China is geographically located in the east of Asia and its population exceeds 1.3 billion. An understanding of dental education in China is thus of interest. However, as there is little published information on this topic, this paper provides information about China regarding its dental history, dental school system including curriculum and dental licensure. High school graduates take a nationwide entrance examination to apply for dental school, of which there are more than 50 in China. A five year dental education leads to the BDS degree. Dental school graduates must then pass the nationwide licensure examination to practise dentistry. Currently, there are not adequate numbers of dentists to provide the necessary oral health care for people living outside metropolitan areas. 相似文献

This study was designed to determine the effects of the heat curing time on a urethane tetramethacrylate (UTMA)-based hybrid resin and specifically on the degree of conversion (DC) and cytotoxicity. The materials used in this study were Estenia, a new-generation hybrid resin, and an experimental fiber reinforcement, Br-100. The DC values of the hybrid resin samples were measured using a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer after 180s of light curing followed by heat curing (0, 15, 30, and 60min). A method comparing intensities of C = C and N—H vibrations of the sample was used to calculate the final DC values. FTIR spectra were measured both inside and on the surface of the sample. The calculated DC values increased by increasing the heat curing times. After light curing only and after 15-min heat curing, the DC values inside the samples were smaller than the corresponding DC values at the surfaces of the samples. After 60min of heat curing, the samples achieved homogeneous polymerization (DC% = 65). The cytotoxicity of the material was studied from the glass fiber-reinforced hybrid resin samples, which were first light cured and then heat cured (15, 30, and 60min). Cytotoxicity was tested using both direct contact and extract methods. For the extract tests, the test specimens were incubated in a cell culture media at 37°, 54°, or 72°C for 24h. The heat curing times used had no effect on cytotoxicity. The incubation temperature, however, did have a significant effect. The extract obtained from 72°C incubation showed a cytotoxic effect whereas the others did not. The direct contact test did not show cytotoxicity. 相似文献

The renin-angiotensin system is thought to be involved in inflammatory processes such as periodontitis. However, its precise role is still unclear. Therefore, in the present study the expression of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) was investigated in inflamed human gingival tissue, and the possible involvement of the AT1R in interleukin-1β (IL-1β)-induced interleukin-6 (IL-6) production by cultured human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) was also studied. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that inflammatory cells and fibroblast-like cells were positive for the AT1R. However, in healthy gingival tissue, AT1R staining was very weak. The levels of AT1R mRNA and AT1R protein increased in HGFs after stimulation with IL-1β. The levels of IL-1β-induced IL6 mRNA and IL-6 protein were significantly reduced in AT1R gene-silenced HGFs compared with control HGFs. The data suggest that the AT1R may be involved in the regulation of gingival inflammation by modulating IL-1β-induced IL-6 production in HGFs. 相似文献

This study compared fluoride release from three fluoride-releasing dental adhesives (Trial KBF Bond, One-up Bond F, Reactmer Bond) and one conventional dental adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond) for 70 days in vitro. From each material, five disk-shaped specimens (diameter: 9.0 mm, height: 1.5 mm) were prepared and immersed in 5 ml of 10 mM phosphate buffered solution (pH 7.0). After 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63 and 70 days, the samples were transferred into new solutions. The fluoride content was determined with a combined fluoride sensitive electrode attached to an ion analyzer. Data were statistically analyzed with ANOVA, followed by Scheffé's test. Reactmer Bond showed the greatest fluoride release over 70 days (280.2 +/- 10.1 micrograms/cm2) among the materials tested. The values for One-up Bond F and Trial KBF Bond were 83.4 +/- 5.3 micrograms/cm2 and 58.6 +/- 1.5 micrograms/cm2, respectively. The values were significantly different among the four groups (p < 0.0001). Clearfil SE Bond showed almost no fluoride release over 70 days. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quantitative changes in tooth mobility before and after periodontal surgery
using a tooth mobility tester. The tester was so designed as to be able to measure the cycle of sympathetic vibrations produced
when a tooth was tapped with a impact hammer. Initially the degrees of tooth mobility, which were clinically classified from
0 to 3, were observed and the mode of mobility was assessed by the tester. Then, we examined the changes of tooth mobility
after flap surgery. The following is a summary of findings.
1) | The coefficient of change in measurements had a tendency to decrease at the buccal site and the cervical site. |
2) | At 1 week after flap surgery, the degree of tooth mobility was increased significantly. |
3) | At the 6th week after surgery, tooth mobility had returned to the preoperative level. |
4) | At 6 months after surgery, the mobility was decreased significantly compared to immediatery after surgery. |
5) | The extent of bone absorption, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level did not influence the postoperative changes of tooth mobility. |

BACKGROUND: The relationship of patient compliance to overall tooth prognosis remains controversial. There are little data, often conflicting, that pertain to tooth loss as a function of patient compliance. METHODS: This retrospective study evaluates the impact of compliance (complete versus erratic) on common periodontal clinical variables, such as probing depth, bleeding index, plaque index, and tooth loss for 505 patients in a long-term period of observation (15 to 23 years) and maintenance therapy (at least 10 years). Compliance was defined in two ways for all analyses. Under the definition for compliance 1, patients who missed <30% of all prescribed maintenance visits were classified as complete compliers. Under the definition for compliance 2, patients who never went 2 years without a maintenance visit were classified as complete compliers. Change in clinical variables was dichotomized into reduction in plaque index versus no reduction, reduction in bleeding on probing versus no reduction, reduction in the percentage of periodontal pockets>3 mm versus no reduction, no increase in decayed, missing, or filled teeth (DMFT) versus increase, and no tooth loss versus tooth loss. The effects of both definitions of compliance were then evaluated in a series of multiple logistic regression models with adjustment for potential confounders. RESULTS: The analysis of the dichotomous change in clinical parameters over time revealed that complete compliers tended to show reduction in bleeding on probing and reduction in plaque index compared to erratic compliers for both definitions of compliance. In contrast, complete compliers under compliance 2 were less likely to have a reduction in the percentage of periodontal pockets >3 mm compared to erratic compliers, whereas complete compliers under compliance 1 had about the same likelihood of demonstrating a reduction in periodontal pockets compared to erratic compliers under this classification scheme. Under both definitions for compliance, complete compliers were more likely to exhibit tooth loss than erratic compliers, with the greatest tooth loss exhibited by complete compliers under the definition for compliance 1. CONCLUSIONS: Based on these results, complete compliers under both definitions tended to show a reduction in plaque and bleeding on probing over time. However, change in periodontal pockets and DMFT over time varied according to the definition of compliance that was used. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effects of CPP method on the crystallinity of apatite powder and on the acid resistance of bovine enamel. Crystallinity degrees of apatite powder before and after CPP treatment were measured by powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Polished bovine enamel specimens treated with CPP method or NaF were immersed in a lactic acid solution for up to five days. The demineralized depth of enamel was measured with a surface roughness analyzer. XRD peaks became sharper after the CPP treatment, indicating an increased crystallinity of the apatite powder. The demineralized depth of bovine enamel treated with CPP method was shallower than that of enamel treated with NaF. Results of this study revealed that the CPP method increased the crystallinity of apatite powder and the acid resistance of enamel. Therefore, the CPP method would be useful not only for treating dentin hypersensitivity, but also for the prevention of dental caries. 相似文献
