This study assessed the wound healing potential and antimicrobial activity of henna, pomegranate and myrrh extract formulations and their blend in excision, and dead space wound models in rats in comparison to a marketed ointment (gentamycin). The natural extracts were used in ointment formulations alone or in a combination of three extracts at a total concentration of 15% w/w in medications. The percent of wound contraction in case of henna, myrrh, pomegranate, the blend and gentamycin (10?mg/kg) were 85.90–98.5%, 88.35–99.52%, 93.55–100%, 97.30–100%, and 90.25–100% from days 16 to 20, respectively. The blended formulation showed the highest increase in the percent of wound contraction and decrease in the epithelisation period compared to other formulations and showed comparable results to the standard ointment. The histological studies of excision biopsy at day 24 showed healed skin structures with normal epithelisation, the restoration of adnexa and fibrosis within the dermis in all of the formulation- and gentamycin-treated groups while the control group lagged behind in the formation of the amount of ground substance in the granulation tissue. The formulations showed antimicrobial activity against Candida, Staphylococcus aureus, mucous membrane infections and E. coli topical infections. A new series of 5,5-diphenylhydantoin derivatives containing benzylidene or isatin (4–19) was synthesized. Their anticancer activity against HeLa, a cervical cancer cell line, A549, a lung cancer cell line, and MDA-MB-231, a breast cancer cell line, was evaluated. Compounds 13, 16, 17 and 18 exhibited potent anticancer activity with average IC50 values against the tested cell lines of 109, 59, 81 and 113 μM, respectively. Compound 16 showed potent EGFR and VEGFR2 inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 6.17 and 0.09 μM, respectively. In addition, compound 16 induced caspase-dependent apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production at 5 and 10 μM. Intranasal route is one of the most attractive routes for distributing drugs to systemic circulation. Liposomes are used as biocompatible carriers to improve delivery properties across nasal mucosa. The objective of the present study was to formulate acyclovir liposomes and partition into poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. Entrapment efficiency showed that multilamellar and unilamellar liposomes were 43.2% +/- 0.83 and 21% +/- 1.01, respectively. The bioavailability of acyclovir from nasal mucoadhesive gel was 60.72% compared with intravenous route. The use of liposomes acyclovir and mucoadhesive gel not only promoted the prolonged contact between the drug and the absorptive sites in the nasal cavity, but also facilitated direct absorption through the nasal mucosa. 相似文献

Objectives:To review the current literature regarding the efficacy and safety of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS).Methods:The authors conducted a systematic review of PubMed databases using keywords relevant to the objective of this research. Titles and abstracts were reviewed, after which studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected. Findings were reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.Results:Thirteen studies were identified, and only 3 studies that reported 50 patients (age range from 3 to 65 years) met the inclusion criteria of DBS for LGS. Radiological imaging findings and neurophysiological findings were described in all studies. The thalamus nuclei, particularly the centromedian thalamic nucleus (CMN), were found to be highly active in LGS. By targeting this brain region, patients showed favorable outcomes. Overall, the mean seizure reduction was more than 50% in all patients (among whom 2 were seizure free) at a mean follow-up of 15 (12–18) months.Conclusion:According to this systemic review, DBS for LGS showed satisfactory outcomes, indicating that DBS should be considered a valid treatment option. However, more studies are needed to ensure the role of DBS in LGS by establishing accurate targeting of the CMN using proper lead positioning and radiological imaging, a standard DBS intervention, and long-term outcomes. Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a combination of seizure onset between 1 and 8 years of age and intellectual and behavioral disabilities. Electroencephalography (EEG) in LGS shows slow spike-and-wave discharges during the wake state and paroxysmal fast activity during sleep. 1-4 It has been proposed that LGS has several possible etiologies, yet it accounts for less than 2% of all forms of all epilepsies. 5 Seizure control in LGS is very challenging. Current literature has revealed resistance to anti-epileptic pharmacotherapy. 6,7 In this regard, other treatment options have been advocated. 1,7,8 To date, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been an emerging treatment option in many medication resistant epilepsy including LGS, with initial promising outcomes and reasonable complications. 9 The aim of this study is to review the current literature regarding the efficacy and safety of DBS in LGS. 相似文献

Instrument separation during root canal therapy is inevitable in endodontics with several unfavorable clinical consequences. Therefore, examining the cyclic flexural fatigue resistance of commonly used rotary endodontic files is crucial. This study aimed to determine the cyclic flexural fatigue resistance of four nickel–titanium (NiTi) rotary files used as a single canal preparation technique: WaveOne, Reciproc, Protaper F2, and Unicone medium instruments. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, each file was rotated freely within a 1.3 mm deep and 1.3 mm wide V-shaped groove in a stainless-steel block with a 40° and 5 mm radius of curvature. Cyclic fatigue resistance was compared between the NiTi files by verifying the time needed to crack. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Scheffé post hoc with a significant level set at p < 0.05. Our results demonstrated that the WaveOne instrument had the highest cyclic flexural fatigue resistance among the tested groups (p ≤ 0.05), while Unicone had the lowest cyclic flexural fatigue resistance. This study concluded that WaveOne size 25/0.08 could illustrate a superior cyclic flexural fatigue resistance when instrumenting root canals with the lowest possibility to cause instrument separation. 相似文献
