The biological properties of a titanium (Ti) implant depend on its surface oxide film. The aims of the present study were to increase the specific surface oxide area on Ti using a porous structure and to study the relationship between the amount of apatite coating in simulated body fluid (SBF) and the actual surface area on titanium powders. Ti powders of 110 microm average diameter were sintered by spark plasma sintering. The sintered compacts had a porosity of 28%, a compressive elastic modulus of 7.9 GPa and an ultimate strength of 112 MPa. The compressive strength of the compacts was increased to 588 MPa by subsequent annealing in a vacuum furnace at 1000 degrees C for 24 h. The sintered compacts were treated with aqueous NaOH solution and subsequently heated at 600 degrees C. The pretreated compacts showed apatite crystal precipitation in SBF. The amounts of precipitates through the compacts were compared with those of the Ti plate substrates subjected to the same chemical pretreatment. It was confirmed that the amounts of precipitates through the compacts were more than one hundred times higher than those on the Ti plates. It was concluded that the metal porous compacts developed may be used as functional materials for immobilizing functional proteins and/or drugs, because the precipitated apatite can adsorbed these substances.  相似文献

China is geographically located in the east of Asia and its population exceeds 1.3 billion. An understanding of dental education in China is thus of interest. However, as there is little published information on this topic, this paper provides information about China regarding its dental history, dental school system including curriculum and dental licensure. High school graduates take a nationwide entrance examination to apply for dental school, of which there are more than 50 in China. A five year dental education leads to the BDS degree. Dental school graduates must then pass the nationwide licensure examination to practise dentistry. Currently, there are not adequate numbers of dentists to provide the necessary oral health care for people living outside metropolitan areas.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) in oral air are the only type of gases correlated with the strength of oral malodor. We developed a compact and simple gas chromatograph (GC) equipped with a newly invented indium oxide semiconductor gas sensor (SCS) for measuring the concentrations of VSCs in mouth air. We have assessed the correlation between measurements with a GC-SCS and those with a regular GC. METHODS: Oral air samples from randomly selected volunteers were analyzed with both a GC-SCS and a GC with a flame photometric detector (FPD), which is specific to VSCs, and GC-SCS measurements were compared to those obtained by GC-FPD. Subsequently, oral air samples before and after mouthrinsing with 5% ethanol mouthwash were analyzed to determine the effect of ethanol on VSC measurements by GC-SCS. RESULTS: There were strong correlations between VSC concentrations determined using these two gas chromatography methods (hydrogen sulfide, R=0.821, P<0.0001; methyl mercaptan, R=0.870, P<0.0001; and dimethyl sulfide, R=0.770, P<0.0001). Although GC-SCS can differentiate ethanol and VSCs in oral air samples after mouthrinsing, GC-SCS measurements demonstrated higher values than those obtained by GC-FPD; however, this discrepancy improved over time due to the reduced effect of ethanol. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that GC-SCS may be useful for the diagnosis of halitosis.  相似文献

The success of percutaneous intervention for chronic total occlusion depends mainly on crossing the lesion with a wire. This report deals with the principles and the technical tips of intravascular ultrasound-guided wiring for chronic total occlusion, which can be divided into two trategies.The first is "identification of the site of entry." When the abrupt type chronic total occlusion with a side branch is treated, it is possible to identify the occlusion and the entry point by pulling back the intravascular ultrasound catheter from the distal part of the side branch.The second is "returning to the true lumen after entering a false lumen." If hematoma is caused by manipulating a wire in the false lumen that impairs visualization of the distal true lumen, an intravascular ultrasound catheter can be advanced into the false lumen.An attempt to make a successful re-entry into the true lumen can be achieved under intravascular ultrasound guidance.  相似文献

