Objective: To describe the development and reproducibility of a self‐report instrument, for use with children in years 4–6, to identify sources of food eaten during the day, and type and frequency of food purchases at school. Design: Tool development stages included formulation of content and format, expert review, piloting and a test–retest study. Subjects/setting: The pilot study included school students (n = 20) in years 4 and 5 (seven girls, mean age 9.7 ± 0.7 years) attending an Australian public primary school. The test–retest study was performed in a large metropolitan public primary school (n = 245 children, 52% female, mean age 10.7 ± 0.91 years) including children from years 4 (n = 88), 5 (n = 84) and 6 (n = 73). Statistical analysis: A Kappa statistic was used to assess level of agreement between the two time periods separated by 1 week. The results were analysed using SAS version 8.2 with each question compared at time 1 and 2. Results: The mean kappa was 0.529 using pairings from 17 questions. Values ranged from 0.18 to 0.71 (CI 0.46–0.60). Conclusions and applications: The School Eating Habits and Lifestyle Survey has been developed and pilot‐tested in primary school‐aged children and shown to have moderate stability over time. The results show that each phase of development, particularly those spent in consultation and testing, led to progressive improvement of this instrument. This process improved the quality of information produced and gave insights to self‐report of dietary intake and behaviours among children. 相似文献

The planar fibrous connective tissues of the body are composed of a dense extracellular network of collagen and elastin fibers
embedded in a ground matrix, and thus can be thought of as biocomposites. Thus, the quantification of fiber architecture is
an important step in developing an understanding of the mechanics of planar tissues in health and disease. We have used small
angle light scattering (SALS) to map the gross fiber orientation of several soft membrane connective tissues. However, the
device and analysis methods used in these studies required extensive manual intervention and were unsuitable for largescale
fiber architectural mapping studies. We have developed an improved SALS device that allows for rapid data acquisition, automated
high spatial resolution specimen positioning, and new analysis methods suitable for large-scale mapping studies. Extensive
validation experiments revealed that the SALS device can accurately measure fiber orientation for up to a tissue thickness
of at least 500 μm to an angular resolution of∼1o and a spatial resolution of±254 μm. To demonstrate the new device’s capabilities, structural measurements from porcine aortic
valve leaflets are presented. Results indicate that the new SALS device provides an accurate method for rapid quantification

OBJECTIVE: To measure alterations in SPA1, A2, and D gene expression in various forms of inflammatory chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Sinus mucosal biopsies were performed in patients with allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFS), CRS with nasal polyposis, cystic fibrosis (CF), and controls. SP mRNA was measured with quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Patients with CF (n = 4) showed significantly increased SPA1 (82-fold), SPA2 (100-fold), and SPD (47-fold) mRNA (P < 0.05) when compared with controls (n = 5). Patients with CRS with nasal polyposis (n = 5) also demonstrated elevated SPA1 (27-fold), SPA2 (13-fold), and SPD (13-fold). Patients with AFS (n = 7) had increased SPA1 (5-fold), SPA2 (9-fold), and SPD (17-fold), but were not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: SPA1, A2, and D are upregulated in various forms of CRS, but are significantly elevated in cystic fibrosis CRS. SIGNIFICANCE: Understanding the role of SPs in CRS will help develop novel treatment approaches for sinonasal pathoses. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Positive affect in individuals with a facial movement disorder may promote lip corner movement (zygomaticus major) during smiling. We investigated whether a positive affect marker (orbicularis oculi activity) observed in an initial clinic visit of individuals with facial movement disorder (N = 28) predicted increased lip corner movement at a subsequent visit. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: In this clinical outcomes study, lip corner movement was assessed with the use of automated facial analysis. Asymmetry of movement was compared in individuals who smiled with or without the positive affect marker at an initial clinic visit. RESULTS: The positive affect marker at the initial visit was associated with a reduction in the asymmetry of the lip corner movement at the second visit. CONCLUSION: Positive affect predicts improved facial movement outcomes in patients with facial movement disorders. SIGNIFICANCE: Positive emotion in facial movement patients may be an important factor in recovery of facial movement during therapy. 相似文献

This report documents the outcome of 25 pregnancies with elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein levels on two separate samplings despite normal anatomic appearance of the fetus on a detailed "consultative" sonographic examination. Six of these also had elevated amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein. All fetuses in this series were anatomically normal at time of delivery; one aborted fetus was triploid. Of the 25 pregnancies, 16 had sonographically demonstrable placental hemorrhage, eight retroplacental and eight subchorionic. One had hydropic changes in the placenta associated with triploidy. Of the subgroup of six pregnancies in which both serum and amniotic fluid values were elevated, one had a retroplacental hemorrhage, one had a subchorionic hemorrhage, and one had diffuse hydropic changes in the placenta. A control group of 112 patients with normal alpha-fetoprotein levels yielded four with small (less than 2 cm3) subchorionic hemorrhage. The occurrence rate of placental hemorrhage in women with elevated alpha-fetoprotein and normal fetus was 64%, whereas the control group of patients with normal alpha-fetoprotein had a 3.6% occurrence rate of placental hemorrhage. Sonographically detectable placental abnormalities may be associated with elevated alpha-fetoprotein in serum and/or amniotic fluid samples. Such abnormalities may occur because of fetomaternal admixture associated with placental hemorrhage and/or intraamniotic bleeding resulting from subchorionic hemorrhage. 相似文献
