Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in lung cancer?   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori infection is a world-wide common disease and leads to many gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses. It is suggested that one of these respiratory illnesses is lung cancer. METHODS: Forty-three patients with non-small cell lung cancer and 28 control subjects have been included to this study. H. pylori status of the patients and controls was determined by immunoblot for the detection of IgG (RIDA Blot Helicobacter). All subjects were examined to evaluate the presence of VacA and CagA gene. RESULTS: Seropositivity of anti H. pylori IgG was significantly higher in cancer patients than in control groups, 40 (93%) and 12 (42%), respectively (P<0.01). Although both VacA and CagA seropositivity was high in lung cancer patients, only VacA positivity was statistically significant when compared with control subjects, 35 (81%) and 11 (42%), respectively (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: H. pylori infection may be associated with development of lung cancer.  相似文献

ContextOpioid switching has been found to improve opioid responsiveness in different conditions. However, data on opioid switching performed at home are almost nonexistent, despite the fact that most patients are followed at home.ObjectivesThe aim of this retrospective survey was to determine frequency, indications, usefulness, and safety of opioid switching when treating advanced cancer-related pain in patients followed at home.MethodsA retrospective review of data from patients with advanced cancer followed at home by three home care teams for a period of two years was performed. Patients who had their opioids switched were selected. Reasons for switching opioid doses and routes of administration and outcomes were collected.ResultsTwo hundred one (17%) of 1141 patients receiving “strong” opioids were switched. The mean Karnofsky Performance Status score was 35.6, and the median survival was 30 days. The most frequent reason to switch was for convenience, and the most frequent switch was to parenteral morphine. In most patients, a better analgesic response was observed. Patients who were switched to parenteral morphine had a shorter survival in comparison with other opioid sequences (P < 0.0005). After switching, opioid doses were increased by 23% and 41%, after a week and at time of death, respectively.ConclusionOpioid switching was useful for most patients in the home environment, at least in less complex circumstances, when done by experienced home care teams. Prospective studies are needed to provide information about the decision to admit to hospital for this purpose and the predictive factors that may relatively contraindicate transportation to a facility in severely ill patients.  相似文献

The in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the essential oil and methanol extracts of Achillea millefolium subsp. millefolium Afan. (Asteraceae) were investigated. GC-MS analysis of the essential oil resulted in the identification of 36 compounds constituting 90.8% of the total oil. Eucalyptol, camphor, alpha-terpineol, beta-pinene, and borneol were the principal components comprising 60.7% of the oil. The oil strongly reduced the diphenylpicrylhydrazyl radical (IC(50)=1.56 micro g/ml) and exhibited hydroxyl radical scavenging effect in the Fe(3+)-EDTA-H(2)O(2) deoxyribose system (IC(50)=2.7 micro g/ml). It also inhibited the nonenzymatic lipid peroxidation of rat liver homogenate (IC(50)=13.5 micro g/ml). The polar phase of the extract showed antioxidant activity. The oil showed antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Clostridium perfringens, Candida albicans, Mycobacterium smegmatis, Acinetobacter lwoffii and Candida krusei while water-insoluble parts of the methanolic extracts exhibited slight or no activity. This study confirms that the essential oil of Achillea millefolium possesses antioxidant and antimicrobial properties in vitro.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the prevalence of social phobia and its relation to body image and self-esteem. METHOD: Study participants were 1003 students recruited from Cumhuriyet University as a randomized sample. Subjects were administered the Diagnostic Interview Schedule-III-Revised (DIS-III-R) Social Phobia Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ). We analyzed the data, using Fisher's exact chi-square test. RESULTS: Lifetime prevalence of social phobia among university students was 9.6% and past-year prevalence was 7.9%. Self-esteem was lower (P < 0.05) among those with social phobia than among those without social phobia. Students with social phobia had lower scores on the MBSRQ than did those without social phobia (P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The results show that persons with social phobia have lower self-esteem and more distorted body image than do those without social phobia.  相似文献

The effects of ciprofloxacin, cefodizime, rifampicine, doxycycline and cefodizime + rifampicine combination on polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) functions (phagocytosis and intracellular killing activity) were investigated in vitro in elderly patients and compared with those of healthy young volunteers before and after zinc supplementation. PMNs of 13 elderly hypertensive patients and 10 healthy young volunteers were isolated by Ficoll-Hypaque gradient centrifugation method from venous blood with EDTA. The subjects were given 22 mg/daily/oral zinc supplementation for 1 month. Serum zinc levels before and after supplementation were measured by flame atomic absorbtion spectrophotometer and the effects of each drug on PMN functions at therapeutic concentrations were investigated. Ciprofloxacin significantly increased the PMN's phagocytic activity of elderly patients (p = 0.002) before zinc supplementation and significantly increased both PMN functions of elderly patients (p = 0.002) after zinc supplementation. The same antibiotic significantly increased both PMN functions of healthy young volunteers (p = 0.005 and p<0.05, respectively) before and after zinc supplementation when compared with the control (drug-free). Cefodizime significantly increased the PMN's phagocytic activity of elderly patients (p = 0.003, p = 0.002) before and after zinc supplementation when compared with the control (drug-free). It also significantly increased both PMN functions of healthy young volunteers (p = 0.005 and p<0.05, respectively) before and after zinc supplementation when compared with the control (drug-free). Doxycycline significantly increased PMN's intracellular killing activity of healthy young volunteers before zinc supplementation (p<0.05) when compared with the control (drug-free) values. Rifampicine significantly decreased PMN's phagocytic activity of elderly patients (p<0.05) after zinc supplementation. Cefodizime+rifampicine combination significantly increased PMN's phagocytic activity at therapeutic concentrations of healthy young volunteers (p = 0.005) before zinc supplementation and PMN's phagocytic activity of elderly patients (p<0.05) after zinc supplementation when compared with the control (drug-free). Consequently, in the present study from the antibiotics ciprofloxacin, cefodizime and cefodizime + rifampicine combination, which are accepted as biological response modifiers have demonstrated stimulatory effects by significantly increasing polymorphonuclear leucocyte functions (phagocytosis and/or intracellular killing activity) of elderly patients and healthy young volunteers in vitro before and after zinc supplementation. Additionally zinc supplementation has more immunostimulatory effects on PMN functions of healthy young volunteers than elderly patients.  相似文献