Phosphate (Pi) plays a critical role in the maintenance of mineralized tissues and signaling in the intracellular environment. Although extracellular phosphate concentration is maintained at fixed levels, physiological machineries involved in phosphate homeostasis in bone, which is the largest phosphate storage site, have not yet been fully elucidated. Here we examined the role of osteopontin (OPN) in a high-Pi diet load-induced bone loss. A high-Pi diet significantly reduced bone mineral density as well as bone mass in wild type. In contrast, OPN deficiency totally prevented reduction in bone mineral density and bone mass. Analyses of bone turnover-related components revealed that bone formation parameters (bone formation rate and mineral apposition rate) were enhanced by high-Pi diet load similarly in wild-type and OPN-deficient mice. In sharp contrast, bone resorption parameters (osteoclast number and osteoclast surface) were enhanced by high-Pi diet load in wild type but not at all in OPN-deficient mice. Bone marrow cell cultures revealed no major effects of OPN deficiency on high-Pi diet modulation of mineralized nodule formation in culture. On the other hand, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated cell development in cultures were enhanced by high-Pi diet load in wild-type cells, but such effects of high Pi-diet were totally abolished in the absence of OPN. These data indicated that OPN is needed for osteoclastic activity to resorb bone on high phosphate loading.  相似文献

Somatosensory-evoked potentials (SEPs) are attenuated by movement. This phenomenon of 'gating' reflects sensorimotor integration for motor control. The frontal N30 component after median nerve stimulation was shown to be reduced in amplitude prior to hand movement. To investigate the mechanism of this sensory gating, we recorded median SEPs immediately before and after application of monophasic very low-frequency (0.2 Hz) repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of 250 stimuli over motor cortex (MC), premotor cortex (PMC), or supplementary motor area (SMA) in 9 healthy volunteers. The stimulus intensity for MC or PMC was set 85% of the resting motor threshold for the hand muscle, and that for SMA was at the active motor threshold for the leg muscle. SEPs showed significant increases in amplitudes of the frontal N30 component after PMC stimulation, but not after SMA or MC stimulation. Low-frequency (1 Hz) biphasic stimulation over PMC showed no significant N30 changes in 6 out of 9 subjects tested, indicating the effect being specific for 0.2 Hz monophasic stimulation. To examine the functional anatomy of the N30 change, single photon emission computed tomography was performed immediately before and after monophasic 0.2 Hz rTMS over PMC in all the 9 subjects. Regional cerebral blood flow showed significant increases mainly in PMC and prefrontal cortex, indicating the involvement of these cortical areas in sensory input gating for motor control.  相似文献

We propose a novel algorithm for voxel-by-voxel compartment model analysis based on a maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm. Voxel-by-voxel compartment model analysis can derive functional images of living tissues, but it suffers from high noise statistics in voxel-based PET data and extended calculation times. We initially set up a feature space of the target radiopharmaceutical composed of a measured plasma time activity curve and a set of compartment model parameters, and measured the noise distribution of the PET data. The dynamic PET data were projected onto the feature space, and then clustered using the Mahalanobis distance. Our method was validated using simulation studies, and compared with ROI-based ordinary kinetic analysis for FDG. The parametric images exhibited an acceptable linear relation with the simulations and the ROI-based results, and the calculation time took about 10 min. We therefore concluded that our proposed MAP-based algorithm is practical.  相似文献

Natural killer T (NKT) cells recognize glycosphingolipids presented by CD1d molecules and have been linked to defense against microbial infections. Previously defined foreign glycosphingolipids recognized by NKT cells are uniquely found in nonpathogenic sphingomonas bacteria. Here we show that mouse and human NKT cells also recognized glycolipids, specifically a diacylglycerol, from Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease. The B. burgdorferi-derived, glycolipid-induced NKT cell proliferation and cytokine production and the antigenic potency of this glycolipid was dependent on acyl chain length and saturation. These data indicate that NKT cells recognize categories of glycolipids beyond those in sphingomonas and suggest that NKT cell responses driven by T cell receptor-mediated glycolipid recognition may provide protection against diverse pathogens.  相似文献
