Effect of vitamin D on humoral and cell-mediated immune response and functional activity of peritoneal macrophages

1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D₃, an active metabolite of vitamin D, decreases the number of antibody-producing cells in C57B1/6 mice immunized with sheep erythrocytes, suppresses lymphocytes proliferation in response to stimulation with pokeweed mitogen and concanavalin A, and stimulates functional activity of macrophages. Study of the antigenic properties of herpesvirus strains isolated from herpetic lesions at different sites]

The antigenic properties of 15 strains of hepesvirus isolated from herpetic lesions of different localization were studied. The serotype of each strain was established by the neutralization tests with hyperimmune sera to the reference type 1 and 2 strains: the cross-neutralization tests revealed antigenic relationships between the strains of 1 and 2 serotypes. Most strains isolated from lesions of the genitalia belonged to type 2, although one strain isolated in herpes genitalis belonged to type 1, and 2 strains isolated from facial lesions also belonged to type 2. These results confirm the necessity of using inactivated polyvaccine prepared from herpesvirus strains of antigenic types 1 and 2 for relapse control therapy instead of using monovalent type 1 and type 2 vaccines as reported by foreign authors.     

A comparative hygienic evaluation of new forms of labor organization in the Kuzbass coal mines

It was established that transition to the contract forms of organization of labour in mines, in spite of higher moral incentives for miners and improved psychological climate in work teams, led to increased influence of industrial factors, physical and neuro-psychic overload, which potentially is fraught with health state degradation. In case with new forms of organization of labour, preventive measures should be directed towards the improvement of hazardous labour conditions, norms of workload and stimulation of rehabilitation activities.     

Effects of some nucleic acid components and of their precursors on incorporation of [1-C14] glycine and [1-C14] tyrosine into the proteins of normal and tumor tissue

Summary The effect on incorporation of [1-C¹⁴]-glycine and-tyrosine into rat liver and rat sarcoma 45 proteins of nucleic acid pyrimidine bases, and of their precursors, aspartic and ureidosuccinic acids, has been investigated. Of the substances examined, only aspartic acid and uracil were found to activate incorporation of labeled amino acids into proteins.(Presented by Active Member AMN SSSR A. D.
