The present study has proposed a new method for estimating the pressure head (P(t)[mm Hg]) and flow (Q(t)[L/min]) of a centrifugal pump on the basis of voltage (V(t)[V]), current (I(t)[A]), and rotational speed (N(t)[k(rpm)]) of the DC motor for a pump without any additional sensors. In the proposed estimation method, two auto-regressive exogenous (ARX) models are employed. One ARX model has an output, P(t) or Q(t), and three inputs, VI(t) = V(t)I(t) and N(t) and the steady state gain (K) of the system from VI(t) to N(t). It can be assumed that K may include the information on viscosity of blood. The coefficient parameters of this ARX model are identified in an off-line fashion before implantation of the pump. After implantation, P(t) or Q(t) is estimated by the same ARX model with the already identified parameters. The other ARX model is used to identify Kon the basis of VI(t) and N(t) in an on-line fashion every time the viscosity of blood may change. In the experiment, a mock circulatory system consisting of a centrifugal pump and a reservoir with 37% glycerin or water was employed. The root mean square error between measured Q(t) and its estimate obtained from the proposed method was 1.66L/min. On the other hand, a different method based on a single ARX model with inputs of VI(t) and N(t), but without the additional input of K, yielded the corresponding estimation error of 2.22L/min. This means that the proposed method can reduce its estimation error by about 25% in comparison with a method that cannot cope with the change in blood viscosity.  相似文献

We present a case report of a 10 years old boy with protein-losing enteropathy and eosinophilic gastroenteritis who had positive histamine release tests, increased allergen-specific IgE antibodies to some food items, and low levels of total serum protein and albumin. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a number of polyps and diffuse gastritis. Biopsy specimens of the stomach and duodenum showed widespread eosinophilia and neutrophilia. Although a restricted diet was recommended, a diet which excluded foods with positive results to both histamine release test and allergen-specific IgE antibodies was poorly tolerated, and the patient rejected systemic administration of corticosteroids. Thus, we initiated an oral disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) and ketotifen therapy. After oral DSCG and ketotifen administration, the patient's condition improved gradually. Therefore, oral DSCG and ketotifen therapy might be considered as treatment option in patients with eosinophilic gastroenteritis and protein-losing enteropathy caused by food allergy.  相似文献

Although a serum thermolabile beta-2 macroglycoprotein (TMG) may play a role in host defense as a lectin, little is known of its related physiological functions, mainly due to a lack of appropriate methods for tracing the functions of TMG. We identified a polysaccharide from Aerococcus viridans, PSA, which reacts with TMG, and based on this finding, we developed an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to trace the functions of TMG. Using ethanol precipitation and DEAE-Sepharose and Sephacryl S-400 column chromatographies, we isolated PSA from cultured medium of A. viridans, and it exhibited specific binding against TMG in blood samples. In sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), the isolated PSA showed ladder bands that implied the existence of repeating units composed of D-glucose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, D-mannose, and D-xylose, as confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. SDS-PAGE and immunochemical analysis, using rabbit anti-TMG antibody, showed that PSA specifically binds solely to intact serum TMG but not to TMG heated at 56 degrees C for 30 min, a condition under which antigenicity is lost. TMG in serum samples bound to PSA in a dose-dependent manner, and this binding was clearly suppressed by addition of PSA. These observations indicate that PSA is a useful adsorbent to TMG and can be used to develop appropriate methods for tracing the functions of TMG.  相似文献

Cardiac conduction abnormalities have been reported in families with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). The pre-excitation syndrome, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome, is reportedly common in Finns with LHON, being seen in 14 (9%) of the 163 individuals with mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations. While this syndrome is thought to be rare in other ethnic groups with LHON, the present study of 35 Japanese LHON families confirmed that it is also relatively common among Japanese families, being seen in 5 (8%) of the 63 individuals with mtDNA mutations. It remains to be determined whether the high incidence of the pre-excitation syndrome in Finnish and Japanese LHON families is due to a particular genetic composition of ethnic groups such as in Finland and in Japan, or only to a reporting bias.  相似文献

