Assessment of 5'-Nuc activity in 86 patients with diffuse hepatic diseases with and without cholestasis, mechanical jaundice of varying origins, and 20 donors has demonstrated the sensitivity of this test. High 5'-Nuc activity was seen in cases of chronic hepatic lesions with cholestasis and mechanical jaundice due to cancer of the prostatic head. A moderate 5'-Nuc rise was seen in casts of choledocholithiasis and active cirrhosis without cholestasis. Different correlations seen in the examined groups, in comparison to other cholestatic parameters, make it possible to use serum 5'-Nuc determination as an independent test. 相似文献

Cholesterol esterase, a pancreatic enzyme, activity has been measured in the duodenal contents of patients with chronic pancreatitis by fluorometry with the use of o-coumaric acid, a cholesteryl ether substrate, manufactured in this country. The measurements have revealed a significant difference in the values of the enzyme secretion debit after pancreozymin-secretin stimulation of the pancreas in chronic pancreatitis patients and in the controls. Hypo- and hypersecretion of cholesterolesterase have been revealed in the patients. The disease severity had a most marked effect on the hyposecretion degree. These data evidence a high value of cholesterolesterase measurements for the assessment of the pancreatic exosecretion: such tests may help detect the early stages of exosecretory disturbances, assess the disease severity and progress. 相似文献

An epidemic of icteric hepatitis in 1942 affected approximately 50,000 U.S. Army personnel. This outbreak was linked to specific lots of yellow-fever vaccine stabilized with human serum. To identify the responsible virus and the consequences of the epidemic, during 1985 we interviewed and serologically screened 597 veterans who had been in the army in 1942. These subjects were selected from three groups. Group I consisted of patients who had received the implicated vaccine and had jaundice; Group II had received the implicated vaccine but remained well; Group III had received a new, serum-free vaccine, with no subsequent jaundice. Ninety-seven percent of Group I, 76 percent of Group II, and 13 percent of Group III were positive for antibodies to hepatitis B virus. Only one subject had hepatitis B surface antigen, for a carrier rate of 0.26 percent among recipients of the implicated vaccine. The prevalence of hepatitis A antibody was similar in all three groups, and no subject had antibody to hepatitis delta virus. We conclude that hepatitis B caused the outbreak, that about 330,000 persons may have been infected, that the hepatitis B virus carrier state was a rare consequence, and that the outbreak induced hepatitis B antibodies that appear to persist for life. 相似文献

Summary The authors studied the changes in the arterial blood pressure and respiration occurring on perfusion of the vessels of the rabbit ear, and of the small intestine and carotid sinus in cat and rabbit with acetylcholine and adrenalin solutions. Administration of cadmium chloride and sodium fluoride has markedly reduced the time of adaptation of these reflexes. The reflex reaction after its adaptation was restored, in a number of cases, by the addition of cysteine and adenosine triphosphate to the perfusate. This effect of cysteine was more pronounced after the adaptation of the reflexes to acetylcholine. The changes occurring in various metabolic links in the receptors during reflex adaptation are discussed.Presented by Academician V. N. Investigations using Drosophila melanogaster have shown that the circadian clock gene period can influence behavioral responses to cocaine, and the mouse homologues, mPer1 and mPer2, modulate cocaine sensitization and reward. In the present study, we applied DNAzyme targeting mPer1 to interfere the expression of mPer1 in CNS in mice and studied the role of mPer1 on morphine dependence. We found that the DNAzyme could attenuate the expression of mPer1 in CNS in mice. Mice treated with DNAzyme and morphine synchronously did not show preference to the morphine-trained side, whereas the control group did. In contrast, mice treated with DNAzyme after morphine showed preference to the morphine-trained side as well as the control group did. These results indicate that drug dependence seems to be influenced at least partially by mPer1, but mPer1 cannot affect morphine dependence that has been formed. 相似文献

Lattice constants (LCs) of all possible 96 apatite compounds, A(5)(BO(4))(3)C, constituted by A[double bond]Ba(2+), Ca(2+), Cd(2+), Pb(2+), Sr(2+), Mn(2+); B[double bond]As(5+), Cr(5+), P(5+), V(5+); and C[double bond]F(1-), Cl(1-), Br(1-), OH(1-), are predicted from their elemental ionic radii, using pattern recognition (PR) and artificial neural networks (ANN) techniques. In particular, by a PR study it is demonstrated that ionic radii predominantly govern the LCs of apatites. Furthermore, by using ANN techniques, prediction models of LCs a and c are developed, which reproduce well the measured LCs (R(2)=0.98). All the literature reported on 30 pure and 22 mixed apatite compounds are collected and used in the present work. LCs of all possible 66 new apatites (assuming they exist) are estimated by the developed ANN models. These proposed new apatites may be of interest to biomedical research especially in the design of new apatite biomaterials for bone remodeling. Antimicrobial susceptibility and frequency of occurrence of clinical blood isolates in Sfax-Tunisia (1993-1998). The choice of antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of bacteremia is often empirical and based on the knowledge of susceptibility profiles of the most common bacteria causing such infections. This study determines the bacterial etiology of bacteremic episodes and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns recorded at a teaching hospital, from January 1993 to December 1998. We collected 2979 strains responsible for bacteremia. Gram negative bacteria were predominant (60%). The organisms recovered most frequently were Staphylococcus aureus (18.9%), Escherichia coli (14.7%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (14%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (7.6%). The incidence of resistance to methicillin were 17.4% for Staphylococcus aureus and 26.8% for coagulase negative Staphylococcus. No resistance to glycopeptides was observed among the enterococci and staphylococci studied. 27.7% of enterobacteriaceae were resistant to third generation cephalosporins. Imipenem was the most active agent against gram negative bacteria. To carry out a surveillance of bacteremic episodes occurring at every hospital, it is necessary to provide valuable information which should be the basis for effective empiric therapy. 相似文献

Huntington's disease (HD) is a dominant disorder characterized by premature and progressive neurodegeneration. In order to generate an accurate model of the disease, we introduced an HD-like mutation (an extended stretch of 72-80 CAG repeats) into the endogenous mouse Hdh gene. Analysis of the mutation in vivo reveals significant levels of germline instability, with expansions, contractions and sex-of-origin effects in evidence. Mice expressing full-length mutant protein display abnormal social behaviour in the absence of acute neurodegeneration. Given that psychiatric changes, including irritability and aggression, are common findings in HD patients, our data are consistent with the hypothesis that some clinical features of HD may be caused by pathological processes that precede gross neuronal cell death. This implies that effective treatment of HD may require an understanding and amelioration of these dysfunctional processes, rather than simply preventing the premature death of neurons in the brain. These mice should facilitate the investigation of the molecular mechanisms that underpin the pathway from genotype to phenotype in HD. 相似文献
