In order to increase the chemical stability of polybenzimidazole (PBI) membrane against the highly oxidizing environment of a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB), PBI/Nafion hybrid membrane was developed by spray coating a Nafion ionomer onto one surface of the PBI membrane. The acid–base interaction between the sulfonic acid of the Nafion and the benzimidazole of the PBI created a stable interfacial adhesion between the Nafion layer and the PBI layer. The hybrid membrane showed an area resistance of 0.269 Ω cm2 and a very low vanadium permeability of 1.95 × 10−9 cm2 min−1. The Nafion layer protected the PBI from chemical degradation under accelerated oxidizing conditions of 1 M VO2+/5 M H2SO4, and this was subsequently examined in spectroscopic analysis. In the VRFB single cell performance test, the cell with the hybrid membrane showed better energy efficiency than the Nafion cell with 92.66% at 40 mA cm−2 and 78.1% at 100 mA cm−2 with no delamination observed between the Nafion layer and the PBI layer after the test was completed.

Silver sulfide nanoparticles (Ag2S NPs) are currently being explored as infrared active nanomaterials that can provide environmentally stable alternatives to heavy metals such as lead. In this paper, we describe the novel synthesis of Ag2S NPs by using a sonochemistry method and the fabrication of photodetector devices through the integration of Ag2S NPs atop a graphene sheet. We have also synthesized Li-doped Ag2S NPs that exhibited a significantly enhanced photodetector sensitivity via their enhanced absorption ability in the UV-NIR region. First-principles calculations based on a density functional theory formalism indicated that Li-doping produced a dramatic enhancement of NIR photoluminescence of the Ag2S NPs. Finally, high-performance photodetectors based on CVD graphene and Ag2S NPs were demonstrated and investigated; the hybrid photodetectors based on Ag2S NPs and Li-doped Ag2S NPs exhibited a photoresponse of 2723.2 and 4146.0 A W−1 respectively under a light exposure of 0.89 mW cm−2 at 550 nm. Our novel approach represents a promising and effective method for the synthesis of eco-friendly semiconducting NPs for photoelectric devices.

Here, we evaluate the efficacy of the Clo-Sur PAD nonwoven hydrophilic wound dressing (HWD) on hemostasis in an arterial-access site after transradial percutaneous coronary angiography compared with the RadiStop compression device (CD). Eighty patients who had undergone transradial coronary angiography with or without intravascular ultrasound were randomly assigned to the HWD or CD group. The time required to achieve hemostasis was measured, and the incidence of vascular complications was assessed. No significant differences in clinical and procedural characteristics were observed between the HWD group (n = 40) and the CD group (n = 40). A significant reduction in the time required to achieve hemostasis (58.7 +/- 32.6 minutes versus 131.3 +/- 59.1 minutes; p < 0.001) was associated with the use of HWD. The incidence of vascular complications was similar in both groups (5% for HWD versus 2.5% for CD; p = 0.500). No major complications, such as large hematoma or acute radial occlusion, occurred in the HWD group. In conclusion, HWD represents a safe alternative to the compression method. Hemostasis can be achieved more quickly using HWD, with no increase in access site complications, as compared to CD.  相似文献

In a canine model of acute occlusion of the left anterior descending artery (LAD), left ventriculography was performed before and immediately after occlusion and also one and three weeks later. Regional left ventricular function was evaluated by the centreline method. Global and regional left ventricular function were significantly depressed immediately after occlusion and showed no significant recovery after one and three weeks, except for a decrease in the paradoxical motion of the LAD territory, which was probably due to stiffening of the infarct area.  相似文献

