Magnetic resonance (MR) images in the sagittal plane display the lengths of the parahippocampal gyrus, subiculum, dentate gyrus, hippocampus, fimbria, fornix, hippocampal fissure, choroidal fissure, and temporal horn, and the anatomic relationships of these structures to the surrounding brain. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. A combination therapy comprising pegylated interferon and ribavirin currently represents the most effective therapy for chronic HCV infection. The limitations of this current therapy mainly its efficacy and significant side effects have prompted the development of new drugs. Few categories of therapeutic agents appear promising for future therapy, e.g. novel interferons, ribavirin analogs, antisense oligonucleotides, short interfering RNAs, ribozymes, enzyme inhibitors, immunomodulatory agents, antifibrotic agents, therapeutic vaccines and antibodies. Few drugs belong to afore-mentioned categories have already reached the different clinical phases of development. Objective.?To estimate the association of vaginal pH on the induction to vaginal delivery interval in labor induction with vaginal misoprostol.Methods.?Women presenting at term with intact membranes for labor induction were recruited. The pH of the vagina was measured during a digital examination of the cervix to determine the Bishop Score. Labor was induced with 25?μg of vaginal misoprostol placed every 6?h until spontaneous rupture of membranes or active labor occurred. The primary outcome was the induction to vaginal delivery interval in the lower pH (?<?5) versus higher pH (???5) group. Secondary outcomes assessed maternal and neonatal morbidities. Sample size calculated a priori estimated 120 subjects were required for a power of 95% and a 2-tailed α of 0.05.Results.?120 women met inclusion criteria and had available pH data. There was no difference in the induction to vaginal delivery interval in the lower pH (1455?min) versus higher pH group (1295 minutes, Mean difference 160[?147,468] P?=. 30). No difference was observed for operative delivery rates or neonatal outcomes.Conclusion.?The pH of the vagina may not affect the length of the induction to vaginal delivery interval in women undergoing labor induction with vaginal misoprostol. We have reported previously that millimeter waves (MMWs) protect T-cell functions from the toxic side effects of cyclophosphamide (CPA), an anticancer drug. Since the effect of MMWs has been reported to be mediated by endogenous opioids, the present study was undertaken to investigate the role of endogenous opioids in protection of T-cell functions by MMWs. The effect of MMWs (42.2 GHz, incident power density?=?38 mW/cm2) was studied on CPA-induced suppression of cytokine release by T cells in the presence of selective opioid receptor antagonists (ORA). Production of cytokines was measured in CD4 T cells isolated from splenocytes. Treatment of mice with CPA suppressed the formation of Th1 cytokines (TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-2), shifting the overall balance toward Th2 (IL-4 and IL-5). MMW irradiation of CPA-treated groups up-regulated the production of Th1 cytokines suppressed by CPA. Treatment of the CPA+MMW group with selective kappa (κ) ORA further potentiated this effect of MMWs on Th1 cytokine production, whereas treatment with μ or δ ORA increased the imbalance of cytokine production in the Th2 direction. Neurological sequelae (NS) is a common complication of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and structural alterations of myelin basic protein have been proven to initiate immunological reactions leading to NS. To determine whether xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) participates in the pathophysiology of CO-mediated NS, we examined myelin basic protein in CO poisoned XOR-depleted rats and performed radial maze studies to evaluate the alteration of cognitive function. Carbon monoxide poisoned XOR-depleted rats did not exhibit myelin basic protein alterations or impaired cognitive function, both found in CO poisoned control rats. These results indicate that XOR is essential to the pathological cascade of CO-mediated NS. 相似文献
