Introduction Due to structural characteristics of the visual pathways, stimuli that are presented in the right half of the visual field (RVF) are initially projected to the left cerebral hemisphere, while those presented in the left half of the visual field (LVF) are projected to the right cerebral hemisphere. This anatomical feature has frequently been taken to support the notion that the well-documented RVF advantage in recognising printed words is a reflection of functional differences between the two hemispheres; notably that of the dominance of the left hemisphere for processing language. Word stimuli that are sent straight to the left hemisphere are believed to profit from more efficient processing than those sent initially to the right hemisphere, because the latter stimuli must follow a longer and more noisy pathway before reaching the language-dominant hemisphere. In the work by Jordan, Patching, and Thomas (2003) the above notion is further developed to speculate that the point of entry of visual information into the cortex may determine the procedure that will underlie the ensuing word recognition process: "... the left hemisphere can process words by mapping orthographic information in parallel onto lexical entries whereas the right hemisphere has a more rudimentary process, that can only map orthographic information sequentially" (p. 50).  相似文献

Herein, we developed a novel homogeneous liquid–liquid microextraction based on liquid nitrogen-induced phase separation (HLLME-LNPS) for the extraction and determination of lead (Pb) in Pb-adulterated opium and refined opium by GFAAS analysis. In this procedure, first, 400 μl of acetonitrile (extractant) containing 7.0 μl of diethyl dithiophosphoric acid (DDTP) is injected into a sample solution and a homogeneous solution is formed. Subsequently, the homogeneous mixture is cooled using liquid nitrogen for 16 seconds. By this process, due to the difference in the freezing points of the organic and aqueous phases, the homogeneous state is broken and the Pb-DDTP species are extracted into the liquid organic phase collected on top of the frozen aqueous phase. The introduced method exhibited a good linearity with a coefficient of determination (r2) of 0.9988 and an acceptable linear range of 0.6–100 μg l−1. Accordingly, the detection limit was 0.2 μg l−1 (S/N = 3) for Pb ions, and a high enrichment factor was obtained. The proposed method was successfully utilized to determine trace levels of Pb in opium samples. The results of the sample analysis showed that 65% of the opium samples and 85% of the refined opium samples had much higher than expected levels of contaminating Pb, and this contamination poses a serious threat to drug users.

Inferior glenohumeral dislocation is the least common type of glenohumeral dislocations. It may be associated with fractures of the adjacent bones and neurovascular compromise. It should be treated immediately by close reduction. The associated neuropraxia usually recovers with time. Traction-counter traction method is commonly used for reduction followed by immobilization of the shoulder for three weeks. Here, we report a case of inferior glenohumeral joint dislocation with greater tuberosity fracture with transient neurovascular compromise and present a brief review of the literature.  相似文献

Background: Central precocious puberty (CPP) is characterized as increasing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release. Orexin-A has also been shown to affect GnRH release. However, there are few reports about the effect of orexin A on the treatment of CPP. Methods: After establishing the precocious puberty model, the rats were divided into four groups: normal control, precocious puberty rats, precocious puberty rats treated with normal saline and precocious puberty rats treated with orexin-A. The vaginal opening time, second estrus cycle, ovarian index and uterus index of rats in each group were detected. qRT-PCR was performed to examine the expression of MEG3 and kisspeptin in rats. HT22 cells were transfected with pcDNA-MEG3 to detect the expression of Kisspeptin. Results: In this study, we found that orexin-A not only delayed the day of vaginal opening and regular estrus cycle days but also decreased the ovarian index and uterus index in rats with CPP. In addition, orexin-A reversed the up-regulation of MEG3 and kisspeptin in rats with CPP. In HT22 cells, the mRNA and protein level of kisspeptin were enhanced by pcDNA-MEG3. Conclusion: Our results suggest that orexin-A ameliorates central precocious puberty in rat and MEG3 might be involved in this effect, suggesting that MEG3 might be a novel target in treating central precocious puberty.  相似文献

Reliable molecular diagnostics, which detect specific mutations associated with drug resistance, are promising technologies for the rapid identification and monitoring of drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. Pyrosequencing (PSQ) has the ability to detect mutations associated with first- and second-line anti-tuberculosis (TB) drugs, with the additional advantage of being rapidly adaptable for the identification of new mutations. The aim of this project was to evaluate the performance of PSQ in predicting phenotypic drug resistance in multidrug- and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (M/XDR-TB) clinical isolates from India, South Africa, Moldova, and the Philippines. A total of 187 archived isolates were run through a PSQ assay in order to identify M. tuberculosis (via the IS6110 marker), and to detect mutations associated with M/XDR-TB within small stretches of nucleotides in selected loci. The molecular targets included katG, the inhA promoter and the ahpC-oxyR intergenic region for isoniazid (INH) resistance; the rpoB core region for rifampin (RIF) resistance; gyrA for fluoroquinolone (FQ) resistance; and rrs for amikacin (AMK), capreomycin (CAP), and kanamycin (KAN) resistance. PSQ data were compared to phenotypic mycobacterial growth indicator tube (MGIT) 960 drug susceptibility testing results for performance analysis. The PSQ assay illustrated good sensitivity for the detection of resistance to INH (94%), RIF (96%), FQ (93%), AMK (84%), CAP (88%), and KAN (68%). The specificities of the assay were 96% for INH, 100% for RIF, FQ, AMK, and KAN, and 97% for CAP. PSQ is a highly efficient diagnostic tool that reveals specific nucleotide changes associated with resistance to the first- and second-line anti-TB drug medications. This methodology has the potential to be linked to mutation-specific clinical interpretation algorithms for rapid treatment decisions.  相似文献