Primary cell cultures of two human pheochromocytomas (PC) that were associated with high serum levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline were developed to study the effects of nerve growth factor (NGF) and dexamethasone on the morphology and function of PC cells in vitro. By phase-contrast microscopy, cultured cells were small and hyperchromatic on the first day of culture; neurite-like processes that extended to other cells developed several days later and were maintained for more than 3 months. NGF (100ng/ml), dexamethasone (10–5M), or NGF + dexamethasone were added to the culture media 2 weeks after the cultured cells had stabilized. Catecholamine concentrations in the medium were maintained at higher levels after addition of NGF, dexamethasone, or NGF + dexamethasone as compared to control cells. In the presence of NGF, extension of neurite-like processes was clearly accelerated, while high levels of dexamethasone inhibited growth of processes. These in vitro studies showed that the addition of NGF or the removal of dexamethasone induces differentiation of adrenal neurons present in pheochromocytomas, suggesting that adrenocortical steroid hormones influence the morphological control of adrenal medullary cells.  相似文献

Ultrastructure of human pheochromocytoma cells cultured for long periods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We conducted ultrastructural analysis of human pheochromocytoma (PC) cells maintained in primary culture for about 10 months. The cells were first isolated by the enzymatic treatment of a surgically resected tissue specimen obtained from a 37-year-old man with PC, a condition which is characterized by elevated blood levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline. It was found that noradrenaline production in the medium continued until the 90th day of culture (1330 pg/ml). The production level decreased to 20 pg/ml on the 180th day, and to 18 pg/ml on the 300th day. Examination under a transmission electron microscope (TEM) at 4 weeks of culture revealed electron-dense granules (about 200 nm in size and, presumably, rich in catecholamines), which were also observed in the tumor cells from the original PC tissue. Neurite-like processes grew at around 1 week of culture, and were still maintained at 6 months of culture. But, after 6 months of culture, the neurite-like processes contained a rosary-like elevated structure, which was suggestive of cell degeneration, as determined by a plasma polymerization replica method and observed with a scanning electron microscope. When cells were examined under the TEM, fewer electron-dense granules were observed in the cell bodies, with more numerous lipofuscin-like granules and filaments. Thus, electron-dense granules, which, presumably, contain catecholamines, were seen in a long-term culture of human PC cells. These granules decreased in number in parallel with the decrease in catecholamine levels in the culture.  相似文献

We report on a 6-year-old girl with Ullrich-Turner syndrome and anorexia nervosa. The diagnosis was made at 6 years and she became anorectic at 14 years. She had been treated with low doses of estrogen just before the onset of anorexia. In spite of remarkable decrease in food intake, her body weight was in the normal range compared to standard weight. Rohrer indices were also normal, probably due to abnormal habitus in individuals with the syndrome. The pathogenetic relationship between this disorder and the hormone treatment in the onset of anorexia nervosa is discussed.  相似文献

The photoluminescent Ru(bpy) complex was dispersed in a polysiloxane film containing 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) pendant groups. The unusually long photoluminescence lifetime of the Ru(bpy) (1,94 μs at 25°C) and the blue-shifted photoluminescent wavelength suggest a rigid polymer matrix. The fluorescence yield becomes lower with higher probe concentration, indicating concentration quenching. According to the analysis based on Stern-Volmer plots, the quenching obeys a mechanism composed of both static and dynamic processes. A statistical intermolecular distance distribution between the probes was used to interpret the results in terms of static and dynamic quenching. It is shown that in the present system the dispersed complexes diffuse slightly during the excited state.  相似文献

Prostaglandins, including PGD(2) and PGE(2), are produced during allergic reactions. Although PGD(2) is an important mediator of allergic responses, aspirin-like drugs that inhibit prostaglandin synthesis are generally ineffective in allergic disorders, suggesting that another prostaglandin-mediated pathway prevents the development of allergic reactions. Here we show that such a pathway may be mediated by PGE(2) acting at the prostaglandin E receptor EP3. Mice lacking EP3 developed allergic inflammation that was much more pronounced than that in wild-type mice or mice deficient in other prostaglandin E receptor subtypes. Conversely, an EP3-selective agonist suppressed the inflammation. This suppression was effective when the agonist was administered 3 h after antigen challenge and was associated with inhibition of allergy-related gene expression. Thus, the PGE(2)-EP3 pathway is an important negative modulator of allergic reactions.  相似文献
