Primary testicular lymphoma: experience with 13 cases and literature review

To summarize the clinicopathological features, therapeutic regimens, and outcomes for patients with primary testicular lymphoma (PTL), we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 13 patients diagnosed with PTL between 2001 and 2012 at our hospital. Average age at diagnosis was 62.2 ± 13.9 years, and all patients presented with painless testicular swelling. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the dominant histotype (69.2 %). All 13 patients were treated with inguinal orchiectomy and received chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Complete follow-up data were available for 10 patients with an average follow-up duration of 28.4 ± 30.9 months. Seven patients were evaluated as Ann Arbor stage I or II, and three as stage III or IV. Eight patients were found to have hypoechogenic and hypervascular signals in the testis on ultrasound examination. Complete remission was achieved in six patients, and four patients who were still undergoing chemotherapy during the last follow-up showed no signs of relapse. Of the 10 patients with complete follow-up records, three had relapses, which occurred in the CNS, epiglottis, and the nasal cavity. Time to relapse in these cases was 2, 7, and 11 months, respectively (3/10). The mean progression-free survival was 22.57 months (range 1.1–101.9 months).     

RANKL/OPG在高原低氧条件下兔牙周炎发病机制中的作用

目的 研究模拟高原低氧条件下兔牙周炎的病理改变以及与破骨细胞相关的核因子κB受体活化子配体( receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand,RANKL)、骨保护素(osteoprotegenn,OPG)的相关性.方法 40只家兔完全随机分成4组:平原实验组、平原对照组、高原实验组、高原对照组,每组各10只.通过钢丝结扎切牙方法建立家兔牙周炎模型,动物于分组饲养8周后处死,制作牙周组织石蜡切片,HE染色观察牙周组织病理变化、破骨细胞的表达,荧光免疫组化检测牙周组织中RANKL、OPG的表达.免疫荧光组化采用激光扫描共聚焦显微镜对实验组与对照组RANKL、OPG进行半定量分析,并比较其差异.结果 高原实验组与平原实验组、高原对照组和平原对照组RANKL灰度值分别为(1.799±0.036)、(1.519±0.061)、(1.242 ±0.078)、(0.963±0.098),差异有统计学意义(P＜0.05),与高原对照组比较,高原实验组OPG表达降低无统计学意义.高原实验组RANKL与牙周指数呈正相关(P＜0.01).结论 高原低氧条件下可能通过改变破骨细胞的RANKL/OPG调节途径促进牙周炎的发生、发展.

文章以四川大学华西医院科研基地为例，分析了科研基地的既有设施设备用能设计指标与当前实际环境需求的差异，提出了对公共区域照明、围墙灯、绿地照明以及中央空调系统末端等方面改进的相应措施，并分析了实施效果。     

Effects of Fraction Obtained From Korean Corni Fructus Extracts Causing Anti-Proliferation and p53-Dependent Apoptosis in A549 Lung Cancer Cells

Corni Fructus has traditionally been used as herbal medicine for the treatment of tuberculosis, asthma, hepatitis, and chronic nephritis in Korea, Japan, and China. This research was carried out to evaluate the proliferative-inhibitory effect of CF extracts against cancer cells and to identify the new pro-substance from medicinal plants. Among these herbal extracts extracted from KCF (Korean Corni Fructus), JCF (Japanese Corni Fructus) and CCF (Chinese Corni Fructus), KCF extracts strongly induced anti-proliferation of cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner compared with other extracts. Moreover, after treatment with CM/F3 (fraction 3 obtained from KCF extracts) for 24 h, A549 cells were evaluated by several indicators such as cell viability, LDH release, DNA fragmentation, nuclear condensation, and apoptotic proteins in vitro. CM/F3 showed the tumor-selective growth inhibitory activity in a dose- and time-dependent manner in A549 cells. Consistently, CM/F3 effectively induced the activation of bax, cytochrome-c, caspase-3, -8, -9, p53, and p21 causing apoptosis, and caused the suppression of Cdk2, pRb, and E2F1 related to cell arrest in A549 cells. These results demonstrate that CM/F3 caused not only anti-proliferation but also cell death involving cell arrest through interaction between apoptotic proteins and the upregulation of p53 in A549 cells.     

Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial coumarins from the stems of Eurya chinensis

Two new coumarins, named (±)-euryacoumarin A (1) and 6-demethylobtusinin (2), and one new natural coumarin, named euryacoumarin B (3), along with two known compounds, scopoletin (4) and obtusinol (5), were isolated from the stems of Eurya chinensis. Their structures were elucidated by means of extensive spectroscopic methods and comparison with data reported in the literatures. Compound 1 exhibited significant inhibition of LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 cells with IC₅₀ value of 35.64 ± 1.73 μM, and showed marginal antibacterial activities against Bacillus subtilis and B. cereus with MIC values of 50.59 ± 2.12 and 35.42 ± 0.96 μM, respectively.
