Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. A functional polymorphism Val66Met of BDNF gene was studied in patients with schizophrenia (n=336), bipolar affective disorder (n=352) and healthy controls (n=375). Consensus diagnosis by at least two psychiatrists, according to DSM-IV and ICD-10 criteria, was made for each patient using a structured clinical interview for DSM-IV Axis I disorders (SCID). No association was found between the studied polymorphism and schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder either for genotype or allele distribution (for genotype: p=0.210 in schizophrenia, p=0.400 in bipolar disorder; for alleles: p=0.260 in schizophrenia, p=0.406 in bipolar disorder). Results were also not significant when analysed by gender. For males genotype distribution and allele frequency were (respectively): p=0.480 and p=0.312 in schizophrenia, p=0.819 and p=0.673 in bipolar affective disorder. Genotype distribution and allele frequency observed in the female group were: p=0.258 for genotypes, p=0.482 for alleles in schizophrenia; p=0.432 for genotypes, p=0.464 for alleles in bipolar affective disorder. A subgroup of schizophrenic (n=62) and bipolar affective patients (n=28) with early age at onset (18 years or younger) was analysed (p=0.328 for genotypes, p=0.253 for alleles in schizophrenia; p=0.032 for genotypes, p=0.858 for alleles in bipolar affective disorder). 相似文献
This study examined the construct of anticipated jealousy, conceptually clarifying the components of this construct and creating an optimized scale. Total of 18 items from three widely used self-report measures of jealousy (Multidimensional Jealousy Scale–Emotional Subscale, Anticipated Sexual Jealousy Scale, and Chronic Jealousy Scale) and additional 11 potential anticipated jealousy items were given to 1852 individuals in relationships. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and item response theory (IRT) analyses were used to develop and evaluate the Anticipated Jealousy Scale (AJS). By augmenting the item pool, the results highlighted that anticipated jealousy could take two distinct forms: (1) sexual—getting upset over thoughts of a partner engaging in sexual activity with someone else and (2) possessive—getting upset over a partner forming friendships and emotional bonds with others. IRT analyses helped identify the five most effective items for assessing each of those domains to create the AJS. Results suggested that the subscales of the AJS offered greater precision and power in detecting meaningful differences among respondents than the existing measures, representing short yet psychometrically optimized scales. The AJS subscales demonstrated strong convergent validity with other measures of anticipated sexual and possessive jealousy, and excellent construct and discriminant validity with anchor scales from the nomological net surrounding the construct. Finally, regression analyses demonstrated distinct predictors and correlates for anticipated sexual jealousy, anticipated possessive jealousy, and chronic jealousy. Given the potential utility in distinguishing between the many forms of jealousy, AJS offers an optimized scale measuring anticipated sexual and possessive jealousy.
Zinc plays an important physiological role in the entire body, especially in the immune system. It is one of the most abundant microelements in our organism and an essential component of enzymes and antibacterial proteins. Zinc levels were reported to be correlated with the intensity of innate immunity responses, especially those triggered by neutrophils. However, as the results are fragmentary, the phenomenon is still not fully understood and requires further research. In this study, we aimed to perform a comprehensive assessment and study the impact of zinc on several basic neutrophils’ functions in various experimental setups. Human and murine neutrophils were preincubated in vitro with zinc, and then phagocytosis, oxidative burst, degranulation and release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) were analyzed. Moreover, a murine model of zinc deficiency and zinc supplementation was introduced in the study and the functions of isolated cells were thoroughly studied. We showed that zinc inhibits NETs release as well as degranulation in both human and murine neutrophils. Our study revealed that zinc decreases NETs release by inhibiting citrullination of histone H3. On the other hand, studies performed in zinc-deficient mice demonstrated that low zinc levels result in increased release of NETs and enhanced neutrophils degranulation. Overall, it was shown that zinc affects neutrophils’ functions in vivo and in vitro. Proper zinc level is necessary to maintain efficient functioning of the innate immune response. 相似文献
Osteoporosis is one of the most common extraintestinal complications among patients suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases. The role of vitamin D and calcium in the prevention of a decreased bone mineral density is well known, although other nutrients, including micronutrients, are also of extreme importance. Despite the fact that zinc, copper, selenium, iron, cadmium, silicon and fluorine have not been frequently discussed with regard to the prevention of osteoporosis, it is possible that a deficiency or excess of the abovementioned elements may affect bone mineralization. Additionally, the risk of malnutrition, which is common in patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, as well as the composition of gut microbiota, may be associated with micronutrients status. 相似文献
Background: Home artificial nutrition (HAN) is a developing method of treatment that reduces the need for hospitalizations. The epidemiology of pediatric HAN in Poland has not yet been covered in detail. This study is a longitudinal nationwide analysis of incidence, prevalence, and patients’ profile for HAN in Polish children. Methods: Assessment of National Health Fund (NFZ) data covering all pediatric patients treated with HAN in Poland between 2010 and 2018. Results: HAN was received by 4426 children, 65 patients were on home enteral nutrition (HEN) or home parenteral nutrition (HPN) at different times (HEN n = 3865, HPN n = 626). HAN was most frequently started before the child was 3 years old and long-term HAN programs (5–9 years) were reported. The most common principal diagnosis in HEN was food-related symptoms and signs. In HPN, it was postoperative gastrointestinal disorders. A regionally differentiated prevalence of HAN patients and centers was demonstrated. Mortality among patients was 24.9% for HEN, and 9.6% for HPN, and the main in-hospital cause of death was cardiac arrest. Conclusions: HAN’s use is increasing and evolving in Poland. Uneven distribution of patients and centers results in difficult access to the nutritional procedure which, together with the increasing number of patients, highlights the need for data analysis and development of nutrition centers. 相似文献
