal allergoid immunotherapy on basophils and concomitantly assessed its clinical and immunological efficacy in olive pollen-monosensitized patients. Methods: This study enrolled 437 consecutive patients with respiratory allergy and positive skin prick tests (SPTs); 212 (48.5%) patients were sensitized to olive pollen, and 33 (7.5%) patients were sensitized to olive pollen only. Of these patients, 23 received preseasonal immunotherapy with an olive pollen allergoid. The olive pollen-specific basophil activation, the titrated nasal provocation test, the nasal symptom score, and olive pollen-specific IgE, IgG1 and IgG4 levels were evaluated before immunotherapy and 8 months after the end of immunotherapy in the follow-up visit. Results: In comparison to baseline evaluation, 7 preseasonal injections of an allergoid resulted in a significant decrease in the percentage of basophils expressing CD63 (29 vs. 7%, respectively, p < 0.0001) and a significant increase in the titrated nasal provocative dose (1/10 vs. 1/1, respectively, p < 0.01). SPT induration diameters caused by an olive pollen extract decreased (12 mm at baseline vs. 5.5 mm at follow-up, p < 0.005), as did nasal symptom score (7 at baseline vs. 3 at follow-up, p < 0.01). Olive pollen-specific IgE (17.5 vs. 50 kU/l, p < 0.012), IgG1 (0.16 vs. 2.9 μg/ml, p < 0.0001) and IgG4 (0.07 vs. 1.92 μg/ml, p < 0.0001) levels significantly increased. Conclusions: Immunotherapy with 7 preseasonal injections of an olive pollen allergoid decreases olive pollen-specific basophil activation over 8 months, an effect observed in vitro and in vivo. 相似文献

Reciprocal activity between populations of neurons has been widely observed in the brain and is essential for neuronal computation. The different mechanisms by which reciprocal neuronal activity is generated remain to be established. A common motif in neuronal circuits is the presence of afferents that provide excitation to one set of principal neurons and, via interneurons, inhibition to a second set of principal neurons. This circuitry can be the substrate for generation of reciprocal signals. Here we demonstrate that this equivalent circuit in the cerebellar cortex enables the reciprocal firing rates of Purkinje cells to be efficiently generated from a common set of mossy fiber inputs. The activity of a mossy fiber is relayed to Purkinje cells positioned immediately above it by excitatory granule cells. The firing rates of these Purkinje cells increase as a linear function of mossy fiber, and thus granule cell, activity. In addition to exciting Purkinje cells positioned immediately above it, the activity of a mossy fiber is relayed to laterally positioned Purkinje cells by a disynaptic granule cell → molecular layer interneuron pathway. Here we show in acutely prepared cerebellar slices that the input-output relationship of these laterally positioned Purkinje cells is linear and reciprocal to the first set. A similar linear input-output relationship between decreases in Purkinje cell firing and strength of stimulation of laterally positioned granule cells was also observed in vivo. Use of interneurons to generate reciprocal firing rates may be a common mechanism by which the brain generates reciprocal signals. 相似文献

Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is an important virulence determinant of Staphylococcus aureus. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of PVL genes in clinical S. aureus isolates and to determine the staphylococcal chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) types of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strains obtained from inpatients and outpatients of two hospitals in Turkey. Of the 304 S. aureus strains (230 hospital acquired [HA] and 74 community-onset [CO]), 261 were MRSA and 43 were methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA). PVL positivity was determined in 12 (1 HA and 11 community acquired) strains. Eight were MRSA, and four were MSSA. Seven of the PVL-positive strains were isolated from wound specimens, four from urine, and one from synovial fluid. SCCmec type III (93.78%) was more prevalent among HA-MRSA strains, and SCCmec type IIIB (41.18%) was more prevalent among CO-MRSA strains. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis patterns of the PVL-positive isolates were different. Our results indicate that PVL-positive strains are able to cause infection in nearly every system without the need for additional risk factors. Our PVL-positive CO-MRSA strains carry SCCmec types other than types IV and V. Due to the presence of PVL-positive strains in the hospitals, it is important to establish appropriate infection control measures to prevent their spread in the community and in hospitals. 相似文献

A total of 38 Coryphaenoides mediterraneus from the Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone (CGFZ), a part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR), was studied for parasites and feeding
ecology. Sixteen different parasite species were found, most of them belonging to the Digenea (6 species) and Nematoda (6).
Twelve new host and 11 new locality records were established, and 8 deep-sea generalists and 5 deep-sea specialists were found.
Twelve adult and 3 larval parasites occurred, with Allopodocotyle margolisi (Digenea), Tetraphyllidea indet. (Scolex pleuronectis, Cestoda) and Ascarophis longiovata (Nematoda) being the predominant species. These parasites reached a prevalence of 50.0%, 86.8% and 68.4% with an intensity
of infection of 1–10, 1–91 and 1–74, respectively. The food consisted of crustaceans and cephalopods; no further prey items
such as fish could be identified. Coryphaenoides mediterraneus demonstrates a parasite fauna similar to that of other deep-sea macrourids. No MAR-specific parasite species were found,
and the collected helminths are common fish parasites of the North Atlantic deep-sea basin and the adjacent continental shelf
regions. Only few larval epipelagic generalists such as ascaridoid nematodes were found, due to the deep origin of the studied
fish between 1700–3500 m. The recorded species rich parasite fauna reflects the wide depth range and opportunistic feeding
behaviour of C. mediterraneus on benthopelagic food. The recorded parasite species composition around the MAR appears to be similar to other deep-sea locations
in the Atlantic Ocean, demonstrating the wide zoogeographical distribution of these deep-sea metazoans. Consequences of the
MAR, the CGFZ and the homogeneous deep-sea environmental conditions for the parasite species distribution are discussed. 相似文献
