Ten male Wistar rats, chronically infected with Colombian, S?o Felipe (12SF) and Y strains of Trypanosoma cruzi and ten non-infected control animals were submitted to the bradycardia responsiveness test, an assessment of heart parasympathetic function, after phenylephrine injection. Six chagasic animals showed heart parasympathetic dysfunction characterized by reduction in the index of bradycardia baroreflex responsiveness, as compared with the control group. Microscopic examination of the atrial heart ganglia of chagasic rats showed ganglionitis, but no statistically significant reduction in the number of neurons.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Evidence is accumulating that recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) in children is associated with visceral hyperalgesia. However, it is not known whether somatic sensitivity is altered as well. Therefore, the aim of our study was to assess somatic pain sensitivity in children with RAP and healthy controls at the abdomen and a distal site (thenar).
METHODS: We examined 20 children with RAP (age 8–14) and 23 healthy control children (age 9–14). Heat and mechanical pain thresholds as well as measures of perceptual sensitization in response to repetitive mechanical or tonic thermal noxious stimulation were assessed.
RESULTS: At the abdominal site, pain sensitivity in children with RAP did not differ significantly when compared to controls. At the thenar, pain thresholds of children in the RAP group were not significantly different from control children. However, children with RAP showed less perceptual sensitization in response to tonic heat and repetitive mechanical stimuli (ps ≤ 0.05) than controls.
CONCLUSIONS: We found no evidence for somatic hyperalgesia in RAP arguing against generalized hyperalgesia in these children. Somatic hypoalgesia at the thenar might either be related to a dysregulation of sensory processing and/or attentional avoidance of pain-related stimuli.  相似文献

The MOnocytic leukaemia Zing finger (MOZ; MYST3 or KAT6A1) gene is frequently found translocated in acute myeloid leukaemia. MOZ encodes a large multidomain protein that contains, besides others, a histone acetyl transferase catalytic domain. Several studies have now established the critical function of MOZ in haematopoiesis. In this review we summarize the recent findings that underscore the relevance of the different biological activities of MOZ in the regulation of haematopoiesis.  相似文献

Objective:

To determine the prevalence of Candida species and to study factors associated to oral cavity colonization in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Methods:

A total of 107 diabetics were classified into controlled and uncontrolled according to glycosylated hemoglobin values. Each patient was assessed for stimulated salivary flow rates, pH, and an oral rinse to search for yeast. The study also determined the state of oral health via Klein and Palmer CPO indexes for permanent dentition, dental plaque by O''Leary, and a periodontal chart.

Results:

We found yeasts in 74.8% of the patients. A total of 36 of the 52 subjects with controlled diabetes presented yeasts and 44 in the uncontrolled; no significant differences (p = 0.2) were noted among the presence of yeasts and the control of blood glucose. The largest number of isolates corresponded to C. albicans, followed by C. parapsilosis. Uncontrolled individuals presented a significantly higher percentage of yeast different from C. albicans (p = 0.049).

Conclusions:

We found a high percentage of Candida colonization and uncontrolled individuals had greater diversity of species. The wide range of CFU/mL found both in patients with oral candidiasis, as well as in those without it did not permit distinguishing between colonization and disease. We only found association between isolation of yeasts and the low rate of salivary flow.  相似文献

Aicardi–Goutières syndrome is an inflammatory disorder resulting from mutations in TREX1, RNASEH2A/2B/2C, SAMHD1, or ADAR1. Here, we provide molecular, biochemical, and cellular evidence for the pathogenicity of two synonymous variants in RNASEH2A. Firstly, the c.69G>A (p.Val23Val) mutation causes the formation of a splice donor site within exon 1, resulting in an out of frame deletion at the end of exon 1, leading to reduced RNase H2 protein levels. The second mutation, c.75C>T (p.Arg25Arg), also introduces a splice donor site within exon 1, and the internal deletion of 18 amino acids. The truncated protein still forms a heterotrimeric RNase H2 complex, but lacks catalytic activity. However, as a likely result of leaky splicing, a small amount of full‐length active protein is apparently produced in an individual homozygous for this mutation. Recognition of the disease causing status of these variants allows for diagnostic testing in relevant families.  相似文献

Contrast-enhanced computed tomography colonography (CE-CTC) is a useful guide for the laparoscopic surgeon to avoid incorrectly removing the colonic segment and the failure to diagnose of synchronous colonic and extra-colonic lesions. Lymph node dissection and vessel ligation under a laparoscopic approach can be time-consuming and can damage vessels and organs. Moreover, mesenteric vessels have extreme variations in terms of their courses and numbers. We describe the benefit of using an abdominal vascular map created by CE-CTC in laparoscopic colorectal surgery candidates. We describe patients with different diseases (colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease) who underwent CE-CTC just prior to laparoscopic surgery.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Passively acquired maternal antibodies protect infants from many pathogens. With increasing reports of infant pertussis, we evaluated pertussis antibodies in maternal-infant paired sera from 1999-2000. METHODS: Antibodies to pertussis toxin (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), and fimbrial proteins (FIM) were measured by validated IgG-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) in 64 maternal-umbilical cord serum pairs and in 61 of 64 infant sera. Geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of pertussis antibodies and cord : maternal GMC ratios were calculated. RESULTS: Mean maternal age and gestation were 29.7 years (range, 19-42) and 39.3 weeks (range, 35.6-40.9), and 81% of mothers were white. GMCs of maternal antibodies at delivery (ELISA units/mL) were 2.4 for PT, 6.9 for FHA, and 13 for FIM. Cord GMCs were 169%, 178%, and 157% of maternal delivery values for PT, FHA, and FIM, respectively, demonstrating active placental transfer (P<.001). Pertussis-specific IgG values for each antigen decayed to below the threshold of detection by age 2 months. CONCLUSIONS: Despite efficient placental transfer, low maternal pertussis antibody levels and their rapid decay in infant sera leave infants with little humoral protection against pertussis. These data support the rationale for maternal or neonatal immunization, with acellular pertussis vaccines, to prevent life-threatening pertussis in early infancy.  相似文献