To investigate the role of lactulose in the treatment of cirrhotic patients with subclinical hepatic encephalopathy (SHE), 40 cirrhotic patients, 33 males and 7 females, were included in the study. The diagnosis of SHE was made by quantitative psychometric tests including the number connection test (NCT), figure connection test (FCT) parts A and B, and two performance subtests of Wechsler adult intelligence scale, ie, picture completion (PC) and block design (BD) tests. SHE was diagnosed in 26 (65%) of 40 patients. Of these 26 patients, 14 patients were randomized to treatment group (lactulose 30–60 ml/day for three months, SHE-L) and 12 patients to no treatment group (no lactulose, SHE-NL). Psychometric tests were repeated in all patients in both groups and in six patients with no SHE (group NSHE, N = 14) after three months. The mean scores and number of the abnormal psychometric tests at entry were significantly higher in patients in groups SHE-L and SHE-NL than in patients in group NSHE; however, there was no significant difference between SHE-L and SHE-NL. The mean number of the abnormal psychometric tests decreased in patients in group SHE-L after three months of treatment with lactulose (2.9 ± 0.9 vs 0.8 ± 1.2; P = 0.004); however, there was no change in patients in group SHE-NL after three months (3.7 ± 1.5 vs 3.5 ± 1.3; P = NS). While SHE improved in 8 of 10 patients in group SHE-L, none of the patients in group SHE-NL improved after three months of follow-up (P < 0.001). Two patients in group SHE-NL also developed overt encephalopathy during the study period. We conclude that lactulose treatment in cirrhotic patients with SHE is effective.  相似文献

To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity for patients with hepatic oligometastases, receiving hypofractionated radiotherapy with Tomotherapy to the liver. A total of 42 patients with 54 hepatic lesions, who had been treated from 2007 to 2011 at two institutions, were retrospectively reviewed for this study. All the patients received radical resections of the primary tumor, and had been presented with one to two hepatic lesions. The radiation dose of 40–75 Gy in 10–20 fractions (median, 50 Gy in 10 fractions) was delivered for the planning target volume. At a median follow-up time of 15 months, 1- and 2-year local control (LC) rates were 59.9 and 49.0 %, respectively. The 1- and 2-year overall survival (OS) rates were 60.0 and 44.0 %, respectively. Maximal tumor diameter of <3 cm and biologically effective dose (BED) of ≥100 Gyα/β=10 were significantly associated with higher LC and OS. Primary colorectal cancer tended to be associated with higher LC (P = 0.075), and was significantly associated with higher OS (P = 0.037). 12 (28.6 %) of the 42 patients had grade 1–2 toxicities, and grade 3 or higher toxicity did not occur. Hypofractionated radiotherapy with Tomotherapy was safe for patients with hepatic oligometastases. The maximal tumor diameter of <3 cm and BED of ≥100 Gyα/β=10 were significant prognostic factors for higher local control and survival, and primary colorectal cancer patients had statistically higher overall survival than the others.  相似文献

Tonic inhibition mediated by persistent activation of γ-aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) receptors by ambient GABA plays a crucial role in the regulation of network excitability and neuronal signal processing. Varying degrees in the strength of tonic inhibition were detected across different cell types throughout the brain. Since sensory information flows through cortical layers in a specific order, the characteristics of tonic inhibition in different cortical layers are of interest. Therefore, we examined the properties of tonic inhibition in pyramidal neurons (PyNs) throughout the rat visual cortex. Layer 2/3 PyNs and burst-spiking PyNs in layers 5 and 6 showed prominent tonic GABAA currents. Tonic GABAA currents in layer 4 star PyNs and regular-spiking PyNs in layers 5 and 6 were much weaker. The magnitude of tonic currents correlated well with the inhibition of spike generation. The amplitude of tonic GABAA currents measured with bicuculline and gabazine, the two different GABAA receptor blockers, did not differ. The differences in the expression levels of extrasynaptic GABAA receptors might be the major contributor to the differences in tonic GABAA currents among cell types. Furthermore, α5 subunits might contribute significantly to tonic currents in infragranular burst-spiking PyNs, especially in layer 5. These results suggest that ambient GABA might exert differential effects on the neuronal integration in a layer- and cell-type-specific manner and thus contribute to the processing of sensory properties by selectively tuning the signals flowing through the visual cortex.  相似文献
