Retinal venous occlusion following COVID-19 vaccination: Report of a case after third dose and review of the literature

A 28-year-old, healthy male presented with blurring of vision in the right eye following third dose of the AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine. Further examination revealed ischemic central retinal vein occlusion, and subsequent laboratory investigations were inconclusive for his eye disease. He responded to pulse corticosteroid and tapering doses of oral corticosteroids without requiring any intra-vitreal injection. Twelve articles were identified with the help of a PubMed literature search, and a short review of these patients was performed. Retinal vein occlusion can occur because of inflammation-induced thrombosis after coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination and may respond to anti-inflammatory therapy.     

A preliminary study comparing the endometrial expression of inhibin, activin and follistatin in women with a history of implantation failure after IVF treatment and a control group

The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of activin: beta A and beta B subunit and follistatin in endometrium of women with implantation failure ( n = 10) and compare it with a fertile control group ( n = 7). Immunohistochemical staining intensity for follistatin in the endometrial glandular epithelium from women with implantation failure were significantly lower than that in control women ( P = 0.03). The decreased expression of follistatin in epithelial cells in the endometrium of women with implantation failure after in vitro fertilisation (IVF) may suggest that follistatin may play a role in the implantation process.     

Massive ovarian edema mimicking an ovarian neoplasm in a patient with IVC web

Massive ovarian edema is an uncommon benign condition affecting young females predominantly those in the child bearing age group and preadolescent girls. Its clinical and radiologic overlap with ovarian neoplasms and torsion which require surgical intervention makes it imperative for the radiologist to consider this entity preoperatively as preserving fertility is vital in this young age group. We report a case of massive ovarian edema, a rare presentation in a patient with inferior vena cava web and consequent Budd Chiari Syndrome, an association previously unreported in literature.
